it's been basicly banned in the US since it was made in 70-71. no movie theaters would show it, no pbs station would play it.

It is a must-see film.

It's a brilliant, brilliant film. A work of cinematic genius. Totally engrossing and absorbing, unlike any other film ever made. A must-see for all politically aware citizens of the Western World, IMO.

I think it's been re-released because I saw that on the shelf at a local video store last week. it might have been a bootleg, but the quality of the box/artwork looked legit.

netflix probably has it (maybe) it's also out on the wires for those who know how to tap the torrent of available bits. Surely tho the creators of this masterpiece deserve to have it purchased.

===
I can't begin to offer a review yet, but it is indeed a powerful film.

Punishment Park

Postby pfredricks » Sat Jan 21, 2006 5:00 pm

Yes, it's out on DVD in both the US & UK and definately worth a purchase.

www.punishmentpark.co.uk/

This is the cheapest US site I've found for it:
www.cduniverse.com/produc...lk_finddvd

or the marketplace sites (which I have had almost zero problems with - I import quite a few DVD's - but their customer service can be utterly shite):
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007UQ2BY/

and the UK (use 'Amazon Jersey' or the marketplace peeps):
www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obi...B00005UWQ3

I've not read much on it, but the director Peter Watkins has developed a theory and critique of media. He's published a 100+ page 'statement' on this at his website:

www.mnsi.net/~pwatkins/part1_home.htm

I'd also recommend his 60's film "The War Game" about a nuclear strike on Britain. It was made for the BBC, but they refused to air it until the 80's when (and I recommend this film too) "Threads" was aired.
