according to the site that posted it (as translated by a blogger)

www.illegalvoices.org/ind...d=2&id=319

Quote:
A video, recorded with a cell phone, is circulating throughout the neighbourhoods. A file called “Sarko’s new keufs” [keuf is slang for police] was given to Afrik, and part of it can be viewed online. We see a police car parked with its door open. We think we can make out that someone has thrown something at the police. The response is immediate. We can clearly see plainclothes police firing again and again with heir flash-balls. We see them chasing the young people, calling out “Come back you bastards!”

“Some of the rubber bullets are even signed,” says Kader. “There is a guy who was hit by one that had ‘Boum boum on your ass, see you soon, Luc’ written on it.”

so this is being portrayed as a rodney king type incident by the people that published the video on the net.

As far as I know, police are only authorized to use force one level more than they are being engaged with. Even though they youths are purported to have thrown something at the car, I find it a bit suspicious that the po po had non-lethal riot guns to shoot at them.

i dont find it strange that french police would have riot equipment when dealing with a riot.
I dont think the police where expecting their actions to be recorded so i doubt they where really that worried about authorisation?
maybe its me but i would be suspicious if there was no evidence of police brutality during a riot.

Just looks like a bunch of youths standing around who are genuinely surprised that the police are shooting at them.

maybe its a language problem

Quote:
An agent provocateur (plural: agents provocateurs) is a person assigned to provoke unrest, violence, debate, or argument by or within a group while acting as a member of the group but covertly representing the interests of another. In general, agents provocateurs seek to disrupt a group's activities secretly from within the group.

so for the plainclothed police to be agent provocateurs they would have to be rioters dressed as policemen.
