A Short History of Election Fraud
By Daniel Hopsicker - November 15, 20203282
AN OPEN MEMO TO SEAN HANNITY

It’s not like I’m not sympathetic to the notion that elections can be stolen. It’s just that the people talking about it are such fucking parvenus.

All week on FOX Sean Hannity said he just wanted to see an honest election where every vote gets counted. Sounds reasonable.

Except, Sean, respectfully: why start now?

Election fraud is like herpes. It’s been around a long time.

Allegations of election fraud have been around forever. Election rigging is an open secret: Everybody knows about it. Donald Trump has been holding it as a trump card since last Spring. Even you know about it, Sean. I mean, you’ve been around, right? This isn’t your first rodeo.

Election companies like Dominion Voting Systems have been steeped in graft, scandal and corruption since Dwight David Eisenhower was in knee pants.

Most people like to think their sacred vote is being cast and tabulated under the watchful eye of guys in white lab coats with pocket protectors.

Some of us—maybe you and me, Sean— understand it’s not really like that. We can face things straight up.

I mean, you’re not—perish the thought—like Chuck fucking Todd, are you? At least you don’t have those ridiculous hair plugs that look like they trying to wriggle their way off his scalp.

NBC Political Director Todd made it perfectly clear in 2016 that he doesn’t give a rat’s ass who owns the companies that counted the votes, as long as they were mostly for Hillary. But that’s another story.

So, Sean, let me help you redeem the American mainstream media. Because I could use a little revenge. So I’m going to give you the shot. What you do with it is totally on you. Who knows? Something may come of it.

Because when it comes to election fraud, I have the same goal Gary Webb did about CIA drug trafficking. He told me that he just wanted to able to say that he’d helped to drag the dead body out from underneath the bed just a few more inches.

Take my word for it. You need the help! Because Rudy Guiliani has already lost sight of the reservation he wasn’t really on to begin with.

OMG Rudy! Who told you about SMARTMATIC?

Did somebody call “Bring Out Your Dead?”

Giuliani just tweeted, “Look up SMARTMATIC and tweet me what you think? It will all come out.”

And then when I turned on FOX there was some batshit crazy woman lawyer—you know the one I’m talking about, Sean? And she was dishing about the long-range plans by Hugo Chavez and Dominion Voting Systems to subvert democracy in America!

Sean, I hate to tell you, but…Hugo Chavez is already dead. Still dead, just like Franco.

So even if he was a Communist, there’s no need to go kill him again.

Besides, when I tell you the real story of SMARTMATIC, which is vastly more entertaining than anything you’ll hear from Rudy, you won’t go down that ridiculous dry hole.

No vote fraud? Be of good cheer! There’s election fraud.

But first things first: There’s no such thing as voter fraud. Maybe a handful of amateurs. Because the retail worth of voter fraud, with 150 million people casting ballots is NADA. But don’t be discouraged. Because there is plenty of election fraud. Wholesale fraud is pretty lucrative.

The quick skinny on Dominion

I know a thing or two about the company you’re interested in, Sean: Dominion Voting Systems.

Two days before the Democratic primary in California in 2016, I wrote, “If the 2016 Democratic primary in California is rigged, it’s ‘‘the boys’ from one company—Sequoia Pacific nee Dominion Voting Systems–who’ll be charged with making it happen.”

The headline was “CALIFORNIA SIGALERT!”

“Be on lookout for late-model black SUV with illegally-tinted windows, and a million votes tied up in the trunk.”

So here’s the quick skinny: Founded in 2003 in Toronto, Dominion Voting Systems is privately owned. Meaning… it’s basically none of your business.

If pressed, Dominion will grudgingly tell you the company is managed by its management team (natch!), and owned by a New York-based private equity firm called Staple Street Capital Management.

In addition to Dominion, State Street own Six Flags, a self-storage company, an after-market electronic equipment company, and an essential oils manufacturer.

But there’s no need to worry about Staple Street Capital. Dominion is just “parked” there, in their blandly safe and anonymous hands.

I hope you weren’t expecting to discover Dominion’s true owner was really a company called Lucifer Holdings LLC. The last time an election company got caught with its hand in that particular “inconvenient owner” cookie jar was in 2004.

The presidential election that year was decided in Ohio, whose votes were counted by Diebold Industries, which just happened to be owned at the time by some ever-so-slightly-too-enthusiastic supporters of President George W. Bush.

It left a bad taste. So, what happened? Well, it’s curious. Maybe just a coincidence? Or maybe it’s just one of those things.

Because a few years later, a previously unknown private company in Toronto—Dominion Voting Systems, that’s your company, right, Sean?—stepped in and bought Sequoia Voting Systems. Incidentally, the company claims to be the oldest American election company, founded in 1898 in Jamestown, New York.

But because this is a “short history” of election fraud, I’ll try not to dwell on the company’s completely sordid past.

But it fills volumes.

But wait! There’s more!

Shortly after the Diebold acquisition, Dominion Voting Systems bought the assets of America’s third largest election company, Diebold in Ohio. George W Bush’s big backers back in 2004.

Wow. Dominion Voting Systems now owned the two dirtiest election companies in America. They’d stepped in the shit big-time. It’s almost like they did it on purpose.

Do you know what that means, Sean?

It means that America’s biggest election company, E S & S, Election Service & Software, of Omaha Nebraska—which has temporarily been keeping its nose clean—is perfectly positioned to step in and play the white knight.

And believe me: E S & S is anything but a white knight.

E S & S is about to pick up Dominion’s biggest customers and juiciest contracts. Then the government—meaning, usually, the individual secretaries of state—will be able to say, “Boy we sure blew that election! But did I clean house? Gimme four more years!”

See, what election services companies do—besides every so often fitfully count votes—is distribute the graft. Executives and managers from the largest American election service companies have been convicted of bribery and suborning public officials in more than a dozen states. There’s not an election company out there that hasn’t been convicted of enough felonies to make the most hardened criminal blush.

But, convicted felons, take heart! While a felony conviction may be enough to disqualify you from voting in places like Florida…Even multiple felony convictions in no way disqualifies you from counting the votes.

Is this a great country, or what!

A word is born

If it turns out there’s some kind of “cover-up” of the true ownership of Dominion Voting Systems, it would be pretty ironic.

That’s because the very word “cover-up” was first coined in a conversation involving a previous owner of Sequoia Pacific/Dominion Voting. His name was Louis Wolfson, and he was a convicted felon.

According to now-deceased New York Times wordsmith William Safire, the word “cover-up” was first used in a conversation between Wolfson and a man he’d been bribing, which, remember, is a key function of election companies, along with, you know, counting votes.

Felon Louis Wolfson didn’t coin the term. Instead, it was the man he’d been bribing who invented it, presumably at the instant of need, as he was getting pretty desperate.

His name was Abe Fortas, and he was a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

But not for long. Fortas became the first Supreme Court Justice ever removed from the Court, convicted of taking bribes, because the man he was talking with, Wolfson, was wearing a wire.

At the time, Wolfson was— in criminal parlance— trying to ‘work off a beef.’

And this is where I came in

Thirty years later, Louis Wolfson’s company, now called Sequoia Pacific, was responsible for the Great Florida Vote Snafu. Remember hanging chad? These are those guys.

If FOX viewers today… knew that the election company counting a lot of their votes—Dominion Voting Systems—caused the Florida Vote Snafu in 2000, would viewers have less confidence in American elections?

Maybe. But remember that Sequoia Pacific/Dominion Voting Systems hanging chad put Republican George W. Bush in the White House. Waiting till your boy has lost before complaining about it smacks of rank hypocrisy.

The Big Fix 2000: Watch it on Amazon Prime

Twenty years ago I did a documentary called “The Big Fix 2000” on a subject that had never been covered before. Instead of profiling ways election machines can be hacked—there were already plenty of documentaries about that—I decided to investigate the ownership of the two companies that—then and now—dominate the American election industry.

I traveled to Ireland to find the man whose election company made George W Bush America’s president.

His name was Dr. Michael Smurfit, Ireland’s richest multimillionaire. He got his start as a bagman for David Rockefeller, an Irish private detective told me. And he hung out at racetracks in Switzerland with Zurich currency speculators.

Election companies are owned by New Jersey Mobsters, by international gamblers, Zurich currency manipulators, Bahamian resort owners, and supra-national financiers.

Their companies have untraceable shareholders, and numbered bank accounts in Switzerland and the Channel Islands. Their corporate documents are often signed by fictitious nominees. And they are routinely involved in systemic bribery of public officials, like the Prime Minister of Ireland.

You’ve probably figured out that this is a ‘problem” that won’t get fixed anytime soon. And you’d be right.

Hey Rudy: “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing”

Finally, that company Rudy Guiliani is going on about? SMARTMATIC?

Back in 2006, the U.S. government began an investigation of SMARTMATIC— which had been linked to the leftist government of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez—because they’d just bought Sequoia Pacific, a company which moves around a lot.

An American Congresswoman called into question the national security implications involved in the sale of an American election services company to a Venezuelan software firm, SMARTMATIC.

Of course, it wasn’t really Venezuelan. Not exactly, anyway…

SMARTMATIC was actually owned by a trust in Amsterdam. Not exactly, though…

Because the trust in Amsterdam was itself owned…by a company in the Netherlands Antilles, but not exactly…

Because the company in the Netherland Antilles was owned by a private foundation in Geneva, Switzerland.

In America’s hugely compromised election industry, this is business as usual. Yet somehow this fact completely escapes scrutiny every four years.in the mainstream media, except for that brief brouhaha beca

Police, Phone Company Implicated : Alleged Wiretap Voter Fraud Scheme Investigated in Cincinnati

The Police/FBI were doing this to voters and taxpayers in 1972
They have gotten a lot better.

The spying operation headed by the police allegedly involved other illegal acts, including burglaries and arson.
Five police officers, including a former police chief, have taken the Fifth Amendment before the grand jury rather than answer questions about their roles in the wiretapping scheme. Spokesmen for Cincinnati Bell flatly deny that the allegations are true.

"As far as I am concerned, the initial focus for all of this began
with the FBI. The FBI apparently set up a structure throughout the
United States using apparently the security chiefs of the different
Bell companies. They say that there have been other cases in the
United States like ours in Cincinnati but they have been localized
without the realization of an overall pattern being implicated."

"The things that ties this all together is if you go way back in
history to the Hoover period at the FBI, he apparently got together
with the AT&T security people. There is an organization that I
guess exists to this day with regular meetings of the security
people of the different Bell companies. This meant that the FBI
would be able to target a group of 20 or 30 people that represented
the security points for all of the Bell and AT&T connections in the
United States. I believe the key to all of this goes back to Hoover.
The FBI worked through that group who then created the activity at
the local level as a result of central planning."

"I believe that in spite of the fact that many people have indicated
that this is an early 70's problem -- that there is no disruption to
that work to this day. I am pretty much convinced that it is
continuing. It looks like a large surveillance effort that
Cincinnati was just a part of."

Sigmund Diamond. Compromised Campus: The Collaboration of Universities with the Intelligence Community
This is a remarkable book, not only for what is said but for how and
by whom it is said. Sigmund Diamond begins with his own experience
as a Ph.D. from Harvard, where, in 1954, he was withdrawn from con-
sideration for an administrative position due to alleged past associations
with the Communist party. Twenty-three years later, in the New York
Review of Books, Diamond excoriated Education and Politics at Har-
vard, by Seymour Martin Lipset and David Riesman, for the authors'
casual exoneration of Harvard's behavior during the McCarthy era. Di-
amond recalled that Harvard dean McGeorge Bundy had offered to in-
tercede in his case, but only if Diamond would agree to name his former
political associates. In short, he was asked to become an FBI informer.
How many others, Diamond wondered, had been put into similar po-
sitions, at Harvard and elsewhere? What did his own experience suggest
about university complicity with government security agencies such as
the FBI and the CIA?
In his current study the author takes us step by step through his
own efforts to uncover at least some truths (if not "the truth"). He focuses
primarily on Harvard and Yale, in order to trace in some detail their
long decades of covert cooperation. FBI and university

• Updated voter registration book
• Voters marking their paper ballots
• Voters with state photo IDs & signature
• Casting & counting ballots on Election Day only • Secret ballot

• Municipalities should provide free transportation to the polls for the disabled.
• For those who cannot make it to the polls on Election Day due to disability, designated teams of poll workers together with poll watchers can visit places such as nursing homes on Election Day in order to conduct onsite voting and deliver the ballots to the local polling station to be counted on that same day, thereby maintaining transparency and chain-of-custody requirements.  Similarly, polls could be set up at embassies, consulates, and military bases for citizens living overseas.
• And for those who don’t believe we can get enough people to count ballots, election officials have every right to draft citizens into service, as is done with jury duty.
• Registration Offices should post special Saturday hours once a month at the Voter Registration Office, plus provide IDs-On-Wheels for those who cannot make it to the Registration Office due to their disability or job.
• Registration should be closed one month before an election in order to verify that the registrations are legitimate and the records up-to-date.
• Develop a formula of registered voters per poll divided by the number of poll workers needed to get ballots counted on election day; the length of ballot also needs to be factored in.
PROTOCOLS FOR POLITICAL REPRESENTATION:
• Ban "AT LARGE" town council candidates as it results in over-representation by the majority party.
• Ban gerrymandering by using a static grid

FBI agents caught committing voter fraud during 1980’s in Cincinnati

The wiretapping started with drug dealers and expanded to political and business figures, according to Gates. In 1979, he testified, he was ordered to wiretap the Hamilton County Regional Computer Center, which handled vote tabulations. His handler at the phone company allegedly told Gates the wiretap was intended to manipulate election results.
“They had the ability to actually alter what was being done with the votes. … He was very upset through some of the elections with a gentleman named Blackwell,” Gates testified.
In 1988 Leonard Gates, a former installer for Cincinnati Bell, told the Mount Washington Press, a small independent weekly, that he had performed illegal wiretaps for the Cincinnati Police Department, the FBI and the phone company itself.
A week after the paper published his allegations, a federal grand jury began hearing testimony.
Gates claimed to have performed an estimated 1,200 wiretaps, which he believed illegal. His list of targets included former Mayor Jerry Springer, the late tycoon Carl Lindner Jr., U.S. District Judge Carl Rubin, U.S. Magistrate J. Vincent Aug, the late U.S. Sen. Howard Metzenbaum (D-Ohio), the Students for a Democratic Society (an anti-war group during the Vietnam War), then-U.S. Rep. Tom Luken (D-Cincinnati) and then-President Gerald Ford.
A second former Cincinnati Bell installer, Robert Draise, joined Gates, saying he, too had performed illegal wiretaps for the police. His alleged targets included the Black Muslim mosque in Finneytown and the General Electric plant in Evendale. Draise’s portfolio was much smaller than Gates’s, an estimated 100 taps, because he was caught freelancing – performing an illegal wiretap for a friend.

Cincinnati Bell security supervisors ordered wire taps installed on county computers before elections in the late 1970s and early 1980s that could have allowed vote totals to be altered, a former Bell employee says in a sworn court documents
Leonard Gates, a 23-year Cincinnati Bell employee until he was fired in 1986, claims in a deposition filed Thursday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court to have installed the wire taps.
Cincinnati Bell officials denied Gates' allegations tha are part of a six-year-old civil suit that contends the elections computer is subject to manipulation and fraud.
Gates claims a security supervisor for the telephone company told him in 1979 that the firm had obtained a computer program through the FBI that gave it access to the county computer used to count votes.
The deposition does not say if vote totals ever were changed. Gates claimed to have installed wire taps on county computers befoore the elections in 1977 through 1981 and believes, but wasn't certain, in 1982 and 1983.
Gates' allegations also have taken on political overtones. He appeared in a television

Why won't the Department of Justice (DOJ) investigate electronic vote fraud? Is it because the DOJ and FBI have long been involved in it, themselves?
“If you did it right, no one would ever know,” said Craig C. Donsanto, head of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Election Crimes Branch, Public Integrity Section (from 1970-2010) in a July 4,1989 Los Angeles Times article about electronic voting machines and vote fraud.

Hale Boggs on J. Edgar Hoover: Rhetorical choice and political denunciation
Southern Speech Communication Journal, 1981
Dirk Gibson
Abstract
Hale Boggs’ 1971 denunciation of J. Edgar Hoover was an unexpected and highly controversial rhetorical act. This essay proposes an explanation of why only Boggs stood in Congress to complain about FBI behavior feared by many, through consideration of public and private motives. In addition the accuracy of Boggs’ brief speech is explored.

https://spartacus-educational.com/JFKboggs.htm
Boggs had doubts that John F. Kennedy and J. D. Tippit had been killed by Lee Harvey Oswald and that Jack Ruby was not part of any conspiracy." According to Bernard Fensterwald: "Almost from the beginning, Congressman Boggs had been suspicious over the FBI and CIA's reluctance to provide hard information when the Commission's probe turned to certain areas, such as allegations that Oswald may have been an undercover operative of some sort. When the Commission sought to disprove the growing suspicion that Oswald had once worked for the FBI, Boggs was outraged that the only proof of denial that the FBI offered was a brief statement of disclaimer by J. Edgar Hoover. It was Hale Boggs who drew an admission from Allen Dulles that the CIA's record of employing someone like Oswald might be so heavily coded that the verification of his service would be almost impossible for outside investigators to establish."

March Weather Stats for Maine
DDATters, Ed's March weather summary
Garland Climatology for March, 2024 (1991-2020 averages in parentheses):
average max:  43.5F (40.5F)
average min:  25.7F (22.0F)
extreme max:  56F
extreme min:   -2F
total precipitation:   10.35 in. (4.37 in.)
total snowfall:   19.3 in. (15.3 in.)

Once again, another month has passed that has been substantially warmer than the 30 year climatological average.  The average max temperature for March was 3F warmer than usual while the average min was 3.7F warmer than usual.  In addition, it was an extraordinary wet month with just about 6 inches more than usual for a typical March.  And even though we only had two real snow events other than some widely scattered flurries, those two storms brought most of the snow for the month which totaled 4 inches more than usual.  In fact, March was the snowiest month of the regular winter snow season by far, especially when compared with the usual snowiest month of February which only saw 2 inches total!  The reason for the unusual warmth continued to be a general lack of really cold air in Canada which was also combined with a wavy jet stream that kept a very active storm track over us for much of the month.  The lack of cold air in Canada allowed the frequent moisture-laden storms to pull a lot of unseasonably mild and humid air into our region for most of the time.  The exception occurred for the two snow events during the second half of the month when the jet stream dipped far enough south of our region to pull enough Canadian air into the storms’ circulations so that we saw quite a bit of snow, especially with the second system which dropped up to 2-3 feet in some spots closer to the mountains!  Otherwise, the jet stream remained north of our region while just some short waves rippled through the flow to cause the frequent rain events.  Such a jet stream pattern is actually quite typical during an El Nino year which we’re still in until probably early summer before it breaks down to a more neutral pattern in the tropical Pacific.  But we also have to take into account the continued warming of the atmosphere and especially the oceans (all the others besides the Pacific during the El Nino cycle) which seemed to accelerate over the past year!  We did have some sunny, dry periods mixed in here and there which helped to rapidly melt the lingering winter snowpack (the two snow events occurred on mostly bare ground).  But generally, the flow ended up being more humid with lots of clouds and the periodic rain.  Total heating degrees were only 942 compared with an average of 1046 in a more “normal” year.  This compares with 1001 heating degrees last year which was also a warmer than usual March, though not quite as warm as this year has been.

The Cincinnati Bell-FBI Voter Fraud scandal:  Leonard Gates, a Cincinnati Bell employee for 23 years, testified that in the late 1970's and 80's, the FBI assisted telephone companies with hacking into mainframe election computers in cities across the country. He spoke with agents from both the DOJ (U.S. Attorney Kathleen M. Brinkman) and FBI (Agent Love), but to his knowledge, neither agency took further action.  Leonard Gates 1987Deposition, plus 1985 Background Material from Jim Condit, Jr. //Pandora's Black Box & http://www.votefraud.org/expert_strunk_report.htm (contains case number)
* Gates testified, P. 28, "He (Gates's supervisor, Mr. Jim West,) said the programming was obtained out of California, and that the programming had been obtained through the FBI, and all this kind of stuff, and that was about it."
* Page 34 excerpt: "And I knew that we did do certain things under certain court direction, under certain court orders, and I just didn't see where they would have a court order to get into that, and I expressed my concern to Mr. Dugan (President of Cincinnati Bell).  Mr. Dugan said it was a very gray area, and that they were into like New York and Atlanta, Georgia, and to the other computers, you know.  This was just small compared to what was going on."
* Page 39, "...and I said, "Well, do you (Mr.Fedrich, vice president of Cincinnati Bell) have a blanket court order on this or what?"  And he kind of weasel-worded me, to be honest with you.  He said "Well, our relationship with the FBI is very, very close."
Excerpt from Nov 1996, Pandora's Black Box by Philip M. O’Halloran of Relevance, The Cincinnati Election Wiretapping Scandal:
Lewis and other skeptics of the vote-fixing scenario like to insist that there has never been any evidence of a "conspiracy" to fix elections by computer. But then, most of those we interviewed on both sides of the issue had never heard of the case of Leonard Gates of Cincinnati, Ohio. An employee of the Cincinnati Bell telephone company, Gates was watching a local t.v. news story, in which a Cincinnati man named Jim Condit was charging that the election system was vulnerable to vote fraud in the Hamilton county election process.
He based his charges on his experience as a candidate for city council in 1979, when, after an election night computer crash, Condit and seven other "feisty challengers" had suddenly "fallen to the very bottom of the heap" of 26 candidates. Gates called the station and later contacted Mr. Condit, telling him he knew firsthand how his votes were robbed. They met and shared information and ultimately Gates testified in Condit’s Cincinnatus PAC (political action committee) lawsuit against the Hamilton County Board of Elections.
The suit had earlier been decided against the plaintiffs and Gates took the stand during the appeal. He swore under oath that he was ordered by his Cincinnati Bell superiors to wiretap the election headquarters’ phones lines to provide a link-up between the county’s vote-counting computers and parties unknown on another phone line somewhere in California.
The following are excerpts from the Cincinnati Post of October, 30th, 1987:
Cincinnati Bell security supervisors ordered wire-taps installed on county computers before elections in the late 1970s and early 1980s that could have allowed vote totals to be altered, a former Bell employee says in a sworn court document.
Leonard Gates, a 23-year Cincinnati Bell employee until he was fired in 1986, claims in a deposition filed Thursday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court to have installed the wire-taps. Cincinnati Bell officials denied Gates’ allegations that are part of a six-year-old civil suit that contends the elections computer is subject o manipulation and fraud.
Gates claims a security supervisor for the telephone company told him in 1979 that the firm had obtained a computer program through the FBI that gave it access to the county computer used to count votes. [Emphasis added].
The FBI refused comment and Cincinnati Bell spokesmen vehemently denied the allegations, claiming Gates was a "disgruntled ex-employee", yet, according to Condit, the company ultimately admitted that one of its vans was involved in the wiretapping, although it claimed they were commandeered without the company’s knowledge. The Post continued:
In the deposition, Gates claims he first installed a wire-tap on a telephone line to the county computers before the 1977 election at the instruction of James West, a Bell security supervisor.
Gates contends both West and Peter Gabor, security director, told him to install wire-taps in subsequent elections. Both men declined comment Thursday.
In the 1979 election, which is the focus of the deposition – Gates said he received instructions in the mail from West about installing wire-taps on county computers in the County Administration Building at Court and Main streets.
The wire-taps were installed on the eve of the election at Cincinnati Bell’s switching control center at Seventh and Elm Streets and terminated in a conference room in the building, Gates alleges.
In the deposition, Gates described in great technical detail installation of the wire-taps.
At about 8:30 p.m. on election day – Nov. 6, 1979 – Gates said he was called by West and told something had gone wrong, causing the elections computer to malfunction. At West’s instructions, Gates said he removed the taps.
The elections computer shutdown for two hours on election evening due to what was believed to be a power failure, Condit Sr. has said.
Gates said West told him they "had the ability to actually alter what was being done with the votes."
Gates said West told him the Board of elections did not know about the taps and that the computer program for the elections computer "was obtained out of California, and that the programming had been obtained through the FBI..."
Shortly after the 1979 election, Gates said he met with the late Richard Dugan, former Cincinnati Bell president, to express his concerns that the wire-taps were done without a court order.
"Mr. Dugan said it was a very gray area... This was just small compared to what was going on. He told me just, if I had a problem, to talk to him and everything would be okay, but everything was under control," Gates said [Emphasis added].
[Editor’s Note: This scandal’s alleged FBI connection raises the possibility of U.S. law enforcement and/or intelligence involvement in electronic vote-rigging.]
Another Cincinnati Bell employee, named Bob Draise, admitted to being involved in a second phase of the illegal operation, which involved wiretapping several prominent Cincinnati political figures including a crusader against pornography named Keating and the Hamilton County commissioner, Allen Paul.
Jim Condit told Relevance that, as a result of the ensuing scandal, Draise was convicted and five Cincinnati police officers, who were allegedly involved in the wiretapping operation, abruptly resigned. The alleged involvement of the FBI was never pursued and the Bureau itself did not follow up on the Gates allegations. In spite of all the evidence, the appeal by the plaintiff failed and the issue was laid to res

This lawsuit could not be more impeccably timed. Whether or not this timing is more fortuitous than impeccable remains to be seen, but there’s no denying the bang-bang-bang effect on display here, even if it may just be coincidental.
Last week, a Virginia federal court ruled three hits from Flock ALPR cameras wasn’t enough to trigger a Fourth Amendment violation. It reasoned this was not the same sort of post facto long-term tracking addressed by the Supreme Court’s Carpenter decision, which mainly dealt with law enforcement’s obtaining massive amounts of cell site location data from service providers without a warrant.
That decision erected a warrant requirement for obtaining this data from serv

The FBI's public relations strategy, particularly under J. Edgar Hoover, was characterized by a sophisticated approach to managing its image and countering criticism. This involved cultivating relationships with journalists and leveraging media narratives to portray the Bureau favorably. The following sections outline key aspects of this strategy.
Historical Context and Strategies
* Hoover's era saw the FBI actively engaging in public relations to combat negative portrayals, such as the smear campaign in 1958 against The Nation, where Hoover's team framed criticism as a communist conspiracy(Cecil, 2001).
* The Bureau utilized "blue gems," Hoover's handwritten comments, to guide public perception and maintain a heroic image of the FBI(Cecil et al., 2017).
Media Relationships
* Hoover fostered personal connections with journalists, creating a network of "friends of the Bureau" who would promote the FBI's narrative in their publications(Cecil, 2011).
* The FBI's Crime Records Division played a crucial role in this effort, producing thousands of personalized letters to journalists, enhancing the Bureau's public image through favorable media coverage(Cecil, 2011).

Court Tells Plaintiff Oft-Abused Wiretap Act Can’t Be Abused To Cover Website Interactions
Legal Issues from the ma'am-this-is-a-website dept
Fri, Nov 1st 2024 11:01am - Tim Cushing
Very few states laws can be considered to be “famous.” Almost any state law immediately recognized by people in other states can only be described as “infamous.” The Wiretap Law enacted in Massachusetts is definitely infamous.
For years, this statute was abused by law enforcement officers and other state employeesto punish or prosecute residents who recorded them performing their public duties. This sort of thing occurred regularly in the state until a federal court told the state governmentthe law couldn’t be used to arrest people for recording cops or other government employees.
But the law remains problematic, not just because of this oft-observed abuse but because the law’s language is vague enough to encompass almost any definition of communication and almost any entity that might have the ability to eavesdrop on the communications of others.
Because of that, it takes the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court 93 pages [PDF] to arrive at the obvious conclusion that a hospital website passing browser information on to advertisers and other
