on edit - the court decision was reversed, lawyer is OUT of israel.<br><br>Court vetoes move to deport U.K. lawyer who sued IDF officer <br> <br>By Asaf Carmel, Haaretz Correspondent <br> <br>Tel Aviv District Court on Thursday vetoed an Interior Ministry decision to block the entry into Israel of a British lawyer involved in a lawsuit against a senior Israel Defenses Forces officer.<br><br>Judge Avraham Tal accepted Kate Maynard's appeal to the court and ruled that she may be permitted to stay in Israel until Sunday afternoon. <br><br>Maynard arrived in Israel on Wednesday night to lecture on behalf of a Belgian organization called "Lawyers Without Borders."<br><br><br> <br> <br> Advertisement <br> <br>The expert in international and human rights law was very active in legal action to secure an arrest warrant in Britain for Major General Doron Almog for his role in IDF operations during the intifada. <br><br>Almog traveled from Israel to Britain last September to help raise money for severely handicapped people. Due to Maynard's actions against him, Almog was forced to return to Israel without even getting off his flight in London. <br><br>Maynard, who had visited Israel twice in the past, is slated to lecture on her role in the case against Almog at a conference to be held in the A-Ram neighborhood north of Jerusalem. <br><br>Upon her arrival at Ben-Gurion International Airport, she was questioned by security officials. Maynard refused to answer some of their questions that she said broached legal confidentiality codes. <br><br>She was eventually notified that she would not be permitted to enter Israel and would be deported on one of the next London-bound flights. <br><br>With the assistance of Israel attorney Smadar Ben-Natan, Maynard filed an appeal against her deportation. <br><br>"There is no legitimate reason to prevent the petitioner's entry into Israel," Ben-Natan wrote in her appeal.
