question: if you could move anywhere in the US... where/why

call it a pragmatic thought experiment, but i'm wondering, if you had the opportunity to move anywhere in the US, where would you go? west coast? south? midwest? it has to be in the US. what's your opinion of the most Rigorously Livable area? <p></p><i></i>

i love the northeast, but i hate the idea of living in a big city. i have friends and family in maine, and it's like a different country, for sure. <br><br>this question is more than a thought experiment for me. making some changes and taking a totally new direction. lived in tennessee and florida all my life. need to go somewhere new. took a drive thru the southwest (padre island to san francisco). liked colorado, new mexico and arizona. i was camping, so that's why i took a route thru southern states. i hate that i didn't get to see oregon and washington. <p></p><i></i>

I live in Minneasota, if my nightmares ever started comming true I would slip accross the border to Canada. <br><br>Spain is looking good too these days. Spannish seems to be a must learn language anyway. <p></p><i></i>

I would not live anywhere in the United States...I will not even put my big toe across till Bush leaves office.<br><br>Right now I live in Canada but am not pleased with its proximity to the United States.<br><br>I will move to Sweden if the US attacks Canada....some people think Canada is a refuge from the States...it is not...it is extremely vulnerable to a take over for land and/or resources...the US is escalating its disputes over our once universally accepted borders...the UK, obviously, will not be any help because the US has already destroyed that country's [once our mentor and protector] sovereignty.<br><br>I would like to live in South America, say Venezuela or Peru or Brazil or Argentina...as far away from the US and in as desolate a place as possible....if I could.<br><br>Rwg<br><br> <p></p><i></i>

I like it best right where I am!<br><br>Despite the fact that Arizona is run by "nearly-deads," I find this an eminently liveable place. Here I'm in a town right on a river, where I have many choices for schooling my kids and myself, and in less than two minutes on horseback I'm on a trail by the water. There is a pair of black hawks (the bird, not the chopper) nesting nearby, otter and beaver, the effect written about by Viktor Schauberger of creativity stimulated by being on the outer edge of running water... lots of art and music for such a small town. Even the police are friendly. Lots of political and metaphysical awareness (proximity to Sedona responsible for the latter, without the outrageous expense.) <br><br>Cottonwood, AZ. Elevation 3300'. Winter was mild (although in 1967 there was a 40" snowfall and roofs were collapsing) and yes, there will be 100 degree days in the summer, but it's not like the Sonora Desert. And the mountains are also minutes away, by road. MaryK <p></p><i></i>

I wouldn't move....i'd stay right here in Portland, OR.<br><br>thriving music scene, thriving art scene, thriving film scene, progressive and open-minded people, beautiful weather (rain isn't so bad--only 4 months out of the year), mountains within an hour's drive, ocean within an hour's drive, camping and fishing everywhere, only 5 hours from Canadian border.<br><br>and of course, Powell's Bookstore. <p></p><i></i>

Mendocino county California, because you can pretty much grow some killer pot there.<br><br>I'm thinking of inviting James Redford!<br><br>Seriously though, its a progressive place for the most part and it has alot of redwoods and maybe one of the best stretches of coastline anywhere. <p></p><i></i>
