in North America at least every mainstream and off mainstream portrayal of sex has become so exploitative and so violent towards women that I truly feel frightened for girls growing up today who have probably literally never heard the term "make love" let alone whose boyfriends have probably never seen a single example of a loving sexual encounter.

I pray that they are being subversive and getting their true-love-includes emotions-and-respect fixes under their covers with flashlights.

Caitlin Flanagan (occasionally persuasive social conservative) says girls are getting their fix from Twilight and other genres that depict romantic, eternal, more courtly love.

And a mother-of-girls tells me that the bright ones with a degree of self-esteem can quite easily domesticate the boys they want by offering a haven of ideas, aesthetics and finer things... because the boys with soul are really lost and scared out there too.

I can see that. I have a 17 year old beauty myself. :)
That being said I really hope that more young males are finding themselves sneaking peeks at the twilight movies, too. They're the ones with the sexual power (ie they are the ones that can force whatever they want to happen to happen). So I'd like to believe that they secretly long for romance, too. Now that it's seemingly contraband....
