Familiar with the Stephen Glass story at all? The movie Shattered Glass? He was a journalist at TNR who made up stories and got busted. The comment is a reference to that.

"Doh!" is an exclamatory phrase from the Simpsons. Homer, I think.

I don't need 'doh' explained to me, thanks, I meant the story itself. Movies about reporters fall beneath my radar..And all this inside talk about blogger this that blogger that isn't very stimulating, so I'd like to know what this is actually about beyond an apparent pissing contest between media vultures.

Edited by: et in Arcadia ego at: 6/25/06 7:47 pm

Hey, NewKid.

Yeah, I read that the other day. I think blogs serve an important function when they point out inaccuracies and propaganda, and push against dominant memes in the media; and before I say this, I want to make clear I love Greenwald for his legal analysis of Bushevic lawbreaking, but he has a penchant for sniping with other outlets, especially Malkin and Instahack. Some of it is significant, but a lot of it is a huge waste of blog space.

Yeah, you can sense the desperation on both sides. TNR's in trouble if the grownups over there are writing stuff like this.

www.tnr.com/blog/theplank?pid=22305

There's a legitimate issue in not allowing shit like Bobo's hit piece in the Times Select to frame the debate, and I sense the liberal bloggers are quite tired of being constantly under attack, but I also think there's some best defense is a good offense going on because the Armstrong thing has something to it and has some potential to do some damage.

Or perhaps there's a deeper mystery here?

Quote:
Oh yea, on the astrological stuff. I have done the new age type things over the years—life’s never boring that way. Down that line, I dabbled with planets and predictions in the most abstract manner, as one of several different predictive mathematical disciplines, when coming out of finances and into politics during my early blogging days (nobody is surprised that remembers the early 2001 days here), and since then have completely tapered out of it over time. So yea, the cons got me on this one being a little out of the ordinary… It has nothing to do with what I consult with in online political strategy. But hey, like JP Morgan once said, “millionaires don’t use astrology, billionaires do!” I hope to see those wingnuts that are obsessed with every little thing I do at the next bikram yoga or vipassana meditation session in DC-- but fair warning that I believe we evolved from monkeys!

mydd.com/story/2006/6/25/11429/8897

Jeff . . .
