1. Place signs in pedestrian areas.
2. Affix them using unobtrusive means, make them easily removable.

Those are the rules.
Let's have some ideas for parapolitical subject matter, hanging materials, locations.

I'll go first.
I want to make a 4' x 4' sign of the Coincidence Theorist's Guide to 9/11.
I'm thinking of either having a bunch printed on cardboard and hanging them promiscuously...
Or having a few laminated and placing them carefully in places that are easy to see but not easy to reach.

This sort of activism probably works more efficiently than anything else I've ever tried. Simply running off 100 or so copies of something at a copy store, or making a sign or three (with LEGIBLE BIG BOLD LETTERS), and spending an afternoon or an evening passing them out, gets more done than 10 meetings.

small fact sheets hung on the wal-mart bulletin board, school bulletin boards, at laundromats, senior centers (where I volunteer) and anywhere else that allows public postings.
Great Idea, we could be called "The Organization for Latter Day Tom Paine's"

of the same color and size as the various 'educational institution' posters with mail-in-cards attached, as on the T per example. A bit of a project but good for getting people's attentin w/out their expecting it.

After the revelations of printer identification that came out - just don't print them on a colour printer

Great idea though - what would be the most effective signs? Gotta be short and to the point; gotta grab attention. People won't/don't spend time with something challenging.

But maybe they would, why not give them the chance?
I think short and sweet is good.
But I also think something of moderate length would be good, too.
Especially for the train-ad cards, which is a fantastic idea.

Personally, I'm going to focus on 9/11.
Perhaps a 10 point fact sheet of military exercises?

I don't know that Jeff would want us using his addy here for something like that.

For the bubbles, I like that.

I know what to put in mine: 911 was an INSIDE JOB!!!!!

You know, it's funny, Sheehan is nearly out of the loop as far as I can tell and things were moving right along on the Iraq protests.
We have a group in the UK in Bristol, who amongst other things, issue leaflets in the City centre offering a 3500 dollar ( £2000 ) reward for anyone who can show a pic of a plane hitting the pentagon.

Obviously a Whopper Red Herring as we all know, but of course that isnt the point.

Its about bringing the whole issue into the public arena.

I'll try and find a link to their website.

Keep It Simple Stupid.
if people are going to see these messages in a flash while passing by you need to keep it to one clear message and maybe one URL (easy to remember) to really get your point across.
the same key messages repeated has more impact than many different ones.
Try the same message repeated in different colour/lettertype/size/shape at different locations for maximum impact.
sometimes a (leading) question is more effective than a statement, for some reason a big question mark is attractive on a sign?
(if someone discovers the answer for themselves it is also more readily accepted as a truth)

Just the facts

I think facts would be more effective than leading questions.

making signs and stickers...

As far as making signs, stickers, posters, etc....don't forget tiling if you want to make a huge sign. don't pay money to have some huge banner printed out. you can just use watered down acrylic matte medium as a glue (or even watered down regular old elmers) and tile smaller 8.5 x 11 pages onto a piece of shitty cardboard you got from behind the local grocery store or whatever.

just smooth it out with a paint scraper after you've got it down on your cardboard to get rid of all the air bubbles. also, applying another layer of matte medium, all the way around, front and back, will give some pretty decent weather protection.

another idea is to make a very light weight banner, then tie each end of the banner to 5 or 6 helium filled balloons, take a third line and anchor the whole thing to the ground and you've got a floating sign you can put up in public places.

another idea is to go the opposite route...super tiny stickers (just make 'em on the computer) that you can put near toilet paper dispensers in the restrooms at work, at the mall, Target, Barnes and Noble, etc etc. anywhere, really. trains, toll booths, etc.

just a few ideas.
