FBI off the hook in wreck of Ferrari
ED WHITE
11/10/2011

A federal judge in Detroit has dismissed a lawsuit against the US government over the wreck of a US$750,000 (NZ$950,000) Ferrari driven by an FBI agent.

Judge Avern Cohn said in his recent decision that the crash of the 1995 F50 sports car was "certainly unfortunate," but cited a law making the government immune to lawsuits when property is in custody of law enforcement.

Michigan-based Motors Insurance believes an agent and a federal prosecutor were out for a joyride in Lexington, Kentucky, in 2009 when the agent lost control of the Ferrari. The government has refused to pay for the car, which had been stolen and was being kept as part of an investigation.

Calif. Governor Veto Allows Warrantless Cellphone Searches

By David Kravets
October 10, 2011

California Gov. Jerry Brown is vetoing legislation requiring police to obtain a court warrant to search the mobile phones of suspects at the time of any arrest.

The Sunday veto means that when police arrest anybody in the Golden State, they may search that person’s mobile phone — which in the digital age likely means the contents of persons’ e-mail, call records, text messages, photos, banking activity, cloud-storage services, and even where the phone has traveled.

Police across the country are given wide latitude to search persons incident to an arrest based on the premise of officer safety. Now the nation’s states are beginning to grapple with the warrantless searches of mobile phones done at the time of an arrest.

Brown’s veto message abdicated responsibility for protecting the rights of Californians and ignored calls from civil liberties groups and this publication to sign the bill — saying only that the issue is too complicated for him to make a decision about. He cites a recent California Supreme Court decision upholding the warrantless searches of people incident to an arrest. In his brief message, he also doesn’t say whether it’s a good idea or not.

Spanish MP to sue FBI for using his face in al-Qaida 'most wanted' photos

Gaspar Llamazares's image was used for computerised mock-ups of Osama bin Laden and another al-Qaida leader

Spanish MP to sue FBI for using his face in al-Qaida 'most wanted' photos

First the FBI used his face to represent Osama bin Laden on a "most wanted" poster. Then they doctored his image again to make him look like another senior al-Qaida leader.

Now the Spanish MP Gaspar Llamazares has had enough and says he plans to sue the FBI, after pointing out that both men ended up dead.

Llamazares said he was unhappy with the apologies he received after his face was used as the basis for a computerised mock-up of how Osama bin Laden might have looked several months before he was killed in Pakistan in May.

The deputy for the leftwing United Left party said his photograph was also used to create a "most wanted" poster for another senior al-Qaida leader, Atiyah Abd al-Rahman, who was killed in Pakistan in August.

German Minister Wants Investigation of State Authorities’ Use of Spyware

By Kim Zetter Email Author
October 11, 2011 |

Germany’s justice minister has called for an investigation after authorities in at least four German states acknowledged using computer spyware to conduct surveillance on citizens.

Authorities in the state of Bavaria admitted on Monday that a piece of spyware discovered on a citizen’s computer by the local Chaos Computer Club hacker group was designed for use by authorities to spy on suspects.

Under German law, authorities can use spyware to monitor criminals, but its use is supposed to be limited to the interception of internet telephony.

The so-called R2D2 keylogging Trojan CCC examined, however, does much more than this. In addition to monitoring Skype calls and recording keystrokes to monitor e-mail and instant messaging communications, the Trojan can take screenshots and activate a computer’s microphone and webcam to allow someone to remotely spy on activities in a room. Furthermore, the program includes a backdoor that would allow authorities to remotely update the program with additional functionality.

“The analysis concludes, that the trojan’s developers never even tried to put in technical safeguards to make sure the malware can exclusively be used for wiretapping internet telephony, as set forth by the constitution court,” CCC wrote on its web site. “On the contrary, the design included functionality to clandestinely add more components over the network right from the start, making it a bridge-head to further infiltrate the computer.”

The backdoor contains several security vulnerabilities that makes any system on which the spyware is installed potentially vulnerable to takeover by other parties who could commandeer the spyware for their own purposes. Commands sent to the Trojan are not encrypted, and the spyware requires no authentication between the Trojan and the system communicating with it, meaning that anyone could take remote control of the spyware to spy on a user, plant evidence on his machine or even impersonate a law enforcement Trojan to communicate with law enforcement systems.

I wanted revenge from Headley, says his ex-wife Faiza Outalha
David HeadleyDavid Headley
26/11 Mumbai teror attacks mastermind David Headley.

Faiza Outalha -- former wife of David Coleman Headley, the Pakistani-American who masterminded the 26/11 terror attack on Mumbai -- on Tuesday told Headlines Today that she was unaware of his credentials when she started a relationship with him in 2007, more than a year ago the Indian city was targeted by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists.

In an exclusive interview to Headlines Today executive editor Rahul Kanwal and editor (investigations) Harinder Baweja, Faiza -- a young Moroccan who became Headley's third wife -- said that she had approached the embassy of United States as she "wanted revenge and wanted to get back at the person (Headley, who has been charged by an American court with conducting surveillance for the 26/11 attacks) who betrayed" her.

EXCERPTS:

Headlines Today: Tell us about relationship with David Headley. How did you meet and marry him?

Faiza Outalha: I went to Pakistan to study medicine. One day, when I decided I wanted to go back home to my country, I just went to a family that I knew in Lahore. And over there I met David Headley. We just met and it was that eye-to-eye thing. We fell in love. It all happened in one day. We started talking marriage the next day. And we decided to get married within a week. This was in February 2007. It was love at first sight.

Headlines Today: You took several pictures of the Taj Hotel. These pictures were used by terrorists for their training. Describe your honeymoon in Mumbai and did you know what Headley was up to?

Faiza: When I married him, I just knew he was a businessman or a property dealer. He did not have much money and had to work hard. He told me he works in an immigration office with some friends in Mumbai. So he travelled a lot. He would travel to Pakistan, Dubai and USA sometimes. He said he had business over there. I was just a housewife and I did not bother much. He called me to Mumbai and sent me a ticket for our honeymoon. It was for a week. I took a lot of pictures just like any other tourist couple. In fact, I didn't even have a camera, so I took pictures with my mobile phone. He had a camera that didn't work.

Headlines Today: During your relationship with David, did you figure out that something was suspicious?

Faiza: When I met him, I knew this guy is something. He was an intelligent and handsome man. Any other woman would have loved him and fallen for him, not only me. He was the right man for a lot of girls. Initially, I didn't think anything. But when he divorced me, I started asking people about him. Then I heard he was Asian, was a drug dealer and into arms smuggling. A lot of people told me different things. I heard he fell into some Islamic groups and that he is an American agent and not a Muslim. Then I started analysing his personality. Unfortunately after the divorce, once I tried to talk to him. He sent me a letter to go to court. I am a vulnerable woman and could not go to courts. I tried to talk to him that please don't do this to me. I told him a week ago you were in love with me and missing me, what happened? A lot of people were pushing me to go to FBI. There I was hit by a guard and so I filed a case.

Headlines Today: How did you discover that David Headley had links with the Lashkar? We also know that you approached the FBI and the US embassy officials in Islamabad.

Headlines Today: Why did you want to meet Hafiz Saeed specifically?

Faiza: I didn't know who Haifz Saeed was. I just wanted to meet scholars. It is just a co-incidence that I met Saeed. I wanted some people to help me out with my life. I was hearing that some friends that David knew visited that mosque. I just wanted to find some scholars or people to take my side.

Headlines Today: When you went to the American embassy they did not listen to you. Is it because David Headley was a double agent?

Faiza: I went to these people trying to fight a case over one individual. I discovered they had a file about him. So they knew about him. The way they reacted to me, it told me immediately that this man has something to do with them. They defended him and this man there; he even wanted to hit me... I don't even know FBI or who they are. I didn't even know what a double agent is. They started making fun of me. They asked me a lot of questions about why I thought he was a criminal. I told him this guy divorced me and I need help because I want to go to my country. At the end, they didn't do anything. They said give the numbers and contacts so they will check him out. Next day they called and said they tried to locate this person but he did not want to talk.

Headlines Today: You were with David Headley when attacks took place. Was he monitoring the attacks on TV as they unfolded?

Faiza: He was with me. He didn't act like he was the mastermind or something. He was calm and quiet. I was shaken and so paranoid. I find out that he went to India quite a few times and travelled to US quite a few times after the attacks. He kept on travelling.

Headlines Today: Did he seem happy after the attack? Did he betray any emotion?

Faiza: He is a multiple-personality person. He is very trained from childhood. He is an American soldier. He was in Pakistani army. So it is hard to read his emotions. If he shows emotion, it has a message behind it. If he laughs, it's not just the laughter, but the message behind it.

Headlines Today: Did you ask him specifically, if he had a role in those attacks?

Faiza: When it happened, I just kept quiet. After about three days, I started talking about going back. I tried to keep myself away from all this because I understand that a lot of things were going on. Three countries were involved in it. I was nobody to talk.

Headlines Today: How has life changed for you since the Mumbai attack? What kind of life are you leading now?

Faiza: No I am not in touch with him. I am only talking to him through my lawyer. I finally asked for a divorce a year ago. I was just an innocent Muslim girl and my life is now upside down. He tortured my life.

Headlines Today: Agencies in India believe that you were a courier for David Headley..

Faiza: They are wasting time thinking like that. David sold himself for money; He was into drugs and an arms smuggler. He was a complex personality like 007 or James Bond. But I am nobody. You need to deal with the real people.

Headlines Today: Who are the real people?

Faiza: I can't say personally, you need to let me talk to governments of Pakistan, India and America.

Headlines Today: Are you willing to cooperate with investigations? Will you come to India to be part of the probe?

Faiza: Through all these interviews I am trying to tell them something. Face-to-face talking to NIA is dangerous for me. There are a lot of countries involved and I can't answer that like this.

Headlines Today: What about David's connection with ISI? Can you tell us more about Abdur Rahman Pasha's and ISI's connection? He was your guardian in Lahore?

Faiza: I don't know. I read that he was a retired major and has an immigration office in Lahore. He was like a guardian. Sometimes his wife used to visit me. They are not like close friends or something. If I say I need to go to hospital, they pick me up after few hours not immediately.

Headlines Today: Do you think the US is genuine in its attempts to prosecute Headley or are they still cosy because he was a double agent?

Faiza: At the end of the day David is a US citizen. So he was never anti-American so whatever he does will be within the rules of USA. He would never cross that line.

Headlines Today: Your husband was responsible for the death of over 200 Indians. What would you like to say to them?

Faiza: I am sorry. I could be one of you. I enjoy going to cafes. I am a person that likes to go to places. I am like one of you. I don't want any innocents killed. I feel sorry for them. I hope this happens to anyone else. I don't know what to tell them except, make peace with those around you. Don't let any third party interfere in your affair.

Former FBI agent and wife are indicted in alleged investment scam
By Del Quentin Wilber

A former FBI agent and his wife have been charged in what authorities say is a $1.3 million investment fraud scheme.

John R. Graves, 52, and his wife, Sara T. Graves, 44, of Fredericksburg, were indicted by a federal grand jury in Richmond on charges of mail and wire fraud. Prosecutors say Graves, who left the FBI in 1999, is a certified investment planner.

Through his company, Brook Point Management, Graves sold insurance, performed estate and tax planning services and recruited investment clients.

Two daughters of former state and federal law enforcement official Edward Rodgers were awarded $2.319,400 yesterday, after a Denver judge and jury found that the women suffered years of abuse at the hands of their father.

The award to Sharon Simone, 45, and Susan Hammond, 44, followed testimony of Rodgers’ four daughters in person or through depositions, describing repeated physical abuse and sexual assaults by their father from 1944 through 1965.

Rodgers, 72, who became a child abuse expert after retiring from the FBI and joining the colorado Springs DA’s office, failed to appear for the trial. But in a deposition taken in March, Rodgers denied ever hitting or sexually abusing his children.

FBI’s DNA database upgrade plans come under fire
By Paul Rincon Science editor, BBC News website
DNA swab A cheek swab provides the DNA needed for the test

A major upgrade of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) DNA database system has come under fire from members of the forensic science community.

The Codis system is used to generate the genetic profiles stored in the US national DNA database.

The FBI wants to expand the number of genetic markers used by Codis to classify individual DNA profiles.

But a former science chief at the bureau says the plan is not being driven by scientists' needs.

Dr Bruce Budowle, along with colleagues Arthur Eisenberg and Jianye Ge, outlined the objections at the Promega 22nd International Symposium on Human Identification (ISHI) in Maryland, US.

Another scientist told BBC News the changes were vitally important because they would set down how DNA profiles were recorded in the United States for perhaps "the next 20 years".

While working at the FBI in the 1990s, Dr Budowle helped choose the genetic markers currently used by Codis.
Consultation gap

He says the review is a good idea, but that choosing the right markers for forensic casework is crucial.
“Start Quote

If you have degraded samples and you don't get it, it's useless”

Bruce Budowle

He told BBC News the FBI did not sufficiently consult with the forensic science community before making its recommendations.

"The first time around we took a community-wide approach - 21 laboratories rolling up their sleeves and generating data we could analyse and [use to] make decisions," explained Dr Budowle, from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth.

"This time around, they formed a working group of around five [scientists] and an FBI person to decide what the core set should be.

"Should the needs of Codis - our national database system - drive the casework processes, or should the needs of casework drive the Codis processes?

"I would hope the latter is obviously what should be done."
High profile

The US national database - the largest in the world - currently contains about 10 million offender profiles and has assisted in more than 141,000 investigations.

Codis (which stands for COmbined DNA Index System ) uses a set of 13 genetic markers - known as the "core loci" - to generate individual DNA profiles.
FBI seal The FBI's Codis database is the world's biggest

In May 2010, the FBI established a six-strong working group to review the core loci used for database searches. It has now recommended the current set of 13 markers be increased to 24.

The importance of these markers was demonstrated in the case of a British man arrested in 1999. His DNA profile matched that collected in a burglary when compared at six genetic loci.

The suspect spent several months in jail before his lawyer demanded a 10-marker re-test. The suspect differed from the burglary suspect at one of the four additional markers and was set free.

While the probabilities of such chance matches between unrelated individuals are relatively small, they increase as DNA databases grow in size.

In addition, some genetic markers are better for certain tasks than others, said Dr Budowle, who pointed to what he said were inconsistencies in the selection process for the core loci.

Dr Budowle said some of the markers used in the new and old Codis schemes comprised such large fragments of DNA that they can be difficult for forensic scientists to detect in crime scene DNA - which can be prone to degradation, or may only be present in small amounts.

Even if large fragment markers are informative, Dr Budowle said, "if you have degraded samples and you don't get it, it's useless".

He added: "The analysts [in my lab] come to me all the time with difficult cases. They say of the large-fragment ones: 'Get rid of them because they don't give results'."

He also said the new scheme passed over informative markers on the Y (male) chromosome which would be useful for familial searching - a technique used when scientists cannot find an exact match for a sample in a DNA database.

Familial searching relies instead on finding close, but not perfect, matches that might represent close relatives of a suspect.
Loci difficulty

A spokesperson for the FBI Laboratory declined to comment directly on Dr Budowle's presentation.

However, Dr Douglas R Hares, from the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, Virginia, who chairs the Codis expansion working group, recently outlined the bureau's recommendations in the journal Forensic Science International: Genetics.
Forensic scientist Genetic markers need to be carefully chosen depending on the task in hand

The changes are intended to increase the power to discriminate between individual profiles and to reduce the likelihood of chance matches.

The bureau also wants to increase compatibility with international databases to enable cross-border information sharing - of increasing importance in counter-terrorism.

Dr Hares said the working group had set out objective criteria for the acceptance of any new markers, and had consulted with the makers of DNA analysis kits.

However, Dr Budowle urged the FBI to carry out more research on the performance of different markers in past forensic investigations before settling on a new set.

He explained: "If we do the homework and the data supports that these were the best [markers], that's great. If it doesn't support it and we come up with a better set of markers, that's equally great.

"Reach out, get a lot of viewpoints, talk to people who have a lot of experience. Don't limit yourself."

Dr Greg Hampikian, a forensic DNA specialist from Boise State University, told BBC News: "Bruce has raised specific, substantive, scientific issues about the choice of the new loci.

"His point is not that these are bad, but there are better ones available - specifically, ones with more power to tell the difference between individuals, and more likelihood of detection in degraded samples (since they would detect smaller pieces or DNA)."

Dr Hampikian also backed the inclusion of informative Y chromosome markers, particularly in cases involving familial relationships and sexual assaults. Y chromosome markers have to be analysed separately at present, and he said this could result in critical lost time in investigations.

Some researchers are concerned about the absence of a timeline for upgrading the NDAD, and that, without it, the UK risks falling well behind the rest of Europe.

WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) - The FBI had two armed robbery suspects under surveillance in Ravenna before last Thursday's bank robbery -- the robbery that led to a chase that killed a police officer and ended with a deadly shootout, police told Target 8.

The question now is: Exactly when?

When Target 8 asked Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler Monday morning whether he'd heard that FBI agents were conducting surveillance of the suspects on the day of the robbery, he responded: "That's the information I have."

Re: FBI WATCH MAKING CRUELTY VISIBLE

As some of you already know Clint Eastwood is coming out with his new movie next month about J Edgar Hoover. Here is my critique to a story today about the movie
see below for news story

C'mon folks. The real story here is whether Hoover was a pedophile. The FRONTLINE interview with Mrs. Rosensteil should be viewed by every voter and taxpayer in America. I have viewed the documentary SECRET AND CONFIDENTIAL:THE SECRET LIFE OF J EDGAR HOOVER several times. It is crystal clear when Mrs. Rosensteil says
she viewed Hoover having sex with two young boys! Not two young men, not two young teenagers but two young boys. Hoover was a pedophile.
Here is another source with the link.

Perhaps Summers' most bizarre revelation is an account provided by Susan Rosenstiel, the wife of a liquor distiller and gambling crony. Rosenstiel recalls attending what she thought would be an elegant private party at New York City's Plaza Hotel in the company of lawyer Roy Cohn, Hoover and others. Instead, Cohn introduced Rosenstiel to a woman named "Mary," dressed in a fluffy black dress, lace stockings and high heels. It was obvious Mary was no woman. "You could see where he shaved. It was Hoover," said Rosenstiel. Joined by Cohn, Hoover stripped down to a tiny garter belt and proceeded to have sex with two young boys. Cohn later joked about the evening. "That was really something, wasn't it, with Mary Hoover?"

Gay Rights Advocates Weigh in on Upcomig J. Edgar Hoover Film that Portrays Him as Gay
By Danny Fenster
ticklethewire.com

There has been an avalanche of opinions voiced by ex-FBI agents and current ones over the upcoming film “J Edgar” and his portrayal as being gay. Now, some Gay rights advocates are weighing in.

“I don’t know specifically why current officers object to the claim that Hoover was gay,” Jacob Appel, a New York-based lawyer that has written and advocated for gay and lesbian rights, told ticklethewire.com. “If their concern is solely for historical accuracy, and they don’t feel there is evidence to support that claim, then that’s certainly a reasonable position.”

“On the other hand, if these individuals actually believe that being gay would somehow tarnish Hoover’s image–and I sincerely hope that no one in the FBI holds such deeply misguided views today–then their positions would reflect the sort of bigotry and ignorance that have no place in civilized society,” said Appel.

Clint Eastwood is producing the film and Leonard DiCaprio is playing the legendary Hoover. The film, scheduled for general release on Nov. 11, reportedly portrays Hoover as having a romantic relationship with Clyde Tolson, his number two man in the bureau.

Some agents, and particularly some retired agents who still idolize Hoover, credit him with building a world-class law enforcement agency, and have expressed concern about his portrayal as being gay.

Many say there’s no evidence that Hoover was gay. Instead, they argue that he was married to the job and that he was essentially asexual.

“I find it interesting that Hollywood has no proof of Hoover being a homosexual, a story that was sparked by a discredited author,” former FBI official Anthony Riggio recently wrote in a column for ticklethewire.com. “Yet it tickled the media’s fancy and now the media can’t get over it, and every chance they get, they herald this unfounded suspicion.”

Then again, there are some FBI agents today who simply could care less.

Eastwood has caught some flack for the portrayal, but defends the film.

“It’s not a movie about two gay guys,” Eastwood told GQ. “It’s a movie about how this guy manipulated everybody around him and managed to stay on through nine presidents. I mean, I don’t give a crap if he was gay or not.”

DiCaprio says he’s not sure of Hoover’s sexual orientation.

“If I were a betting man, I actually don’t know what I would bet,” he told GQ.

Some gay rights advocates concerns are not just over the negative reactions from some FBI and former FBI agents, but of Hoover himself.

Rod Hearne, the Executive Director of the Seattle-based Equal Rights Washington, comments:

“In 2011 it’s hard to imagine that two such powerful, unmarried, near-constant companions as J Edgar Hoover and Clyde Tolson would be seen as anything but gay.

“If the FBI and J Edgar Hoover’s friends and associates resist the notion that the blackmailing, extorting, empire-building, racist, homophobic man was gay, fine, whatever they wish to think. The straights can have him.”

Author Ronald Kessler, who penned the book “The Secrets of the FBI”, wrote in an article on the website Newsmax: ”Hoover and Tolson, both bachelors, were inseparable. They ate lunch together every day and dinner together almost every night. They vacationed together, staying in adjoining rooms, and they took adoring photos of each other.”

The relationship with Tolson, he wrote, “points to Hoover’s being gay. Most telling, when Hoover’s will was probated, Tolson received his estate estimated at $560,000 … the equivalent of $2.9 million today. The bequest to Tolson was the final word on the closeness of their relationship and another indicator that Hoover was gay.” Kessler called the movie’s portrayal of their relationship a “legitimate dramatization.”

Appel, the New York lawyer, says if there is evidence that Hoover was gay, or for that matter, a cross dresser as some have suggested, it would be a matter of “public historical interest…especially in light of his fierce and nearly monomaniacal persecution of gays and lesbians throughout his career.”

Bit what is far more important, he said, is “to remember the shameful legacy that Mr. Hoover left this country with in regard to his persistent hounding of ethnic, sexual and ideological minorities … Mr. Hoover squandered tax-payer dollars in a bizarre and longstanding effort to expose the supposed (and extraordinarily unlikely) homosexuality of Adlai Stevenson, one of our nation’s great statesmen and patriots.”

Appel called Hoover a “divisive and destructive figure, whether or not he slept with Clyde Tolson.”

But not all the gay rights advocates have such pointed views.

Christian Berle, the Executive Director at Log Cabin Republicans, which works within the Republican party and advocates for gay and lesbian rights, was far more cautious in his statement to ticklethewire.com:

“Speculation as to J. Edgar Hoover’s sexuality has a long history, and it is natural that Clint Eastwood might want to explore that angle in this film. At the same time, it is understandable that members of the FBI and those who value his memory would be concerned that Hoover’s story be treated with respect and dignity. Whatever Hoover’s orientation may have been, the world today is a much different place than when he was at the helm of the FBI, and Americans can be proud that today’s FBI has a solid record of nondiscrimination.”

Documents Show FBI Targeted Communities Based On Race, Ethnicity

Ryan J. Reilly October 20, 2011, 5:11 PM 956 5

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) just released a massive trove of FBI documents indicating that anti-Muslim training materials have spread pretty far and wide within the bureau over the past several years and that analysts have been targeting areas based on racial and ethnic demographics.

It’s all part of the ACLU’s new “Mapping the FBI” initiative, which “aims to expose misconduct and abuse of authority by the bureau.” They say the documents show that the FBI “has been targeting American communities for investigation based on race, ethnicity, national origin and religion” and that analysts “across the country are associating criminal behaviors with certain racial and ethnic groups and then using U.S. census data and other demographic information to map where those communities are located to investigate them.”

The FBI said in a statement that they join the ACLU in opposing racial or ethnic discrimination and said the Attorney General Guidelines and the FBI’s Domestic Investigations and Operations Guide (DIOG) “clearly prohibit the predication of investigative activity solely on the exercise of First Amendment rights, including freedom of religion, or on race or ethnicity.” Civil rights advocates want those guidelines updated, but the FBI defended taking demographics into account.

Congressional Republicans Ask FBI Director to Definitively Say Whether Fast and Furious Gun Killed Border Agent

In a letter to FBI director Robert Mueller today, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., and the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, tried to get a definitive answer as to whether or not any of the guns from the Fast & Furious program killed Border agent Brian Terry, and to explain why there have been inconsistent stories about Terry’s death.

You can read the letter here.

“As you know, two weapons recovered at the scene of Agent Terry’s murder have been traced to Fast and Furious,” the GOP lawmakers wrote. “Yet the FBI has released very little information about the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. Anonymous Justice Department sources initially told the press that the two Fast and Furious guns had been ballistically excluded as the murder weapon and that the murder weapon had not been recovered. However, we obtained a copy of the report, and in actuality, it does not exclude the Fast and Furious guns. Rather, it is inconclusive. So, apparently someone from the Justice Department attempted to deceive the press.”

Today, Bob Long says that if Bulger and Flemmi had not been protected by the FBI, “then these nine murders would have never taken place: Louis Litif, Brian Halloran, Michael Donahue, Arthur “Bucky” Barrett, Debra Davis, Deborah Hussey, John McIntyre, Roger Wheeler, and John Callahan.” Long said he believes that Agents Morris and Connolly identified more than a dozen individuals to Bulger and Flemmi as FBI informants or could-be FBI informants and all of those people were killed. Connolly is now in prison; Morris received a grant of immunity for testimony.
