My dad exited this world on December 1. I found out a few days later, and spent the next several alternating between being sad, joyful, and relieved. Once the initial adjustment set in, I started sleeping like I haven't done in years. I feel more free, as if the world were a safer place.

I don't have to work until January 2, and maybe even the 6th if I'm lucky. Then all hell breaks loose again as I've curated my first show for Center on Contemporary Art, and the installation is that week. The work is definitely RI material, it's called Nightmare Inductions. The artists lead viewers into a trance state focusing on common nightmare themes. It is a little , but it's also an opportunity to educate about mind control.

For Xmas I'm going away to a place right on a tidal river which I can see from my bed, can't wait!

Happy Solstice! My reaction to the first part of your news above, PW, was an urge to applaud, though I know that's not exactly an enlightened response. I just wonder sometimes what this world would be like if the abusers all went POOF! at once and we found ourselves free of their shadow for the first time?

Glad you have holiday goodness to look forward to--you deserve it. I'm staying home this year and working outside, mostly, on my beloved (but never finished) shed and in my unkempt garden beds. Trying to start some pastel artwork and conditioning polyclay to make some dolls, too.

Thank you! I started early with friends at the IRL Saloon last night and the festivities went on until 4 am. Woohoo!

Had oyster stew at Elliott's for breakfast, ...now having ant-acids for dinner. It's been a great day!

Three weeks without a home computer! Auuughh!!

A crash knocked out my PC precisely at a very interesting Web-searching juncture. Now putting the pieces back together on an old borrowed machine.

The first few mornings with no computer, I didn't know what to do. What did I do before I had computers? I propped a magazine up against the computer monitor, where normally I would cast my gaze, reading (RI, mostly) and sipping coffee for an hour. I kept reaching for the mouse, finally had to put it out of reach behind the monitor.

After a couple of days I abandoned my "office" capsule and spent my mornings with books at the dining table. I could do quick personal e-mail checks at work, but had no time for any serious surfing. (did I just say "serious surfing"?)

After two weeks I noticed I was getting going earlier and working more hours and reading more books. I seriously considered not getting another home computer, but decided that I 'need' one for certain things.

My point is -- I need a drink: hot brandy please!

I love toast!

I like to eat toast with honey (pale), and with marmite (dark).

Eating this pair of slices helps me to transcend duality.

It's ritual toast.

It all started to go really strange for me when I found I could no longer tell whether I was joking or not.

I think it's kinda like wombat's post modern double bind irony.

And while I'm here, sorry again to everyone, especially poor old JD, sheesh, for my er breakdown thingy all over the board.

To be honest, I'm scared to look at what remains.

Sometimes I come across something I posted from that time.

I had been fasting over much and suffering from sleep deprivation, and other sources of psychological stress.

I was high up on that holy mountain, havin' a hard time findin' my way back down again.

I gotta toast y'all with something that don't contain alcohol. Had to give up drinking entirely last October. Long story with a surprise ending involving my pancreas. And a broken heart. But I'm here in the same spirit (guffaw) as the rest.

Re: asthma and cities--I agree they're an awful mix. But many of us find ourselves living in urban areas with no realistic way to relocate. In my neighborhood, the nasty black soot from the 580 freeway half a mile away drifts in even through closed windows in this old house perched on the side of a hill in Oakland, CA. Nothing much I can do about it, but I do now choose to take walks higher up in the hills where the air is much cleaner.

And I'll have a Bailey's plz.
