A most interesting thread, thanks for suggesting it.
Perhaps down the road we should consider producing an Exquisite Corpse of some fashion?

The images thread is brilliant. Great stuff. Now what we need is a php board.

Fascinated

The images thread is marvelous. It's like word association taken to a higher level.

There have been profound moments for me when I have viewed one image, scrolled to the next and found myself in silent reflection over the meaning of the juxtapositions.

The op art image was totally unexpected and I was momentarily blinded.

It's definitely an interesting thread, and I can't believe how fast it's grown. Bravo, RI-ers! :: golfclap ::

Were there some of Abu Ghraib torture that didn't show up?

I posted one of war dead and then thought better of it and replaced it.

Seems to still be a netiquette thing to warn folks of graphic carnage and that thread isn't about text so...

But censoring myself goes against my better instincts to dump that tepid-compared-to-the-real-thing two-dimensional pixelation of the consequences of war anywhere just to remind people of it. And without a warning, just like the real thing.

Images of carnage and suffering people are so powerful because our brains are hardwired by evolution as social animals to literally feel other's pain. When we see another human face in stress, the stress areas in our own brains fire sympathetically. MRI and CAT-scan technology proved this over the last few years and this is why the Pentagon's media has to deploy so much indoctrination of the young and boogieman theater preparation of American minds to prepare them to kill strangers.

This is because the well-being of those around us as been an important survival cue for a few million years. If you step on a scorpion or eat rotten food and wince, I get the warning.

And so those war photos have been suppressed ever since the Vietnam war to prevent a return of what is euphemistically called 'the 60s.'

Consider the effect of printing out the most horrible photos you can find, printing them out, opening newspaper boxes, and spiking every USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times with that news which is being left out.

Now imagine doing this everyday for a long time.

It would be a way to show that war really is terrorism by simply showing the hidden evidence without euphemisms.

Wonderful!

Postby Wolfmoon Lady » Sat Jul 29, 2006 3:45 pm

Many thanks for starting the image thread, Arcadia.

RI-ers, I am impressed! Some of the collages are breathtaking. Also interesting is the juxtapositioning of images by different posters - some post seem to occur close together in real time. Just wonderful. LOVE IT!!!!!!

Note: A photobucket account is easy to come by. If you find something you like on the web, right click on it and cut and paste the image properties. You will find the URL for that image (should be a .jpg or .gif file type). With photobucket, you can upload multiple images at once, and will not be stealing bandwidth by hotlinking to the picture's original site.

Brilliant, all.

Quote:
how do you get it from the website over to the thread?

When you're at another website looking at the image you want back here, right-click on the image and get either a drop-down menu with 'copy image location' or if your browser software doesn't' offer that easy shortcut, than you can right-click to get 'properties.'

If you have to choose 'properties,' then copy the url address in the 'properties' box.

Now post here by putting your cursor in the response text box and then clicking on 'image' over on the left under the choices for 'insert.'

Paste in the image's url address in the box and click 'ok.'

The address will appear in the response text box inbetween little ezcode brackets for 'image.'

Hit 'add reply' and you've done it. You right click on an image you like and then go to a special website and upload it into the website but THEN how do you get it from the website over to the thread?

I'm not someone who should be answering this, but I have gotten through the second part.

You hit reply. If you're logged in, you'll see a column of buttons to the left of the comment space. Click on the one that says "image," which is the one on top. You'll get a window with a space for the image's address. I'm sure most people know how to copy and paste it, but I always have to type it in by hand. After you've done that, you click the OK button on the window and the address appears in the comment space and will look something like:

(img noborder)address(/img)

Then you just hit Add Reply. If you get a little red square with an X in it, doublecheck to see if the address is correct. That's it.

Also, if you find a website that accepts images, you can upload them from your own computer ("browse") as well as other sites. (The images I've posted are all screen captures from my own VHS tapes). The website I use, Blogger, is free, and just recently was upgraded to accept photos.
