Some interesting news management

Here's what I've been seeing in Spain these past two days. There's a European Union/Asia summit going on in Helsinki, Finland. All the heavy hitters from Asia are there - Chinese president, prime ministers of Japan and South Korea. (Not sure about Putin.) Burma is there as well. A "special Case" for the purposes of this meeting. Asia is wholly represented. The European big guns are there: Chirac, Merkel and on. And NO TONY BLAIR! (As you know he's in Israel.) The United Kingdom is represented by.........John Prescott! Now this is all very newsworthy for a host of reasons. But I've seen no coverage worth the word in Britain. And it seems to me that the ruling family don't want the British people to know about it. Any thoughts?

..doesn't look as though anyone is meant to know about it. I wasn't able to find a single 'news' item about it on google.
