How many here were banned from DU?

How many here were banned from DU? Looks like I fell to the latest purge and a new censorship/lockdown is underway.

I was banned after making only two posts last fall. One post was about MIHOP, the other was critical of the DU censorship. I don't miss DU.

I was there for some time, and generally got along with most everyone. Certain subjects though are being erased, namely, the one you mention (MIHOP).

I'm not sure if they are 'controllers', and Hillary is quite unpopular on that board. VERY UNPOPULAR. While it MAY be that they are controllers -it think it is more a case of self censorship so that they don't 'look bad'. They fall prey to being overly worried about their newly found 'status', ego, and 'credibility'. Damn, its a friggin message board. So now, you can't discuss certain things because they fear the Republofascists or DLCers may call them names for it.

Chickenshits.

I've never been banned at DU, but then I don't post much there anymore, either. I still drop by to check the headlines, for which it's pretty good, and occasionally toss in a comment. But the kind of serious research and thoughful discussions of genuine political alternatives that originally attracted me seem to be gone.

This board and Jeff's blog fulfill some of my posting needs, but I could also use a site that starts from the premise that we don't have to be stuck forever with free-market capitalism and no-longer-very-representative democracy and asks about what might replace them. Does anybody know of such a place?

I was booted after only a few posts...I don't even know what I did wrong....and getting answers from anyone over there is ridiculous. it's not even worth the time, IMO. I haven't been back since I got booted....and that was back during "gannongate".

my other complaint (I know this isn't a "complain about DU" thread, but I had to add this), is the way the boards over there are set up...I really can't stand that format...whatever that's called...where it's actually showing you all of the replys under the original mesage, but you can also click on the title of each reply. can't stand it. I like this format much better....much easier to search for things.

My first post was deleted by a moderator. It dealt aggressively with Katrina and the Government response(lack of). I was pretty straight forward and didn't say anything Tin Hat-ish; about as close as I came to expressing my interpretaion of what I saw as a martial law/genocide lab was refering to Cheny's odd choice of words describing the 'Katrina Exercise'..

That post was gone very quickly. I pitched a fit, got no answer, and haven't bothered posting again.

I'm pretty ambivelant about DU. There's excellent information distributed there, but over-all my impression is it's mainly a venting valve for 'dissidents'..

I wasn't banned there, but got sick of so many people in denial that I just left on my own. Rarely go there now.

BannedfromDU said what I suspect as well:

Quote:
While it MAY be that they are controllers -it think it is more a case of self censorship so that they don't 'look bad'. long time reader before posting in 2004...

they've either tombstoned or run-off the most interesting posters. my faves, at least. ProgressiveIndependent is the cool place now.

i still check the temperature at DU and jump into threads of interest, but i'm not doing DU like i used to.

to me, the worst part of DU...the SCIENCE board! humorless rationalists. no fun at all. no creativity. no reaching. what's the point.

Info warfare, COINTELPRO, all are in play.

Postby Hugh Manatee Wins » Wed Jan 11, 2006 7:22 pm

Disinfo websites and controlling discussions at discussion boards is the new frontline for CIA/GOP/NSA/Pentagon operatives so don't let yourself be discouraged or leave any site that needs advocates for the truth to hold the line against fascists.

Don't give up. This is war, not entertainment. Lives are at stake.

And change your username. It helps the bad guys.

It's like carrying a Scarlet Letter alerting the bad guys to your behavior and looking out for your 'subversive info' if it appears at the sites they patrol.

Obedient Underground

Postby Bismillah » Wed Jan 11, 2006 8:16 pm

I was banned, for protesting sarcastically (but not obscenely) after yet another post of mine about 9/11 had been deleted by - I presume - that buffoon who calls himself "The Magistrate". The place really annoys me. Their attitude to the whole 9/11 issue is cowardly in the extreme, and their treatment of dissent is positively fascistoid.

"So now, you can't discuss certain things because they fear the Republofascists or DLCers may call them names for it. Chickenshits."

Exactly.

But I do admire Jack Riddler, the mysterious poster called Minstrel Boy, and several others, for their ability to hang on in there, fighting the good fight and keeping their tempers without ever kissing ass.

still hanging in there

Postby anotherdrew » Wed Jan 11, 2006 8:37 pm

I've proabbly come fairly close to getting booted a few times, but I guess I've failed to cross 'the line' and am still posting from time to time.

I'm fairly fed up with it though, I _thought_ that _something_ was going to happen, at some point that would look like real organizing, a real venue for action, that could change something. Not just at DU but in America in general. Instead DU's just a place to vent and get my daily dose of outrage. and America slips ever further under the waves... I'm back in depair mode again already after only a few weeks of optimism this time... coming close to the point of just disengaing from politics completely, nothing we do makes any difference. We're less than gnat piss on their boots. A few thousands of 'worker-drones' can't match rePig money. rePigs get paid good money to be politicly active, on our side it costs big time. Hell the oposition to the republican machine doesn't even have a name anymore, the democratic party is in shambles, we have no pieces left on the board. Little ability to even develop candidates that will be taken seriously. as if the elections we even fair or honest...
