I Think I Have Swine Flu

Postby nathan28 » Wed Aug 19, 2009 7:56 pm

For the second time in four months. Got out of bed, made breakfast and started eating, felt a little sore, but thought it was just from exercising. Then the headache started, then the chills and fever and lethargy.

No couching or vomiting or GI stuff yet, but I am forcing myself to eat as much bacon grease and coconut oil, and good old whey protein, as possible to keep my immune system stimulated.

I may, however, kill my dog and eat him as well if he wants to play the "punch dad in the head game while he is sleeping" again.

Anyway, if this is the crap that PrisonPlanet claims is necessitating the gov't to build mass graves, this is some weak shit. I had something real similar a few months ago.

Other possible causes:

--overtraining from bicycling everywhere & not eating enough
--heat exhaustion from bicycling everywhere in 90 degree weather
--too much additional exercise
--Had to get a Dt vaccine for work/school

Anyone else got this?

Is the swine flu circulating in your area?

I'm not sure that you want to stimulate the immune system, if it is swine flu, although I have no idea what good bacon grease (YUK!) and coconut oil do. But this flu seems to be of more risk for those whose immune systems go into overdrive.

The OP ED almost never gets sick, but when it does, it gets very sick.

Most ailments are minor contextual complaints for me and what you're describing if it was me, would sound like:

and/or also dehydration.

In any case, and especially if its a case of overtraining -
chill the fuck out!

Seriously. Overtraining is really bad for you. I managed to get myself in rather poor shape one summer, swimming, weight training and biking really excessively. Developed a fever for a week or so, felt really weak, was unable to even eat well, felt nausea... It started with weight training on a very hot day, compunded by drinking too little and almost suffering a heat stroke. A car with AC and plenty of fluids probably saved me from a real stroke (it was so bad I almost fainted and had arrhythmia).

It took me a couple of months of laying back on the training (and 2 first weeks total rest and chilling out and sipping pure juices and some protein drinks) to feel well again...

And in case you would be sick, its even more important to take it easy and rest until you feel well.

I felt like that this morning, but I went on a rum drinking binge last night.

Seriously I was very dehydrated this morning. So I'm not just eing a smartarse.

Vaccinations sometimes cause reactions too.

nathan you're in NYC right? There is a nasty bug going around up there that a few of my friends have, but I haven't heard swine flu as of yet.

Yes, that. Beer in large quantities helps in some circumstances.
The real issue is that there is extremely low likelihood that the speculations of the untrained, on a topic almost pathologically riddled by dynamic considerations and feedback effects, will offer anything new.

Beer in lage quantities actually promotes dehydration.

Get your ass over here straightaway, Joe, and we shall discuss that over appropriate beverages.

Never, ever attempt to interact with "real life" in the cold heartless rinse of pure sobriety.

yeah right.

Crap, my throat is sore again.
I thought I was feeling better already, over a week sick, went to take care of some affairs on me bike, and had the cold sweats and my heart didn't feel like it liked it either.

Well, I think Ill have a glass of wine, then go buy some mate drinks - by bus, and come back home to chew on some medicine.

I'm laid up with the nastiest flu I ever knew in quite a while. This one's all about the aches and congestion, fever and chills. Not good times.

:x

I don't know if it is swine flu but it makes me feel worse than I have in a long time. And now I have to work for 3 days while feeling it, but I think the worse is done.

Fortunately I picked up Neil Gaimon's American Gods the day before at the thrift store, and found some escape. It's a really enchanting book.
