no dice. what you say doesn't ring any bells for me, though it certainly wouldn't suprise me. The Baph pose always reminded me of indian postures, and there's a lot of that in Eliphas Levi, though usually not outrightly obvious.

tentative searching reveals lots of death metal artwork and pornography.

good luck.

I will try to find Thanks again for images help and other!

Postby zhivkov » Wed Nov 12, 2008 10:43 pm

OE-so many questions and thoughts-but I won't put them here for now(all of them anyway)- Detroit has such an elegant flag/emblem/shield-considering what happened to the city over the years. The only 'art' book I have is a coffee table sized one about Dali-I would love to have one by Waterhouse and others-'the lady' is my fave of his too-I like the way he images his guys also-not overly muscular-sometimes I think I must be one of just a few of 'teh gays' not obsessed with huge builds and 'organ' size-no offense to any others reading this-just talkin about my neck of the woods. I will try to find the image you mentioned-if I am not back later it means my connection was lost-but I don't know if I can find it.

The 40k is an online game set in interstellar space? interesting I will look that up. St. Celestine very killy?-that was a cool image.
For a leftie I can't believe I missed the Iron Boot-Allende
image-In Sept I thought of doing a post about the anniversary
of Orlando Letellier's assassination-but forgot.
Hehe-there is some middle aged moron who has
posted pics of his mug in the art section at imageshack
Still struggling to find things there-I wanted to post an
image of 'Christina's World' I think its called-Wyeth?
can't find-still looking for Putin-Yoda-thinking of that
I had thought of doing a post in the lounge of world
leader and popular culture people(alive and dead-current
and former)-animal totems-I was going to start
with Jacques Chirac=Beagle or Bloodhound-kind of silly.
Hope to be back with the image you mentioned
or something decent for the thread. I have seen Levi's
work before maybe that will make it easier.
Thanks again for starting this and everyone else
who contributed-maybe 'Death of Chatterton'
and death of Marat painting could fit here.
Charlotte Corday is one of my heroines.
But I am given over to hero-worship
quite a bit-surprised I never got into comics-
although I love some graphic comics(not necessarily pRon)

ps-if anyone stops by here, do you know of a site
that would give examples of how to do a decent
book review? I have enjoyed Anxious Gravity
enormously, but am afraid if I start a review
it will turn out sounding like a hagiography of Jeff's
work-like it was done by someone who lives online
mostly at RI-like I do. I want it to sound like a 'discovery'
not done by somebody that feels like Paul Krassner
towards Mae Brussell.
Still trying to find the Baphomet image. I wonder if the image above the Gaiman book is Native American?-I do need the hand of chance tipped in my favor.
Still trying to find 19th cent image-was trying to do multiple images until inspiration came to me-forgot I have a Van Gogh book.

Detroit is a hellhole. It is OUR hellhole, as we'd fight for every millimeter of it, but it is still a hellhole. It is saddest on account of how gothically gorgeous it would be if we only had slightly better luck.

Probably half of the gay men I know are (some former) soldiers, so my opinions as to their tendencies may be somewhat skewed. (one of the best WH40K players I know is an, well, extremely gay (?) ex-marine who maintains a personal physical regimen bordering on excessive/obsessive)
If it was me who was in the, erm, position wherein reception of "organs" was inevitable, I think I'd gravitate towards a happy medium.

"neck of the woods" is interesting contextual phrasing, btw.

40K (and its fantasy counterpart) is a table top game, although there are now video game equivalents. It is probably Games Workshop's most popular game. The game has been around since before the internet proper and/or video game capacity to support its system. I'd imagine the video interactive versions will eventually surpass the traditional table game in popularity, especially in north america.

Blizzard ripped off most of its good ideas from the Warhammer worlds, hence the comic strip wherein the tabletop player is offended by the notion (common) that the Warhammer internet game "steals" ideas from WoW, when the opposite is more correct.

It is an expensive hobby. Individual models will cost upwards of $6 a piece, and depending on the scale one plays at they will require dozens if not hundreds of pieces. On the upside, despite rules updates every couple of years, the tabletop models are largely ret-con capable, and can therefore be used with newer versions of the game. I can still use the same pieces I used a decade ago. Video game players cannot often make the same claim.

(for those who play, bring forces to the first RI summit, which will happen eventually, and I will play with you. I'm always looking for teh smart peoples to play with)

(i can field space marines to approximately chapter size, for those of you who know what this means)

Most of my shots of Nebuli came from Hubble.

I can't help you with book reviews. Sorry.

Which Gaiman book?
I don't know that I posted anything by him, though someone else may've. It is entirely possible, as I read him frequently. One of my booksellers commented once on the fact that I left the bookstore with books by Dick, Gaiman, and Moorcock...

(Games Worshop's backstories owe huge to M Moorcock, for his conceptions of Chaos gods, etc)

Which image are you asking about, perhaps someone can tell you?

OE -thanks for the answers-the image question really wasn't that important-I think it was a small image one pg 7 and the Gaiman book was called Silk?-I had just wondered because there was a swastika in the image and I remember that being important in both native and east indian
mythology-I am still trying to do multiple images-just did the first one but both came out thumbnail size-so I deleted and will try again.

I am still looking in betwixt and between for the image you mentioned(baphomet pose) while i was searching for this I found what i thought would be a perfect image for this thread-the only way to download it was by pdf-it is a beautiful kind of kabbalah-magical-circle mandala-hard to describe but it would fit here-I just cant get an image from pdf on my computer to upload to imageshack.-i am going to be awake awhile more and as long as i am connected going to try a few things-I will go back through your answers-very sad about Detroit-

That would be cool if there is ever ab RI event anywhere that I can afford to get to. I was going through my stuff and think I have the perfect gift for you and Perelandra (yours i hope you don't already have) and a couple of others on the forum who have been a huge help to me in the last months(don't know if the others are perfect type gifts though)-best to you and i might be awake and back with some more stuff as i have got to get up early tomorrow and should stay awake longer so i am finally exhausted and just sleep thru the night. All of the gaming info is very interesting too-i understand the 'comic' panel from a lot earlier after reading your comments about WoW-Z
I was just comin back-that was the one Kiernan book and gaiman review-my fault hehe

ah, the Caitlin Kiernan book. (with an endorsement from Mr. Gaiman on the Cover) [good book, btw]

It is a Hopi Drawing (a facsimile) above. It shows the emergence of the people into the new world. (the svastika haz been a solar symbol since at least atlantis)

best poetry re: war?

Postby OP ED » Thu Nov 13, 2008 7:02 pm

Through the travail of the ages,
Midst the pomp and toil of war,
I have fought and strove and perished
Countless times upon this star.

In the form of many people
In all panoplies of time
Have I seen the luring vision
Of the Victory Maid, sublime.

I have battled for fresh mammoth,
I have warred for pastures new,
I have listed to the whispers
When the race trek instinct grew.

I have known the call to battle
In each changeless changing shape
From the high souled voice of conscience
To the beastly lust for rape.

I have sinned and I have suffered,
Played the hero and the knave;
Fought for belly, shame, or country,
And for each have found a grave.

I cannot name my battles
For the visions are not clear,
Yet, I see the twisted faces
And I feel the rending spear.

Perhaps I stabbed our Savior
In His sacred helpless side.
Yet, I've called His name in blessing
When after times I died.

In the dimness of the shadows
Where we hairy heathens warred,
I can taste in thought the lifeblood;
We used teeth before the sword.

While in later clearer vision
I can sense the coppery sweat,
Feel the pikes grow wet and slippery
When our Phalanx, Cyrus met.

Hear the rattle of the harness
Where the Persian darts bounced clear,
See their chariots wheel in panic
From the Hoplite's leveled spear.

See the goal grow monthly longer,
Reaching for the walls of Tyre.
Hear the crash of tons of granite,
Smell the quenchless eastern fire.

Still more clearly as a Roman,
Can I see the Legion close,
As our third rank moved in forward
And the short sword found our foes.

Once again I feel the anguish
Of that blistering treeless plain
When the Parthian showered death bolts,
And our discipline was in vain.

I remember all the suffering
Of those arrows in my neck.
Yet, I stabbed a grinning savage
As I died upon my back.

Once again I smell the heat sparks
When my Flemish plate gave way
And the lance ripped through my entrails
As on Crecy's field I lay.

In the windless, blinding stillness
Of the glittering tropic sea
I can see the bubbles rising
Where we set the captives free.

Midst the spume of half a tempest
I have heard the bulwarks go
When the crashing, point blank round shot
Sent destruction to our foe.

I have fought with gun and cutlass
On the red and slippery deck
With all Hell aflame within me
And a rope around my neck.

And still later as a General
Have I galloped with Murat
When we laughed at death and numbers
Trusting in the Emperor's Star.

Till at last our star faded,
And we shouted to our doom
Where the sunken road of Ohein
Closed us in it's quivering gloom.

So but now with Tanks a'clatter
Have I waddled on the foe
Belching death at twenty paces,
By the star shell's ghastly glow.

So as through a glass, and darkly
The age long strife I see
Where I fought in many guises,
Many names, but always me.

And I see not in my blindness
What the objects were I wrought,
But as God rules o'er our bickerings
It was through His will I fought.

So forever in the future,
Shall I battle as of yore,
Dying to be born a fighter,
But to die again, once more.

Through a Glass Darkly,
Gen. George S. Patton III

Wow-this is my favorite thread here-I have been awake slightly over 24 hours-doing various things and on the computer a lot of it. I am still trying to find the image you mentioned here and there-no luck yet. I will probably be awake at least 4 more hours, so I will just crash and sleep through the night-I am trying to clean house and do web stuff-still no luck with multiple images-if I wasn't getting a bit tired I would go to one of the sites Penguin mentioned-maybe I still will-there is no excuse for me not to have learned some of this long ago even though I didn't use I didn't use it for work stuff-one of the blokes at my old job would have been happy to show me how to do more. Thanks so much for all of your help!
My connection was iffy for a bit ,but if it holds I will come back with an image or good words-poetry-oh before I go for a minute-prob be back-one of the books for you if there ever was an RI summit (cool name-reminds me of detente) is called House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski-ever heard of it? Perelandra's was a collection by Whitman-thought of other stuff to go with-wish I had more art books! Traded in a lot over the years-foolish of me!

I just clicked on your multi image post attempt in order to see what your code looked like (maybe i could be of assistance?), and you must have deleted it just as I attempted to quote it because I got a weird message.

"can only reply to posts on this forum"

whatever the hell that means.
