I don't think chewing tobacco is that much of an improvement over smoking. Besides, smoking makes you look way cool.

But if that's what you want, more power to you. As long as you don't pester smokers like me with that 'born-again' fervor.

Truly sorry about your bronchitis, lbo. Am very glad you're feeling better.

Bronchitis is awful! Hope you feel better soon.

I quit smoking when I got sick as well. I was so blitzed out from pain pills and the infection I pretty much forgot to smoke. It worked like a charm.
I am glad I don't smoke anymore.

My friend uses a nicotine inhaler he ordered online. He hasn't had much luck quitting, however. I wonder if the inhalers aren't too much like smoking to really be of help.

Nicotine gum isn't chewing tobacco. Plus its pretty temporary. The last time I quit for a year, I started out by chewing the gum for about 3 weeks. That's my plan for now.

I bet you look way cool with a cigarette dangling from your lips, ATK.

Well, 'dangling' is a good way to get crow's feet. Besides, the smoke goes straight up your nose. I prefer to stare into space with a cigarette between my fingers, taking contemplative puffs and blowing the smoke out in a long, slow exhalation. I do my best thinking and listening that way.

You know what I find hilarious? Out of the blue, people I've known for years will look at me with a surprised look on their face and say, "I didn't know you smoke!?"

It's an amazing confirmation of how cognitive dissonance distorts perception. I strike people as "the healthy type", so even if I smoke in front of them, it doesn't compute. It really makes me wonder what else we block out because it doesn't fit our stereotypes. Scary thought.

I realized today that Dayquil Mucous Control liquid (what a yummy name!) tastes like this: Take a shot of jaegermeister and mix in about an inch of Crest toothpaste. Blend. Swallow. Try not to gag.

Anyone else have this extreme exhaustion following a bad cold and/or bronchitis? I don't have the flu and my head is largely cleared up but after 5 days of mostly sleeping, I am so sloggish I can barely cook for Thanksgiving. Perhaps related to quitting smoking at the same time?

I find after a bad cold, I feel pretty drained. And you were saying you had Bronchitis, so I imagine naturally you would be pretty pooped. Your body is probably needing to recoup, hence the sleeping a lot, but I'm sure you already know that :)

Do you have family or friends that can help with the cooking? Maybe delegate to them a bit, I'm sure they would be understanding, considering.

Hell, today my arms got tired just mashing the potatoes for thanksgiving.

Pretty pathetic!

I blame the Dayquil.

Or it could be that Jager/fluoride toothpaste concoction of yours! Don't drink that Nordic, that'll for sure make ya ill. Try Tequila with fresh squeezed lemon/lime juice. My ex husband used to swear by that. Tastes terrible but it worked for him. :D

(on a side note, a whole head of roasted garlic & chopped chives in mashed spuds is delish)

I used to like the tequila remedy, but the trouble is, I likes me the tequila a little too much. Next thing I know I'm out spending money or getting in some kind of trouble. (sigh .... getting older and responsible sucks in some ways).

I remember when I was really young, one time my buddy and I (roommtes) came down with colds, and we bought a case of Coors light and a bunch of lemons. Somehow that mixture, and a lot of it, just cleaned the cold right out of us. The next day felt great. Course, I was only about 24 or so.

A month ago. Don't think it was that. And I'm all cleared up now. I talked to a doc who thought my exhaustion after bronchitis was normal and probably just made a bit worse by the fucked-up air quality this week. Asthma + bad air on top of bronchitis = a wilted lightning Bug.

8 days, no smokes. Woo hoo.

If you smoke, please quit. I did 3 days ago, though I'm chewing nico gum.

May God help you with the smoking cessation--do NOT be afraid to consult a doctor for help with that. It's hellishly hard to do.

Chicken soup with plenty, plenty of garlic remains my remedy for such things. Besides, it's tasty.

Since you are likely home and out of commission, you may as well enjoy some whiskey, too. Rum is a good alternative.
The real issue is that there is extremely low likelihood that the speculations of the untrained, on a topic almost pathologically riddled by dynamic considerations and feedback effects, will offer anything new.

Nope. I probably take analgesics about twice a year, if that.
