Patriotism test in Washington State school

Actually, I could see these as being good topics for a debate class. I would be interested in knowing more about the context of the questionnaire. Did it begin and end with "agree" or "disagree"?

This is a MILITARISM profiling test for recruiters..if real

Postby Hugh Manatee Wins » Fri Dec 30, 2005 5:55 pm

(I hope this isn't a hoax like the college student in Massachussetts who set-up two teachers who study Islam and Fascism to cry wolf over Homeland Security surveillance of libraries just as the NSA story broke. Newspapers revealing the hoax also smeared the internet and Ted Kennedy in one fell swoop. The student might easily have been on a Pat Roberts CIA scholarship, a mole used for a psy-ops event when activated.)

If this is real, Holy Shit. "Opinionairre"??!! This is to determine whether they would kill people for 'their country' to better recruit the most likely students.

Now that's Militainment!

I think the area of personality profiling which is much used in industry hiring and the military is a ripe area for research.

Psychological warfare is behind all polling to better craft propaganda and target (pun intended) consumers and potential recruits.

Jeff, investigate the personality profiling sciences and you will have the blueprints for scientific fascism as described by Aldous Huxley and Wild Bill Donovan's WWII 'Moral Operations.'

Thanks for this heads up.

Edited by: Hugh Manatee Wins at: 12/30/05 3:04 pm

Agree about them being good topics for debate, chiggerbit, but judging by the scoring there wasn't much room for it.

The As and Ds written in the margins don't look like scores.

Postby Hugh Manatee Wins » Fri Dec 30, 2005 6:20 pm

They look like someone else's Agreement or Disagreement.

Not enough info to know what this really is.

I caution that the internet is being used to launch rumors to discredit it.

Scoring with only A's and D's? Nah. If those were (patriotic)scores, they would be A's and F's, wouldn't you think? My stink-o-meter is flashing red. I suspect there is much more to this story.

military programming in schools

Postby mother » Fri Dec 30, 2005 8:37 pm

I appreciate Hugh Manatee's healthy scepticism, but if I were computer-savvy I'd scan and share examples of very similar b.s. passed off as schoolwork for my child's 2nd-grade class. In this case, in a depressed school zone there is no pretense whatsoever what the school is up to. (we homeschool for now). Not to mention a daily presence of military guys in uniform being buddies at lunch. That particular school has a population identified as "at risk" and the administration and teachers get away with stuff that would never be tolerated by white upper-middle class parents. (at present we live in a very Southern town). I firmly believe sneakier methods are used in more upscale public schools.

Sneakier methods may be used in the upper-class school districts, mother (you're probably close to my age!) but it's the lower-class that are most heavily recruited as cannon-fodder. So of course it will be more blatant. I would be aghast if my boys were subjected to that; they would likely speak out against it, too.

Good for you, home-schooling! We did that for 2 1/2 years, until moving here where there were several charter schools to choose from. --MaryK

A's & D's

Postby somebody » Fri Dec 30, 2005 9:07 pm

Chigger: I think the A's and D'd were indicating what the "correct" answer was "suppose" to be... say, given by the teacher during a class discussion. Just a guess though.

Look at them. Really look at them.

Postby Ferry Fey » Sat Dec 31, 2005 4:21 am

Whoa. Don't jump to conclusions so readily.

First of all, the anecdote doesn't identify who is the source of the penciled As and Ds on the right. You are all assuming a teacher has given them as "correct answers." But they could easily have been a friend's answers.

I've taken a number of those little online quizes over the years, and on the political ones I've always registered as being as firmly in the left as I'd self-identify. So when I look at the test and find how my answers compared, my results tell me a far different story than the one that's being sold here by Paranoid Planet.

I agreed with the kid on three answers, agreed with the margin answers two times. I agreed with both of them twice, and they both disagreed with me three times. I just don't see any pattern indicating that one kind of answer pattern is leftist, or that the margin answers indicate a cohesive philosophical position.

You might, however, want to be concerned that these days a 10th grader isn't assumed to be able to understand the phrase "oft interred" in context.

Yes, Ferry; the "dumbing down" of our educational culture should be a far greater concern. Kids SHOULD be able to fully understand concepts such as these, AND debate them with Big Words and all. But they can't.

Here in Arizona, nearly 1/3 of high school seniors are not passing the test they need to graduate, even after three (so far) tries. And this is the "dumbed-down" version. --MaryK
