Re: Interesting perspective on DID **** Very Triggering to some*

I didn't find it triggering, and I kind of liked it. I've always had a vision of how to portray DID on film and this is not far off. My own involves animation over live action rather than straight live action. I have to say, I did not like that he is shown first in a padded room in a hospital, that is very inaccurate and stigmatizing. As someone in the comments noted, the great majority of us are not institutionalized.

It's really too bad that the sensationalized treatments have proliferated because a genuine and respectful portrayal of DID on film could go very far in raising awareness and sensitivity. There are some beautiful moments that could be captured. Sometimes I wish I could type fast enough to make transcripts of internal exchanges, there can be complex relationships between parts. I try to show this in my artwork.

I did like the film, did I say that?

I liked it too.

I wish I could capture some of the beautiful moments as well. Tragic, yet beautiful.

Not just the word exchanges but when one part shows another part something they want them to see and they show them a "movie like" deal of something that took place earlier in my life that the newer part is not aware of. Kind of like when a new very young part thinks all love is sex and wants to be sexual with my therapist. Another part will show the three year old part a glimpse of what talk love is like and how love has been passed from therapist to me in words. The three year old did not get it until she saw the clips from the past.

As long as we're talking DID, I want to direct attention to fairly new sources.

One is a book by a survivor of extreme trauma. The other is a blog by a once well known author Mathew Branton who disappeared for awhile. Upon his re-emergence he came out as having DID and now writes about that experience. I think these two are great examples of how intelligent and gifted multies are.

That reminds me, I am way overdue on updating this place.
