But from what I hear this isn't happening--prices are still $400-$600 an ounce.

Most people don't know how to grow it. From what I understand it's not that easy.

Why prices are still so high is beyond me, but there are gas stations on every corner here, too, and gas is like $3.20 a gallon pretty much everywhere. :)

I also live in California, and don't smoke, but I understand that it's ridiculously easy to get a card. It does vary somewhat by county, though. There's a possibility that it will be legalized for all adults in the next few years.

Most people are not familiar with basic needs of plants. Its not all their fault though, we are usually brought up that way, at least the city dwellers.

It really is very simple and takes only basic intelligence, some diligence, and some basic information, freely available on the nets, or in most head shops for a small charge. After one or two grows, most people can easily do it.

Sure. But indoors?!

Yeah. All ya need is sodium lamps, some fans, and soil for the plants, plus the fertilizers.

And a way to make it nice and extremely dark! With timers on the lights. And something to deal with the smell and the intense heat that the lamps can generate.

This is from what I hear anyway ....

We were once amazed when a marijuana plant began growing from a crack in the carpet in the backseat of my brother's car. Someone must have dropped some seeds.

I think I saw that car for sale on Craigslist.

I suppose it depends on the definition of "hard" :)
I wouldn´t consider a timer and a room with no windows or covered windows all that difficult to do. Or a small closet with a fan installed to circulate the air.

The heat is not a problem if the room is sufficient in size and you do not use too powerful lights. Even a 250 watt sodium lamp is enough for one or two plants. You just get smaller plants with less light, but a 250 or even 400 w lamp will not cause much heat problems. And if one likes, one can use only fluorescent lamps that generate very little heat - but the efficient light amount will be less than with sodium etc. ones. Some enterprising people have also constructed LED grow lights - see http://flowerforcerled.blogspot.com/200 ... ights.html

The smell is also a variable issue - it depends a lot on the strain of the plant. There are many indicas that have a very mild smell, and some sativas that smell like rancid cat piss. Take your pick... ;) For milder smelling varieties, you don´t need to use active charcoal filters with a fan to remove the smell - but that can be done. If you have a room with a vent leading outside, there should be no problem with most.

From what I hear, anyway.

really? they sure aren't paying the growers anywhere near that...last I heard, good organic outdoor was going for $2200 #, top grade. Must be good to be a middle man....

and, while I"m on the subject, people really should boycott indoor...bad for the bud, bad for the environment...

Uh, well in a highly populated area, this actually is the problem! From what I hear. Don't want your neighbors smelling that beautiful (as I understand it) smell.

Carbon filters can be used as I understand. That's a whole nuther thing, and expense.

And as far as indoor growing goes, I would love to see a solar powered grow room.

There are lights now that literally pipe the light from the roof of the building down to any light indoors, using optical fibers. These should be in every office building in the world but probably won't be for quite some time.

Here's a link to one example:

I WANT these babies! BAD! Just for reading. You know.
