whats up with icke? (website down?)

Postby hmm » Sun Oct 23, 2005 1:42 pm

caught this at a iraq war website and wondered what people here thought.
icke's website appears to be down so i am reproducing the whole letter said to be from him

iraqwar.mirror-world.ru/article/67490

"David Icke down and out?
By: stopwar on: 22.10.2005 [12:52 ] (670 reads)

Several days ago, David Icke posted an uncharacteristic message on his website, and the server subsequently went down.

The letter is included below. Is it a fake?

You may say... what does this have to do with Iraq? Well... Quite a lot. Through his website, David has been one of BushnBlair's most outspoken critics, and (when not talking about esoteric conspiracies) an excellent alternative media source for exposing their lies"

the letter:

"MESSAGE TO ALL DAVID ICKE NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIBERS. PLEASE READ

You may have noticed that Davidicke.com is not available at the moment. This is due to an attack on the site that could only be stopped by taking it down and moving to alternative technology. This will be done, at still more cost, by tonight or tomorrow and the site will be accessible again.

It is just the latest in an endless stream of challenges, financial and otherwise, that have to be met to keep the site available for people - for free - and keep the information flowing as an alternative to the mainstream propaganda.

But, you know, I do wonder sometimes, no, increasingly often, why I bother. Every day I am faced with hours of unpaid work and a stream of emails asking me for help. I always try to do what I can, given that there is only one of me. But when I ask for help? Forget it.

The subscription take-up for a paid-for newsletter - I say 'paid for' I mean the price of a single beer a month - has been, how shall I put it?, virtually non-existent. When it was free, wow, yes please. Now it's the price of a pint of beer a month for four newsletters, no thanks.

So if that's what they are considered to be worth - nothing - then why should I spend my time producing them while wondering if my basic bills will be covered at the end of the month and whether Davidicke.com can continue to exist in anything like its present form?

The response has made me reassess all that I have done and am doing because I am up to here with giving out with so little in return. People say they support me? Okay, where is it? I put out an appeal for help with the website and every single response - bar one - was looking to make serious money out of doing it.

How much is it worth not to be microchipped? How much is it worth not to have a uniformed thug knock on the door? How much is it worth to be free?

The next newsletter will go out on Saturday/Sunday and if the take-up is not vastly increased, it will be the last one. And I am certainly not, given this wake-up call, going to spend my hours every day on the website any more if this is how much the information is valued. Why should I? I have a family to look after.

Thanks so much to those few who have responded, it is so much appreciated. But after nearly 20 years of giving out with so little return, enough is enough.

Anyone who wishes to subscribe to the newsletter can do so once the site is back up later today or tomorrow at the latest. Here is the link you will need when it's back up and running:

www.davidicke.com/info.htm

Sorry if I sound pissed off, but then I am.

best wishes,

David"

as i said i get an error message when trying to access icke's site before posting this.
I am not a huge fan of icke's but as he is a important personality in conspiracy circles i take a interest in whats going on with him and found this odd...

I visit Icke's site on my journeys through the internet late at night and it has been down for several days now.

In reading his letter, I have to take issue with the whining about no money or help to work on his website. He is a commercial site selling his books all over it. Commercial sites do not ask for donations and if they are not successful, they close down.

I have two websites and they are not that expensive to maintain. You can get unlimited bandwidth hosting for a few dollars a month, so I don't buy it.

I can tell you, though, that running a message board through ezboard, like this one here can get pricey as heck, they charge by page views and it ain't cheap. If anyone needs donations to stay alive, I'd think it would be places like this one. And that said, I am on my way to make a donation to Jeff to help keep this board open.

info on his website

Postby anotherdrew » Sun Oct 23, 2005 4:53 pm

some info from another place:

Quote:
toddstager (HIDDEN) on Sat Oct 22 14:19:22 2005
I am one of David Ickes Hosting providers. I can tell you he is using a lot of bandwidth on our servers. I had to move his .com site to a cheaper host in Canada so I would not have to gouge him on bandwidth. The reason he is pushing so much data is not from people downloading his videos, it is because he has ahd poor website designers in the past who do not know how to reduce file sizes of any pictures. The designers have made webpages that scroll down for miles, and images that are 300dpi instead of 72 dpi. He had just moved his .com site to a new server,(not mine) and then he got hacked into. The reason he was volnerable is becuase his new website designer wanted to use a crappy PHP news portal script that is full of holes. I don't know what his designer is charging him, but if you have a lot of hits to rou website everyday, you need some technical no how or you are gonna get raked over the coals. As he has time and time again. I wish I had the time to redo his entire website and crush it down to manageable sizes, but I have no time.

Aside from what was just stated, I can assure you David does not make the big bucks from books, videos, and lectures. I had the same opinion as some of you did, but then I realized that there is quite a bit of cost going into his content. I am not saying support him or not support him, what I am saying is the more popular you get, the more costs are involved, and the ratio of income to expense does not stay the same up the latter.
Thanks for your time.
wristease.com

Comment 11 posted by toddstager (HIDDEN) on Sat Oct 22 14:21:38 2005
Please excuse my crappy spelling and typos, I wrote it in a frenzy and did not proof it.

Comment 13 posted by shuffle (HIDDEN) on Sat Oct 22 19:00:46 2005
I went into Warterstones in the UK the other day and was shocked to see virtually EVERY DAvid Icke / Bridge of love book under the sun on the shelves. I can't see how he is not making a fairly decent living out of these alone. He himself admits in ... that his publications sell well in the USA and Canada so where's it all going wrong.

Interesting info on his website host. I'd noticed his site was crap in the way it was laid out and over heavy page sizes etc. How can someone in his position not know a decent designer who'll re-do the site for nothing [or a free book?!] - ?
==
Comment 14 posted by toddstager (HIDDEN) on Sun Oct 23 12:02:28 2005
Believe me he has tried to find a website designer who will do it for free. No takers. The site is bigger than it looks, it is quite a bit of work.

LOL!

"The reason he is pushing so much data is not from people downloading his videos, it is because he has ahd poor website designers in the past who do not know how to reduce file sizes of any pictures. The designers have made webpages that scroll down for miles, and images that are 300dpi instead of 72 dpi."

If this is true, this is absurd. The part about the long pages is true, but the web designers not knowing how to reduce the size of pics sounds totally ridiculous. What kind of webmaster is that?

I learned how to do all of this myself. And I'll admit there is a lot of time involved, but I had to do it because I couldn't afford a web designer in the beginning and I hate the idea of not being able to change my own pages at will.

Webmasters are truly that, masters of your website and if they are incognito you can't do a damn thing with it if you don't know how to do it yourself. No telling how long it will be before you can get them to correct a mistake. I know this because I had one temporarily after my site took off.

Well, I have to say that I do enjoy his site for the news that is on there and maybe I'll subscribe to his newsletters if he's that hard up. There's a program you can buy for like 80.00 that automatically sends out blanket emails like newsletters, complete with graphics and whatever else you want to put on them. You certainly don't need a webmaster to do that or even a website.

Sounds like Icke needs to do some homework so he knows when he's getting ripped off and get rid of the excess baggage glomming onto him for the bucks if this is the case.
