Any good tricks other than the usual gamut (water, alka seltzer, hair of dog, ibuprofen, etc).

I am a big fan of the Ukrainian favorite - drinking pickle juice. Also coconut water to replenish lost electrolytes.......

You're getting too old for heroic displays of resilience. Cancel your previously arranged commitments. Mope around. Console yourself with the thought that eventually you almost certainly will start to feel better. And tomorrow, in comparison, you'll feel like a spring lamb bouncing through the field.

What more could you ask for?

I avoid ethanol poisoning by not drinking ethanol, but that's just me being square.

My hard drinking days were many years ago, but when I lived my nights in bars and still had to function the next day, I had a sure fire method for getting going. Vigorous sex with a beautiful woman followed close on by a hot shower and a fat rail of crystal methamphetamine, and topped off with the donning of my favorite nicest clothes. It's hard to feel too bad when you look so good.

I know, I know... you're gonna say you can't or don't really wanna do some of those things, and I understand. I feel the same way, which is why I don't drink too much any mores. But I can pretty much guarantee that the regimen I have outlined above will make a dead man run, at least for about eight hours. After that, you may be on your own, but at least you're still well dressed.

If you have access to a hot tub and a lake: soak for ten minutes in the tub, then jump in the lake. The 50+ degree temperature differential will get your heart racing. Repeat five ot ten times until it feels like you are closing in on coronary, then do it just once more for kicks.

Short of that: eat sausages and eggs.

Actually I remember a friend of mine telling me he used an IV, and that eliminated the hangover almost instantly.

Of course, he was an EMT so he had access to the IV equipment.

Take vitamin C and water before bed. Have sausage, biscuits, eggs, and gravy for breakfast followed by a brisk walk. (Soy-sage is fine for you veggies). It should work like a charm.

Alternately, have an argument with a loved one, that always works for me.

Since age started diminishing my ability to cope with hangovers, I've tried to remember to put my finger down my throat and throw up everything in my stomach, then try to drink a litre of water, just before bed on a big night. It leaves you with less of a problem to deal with the next day. Plus you wake up hungry, which makes the time-tested greasy breakfast that much more delicious.
