Thirteen Suggested Rules of Investigation

1. Controversial subjects generate polarized responses

2. Record or write down everything as soon as possible, no matter how inconsequential or insignificant it might seem at the time.

3. Always credit your sources and respect requests for anonymity

4. Always be ready for anything, anytime. Look for coincidences when investigating claims of the unusual. Often, there may be a synchronistic element at work.

5. It is impossible to be too objective when scientifically investigating claims of the unusual.

6. Always assume a mundane explanation until proven extraordinary.

7. Appearances can be deceiving. There may be more happening than meets the eye.

8. If you publicize claims of the unusual, choose your words wisely, for your "spin" may have tremendous influence.

9. Media civerage of the unusual, because of its sensational nature, is often inaccurate and cannot be accepted as totally accurate by the investigator.

10. The human mind, when faced with the unknown, reverts to basic primal symbols to rationalize its experience.

11. When investigating claims of the unusual, one cannot reach conclusions based on intuition alone.

12. There is a possibility that the (sub)culture itself may co-create manifestations of unexplained, individually perceived phenomena.

13. No leading questions!

That list seems pertinent to a variety of situations. There's a lot at your site to check out. Great stuff.

Thanx 4 visiting. I formulated those suggested rules as I learned them--early on in my investigative process. ('93-'94) It would be nice if more people in the so-called "paranormal" investigative field were aware of them.

Sorry Chris, it's an inside joke kinda thing.

Uncle Hugh is our somewhat resident Manatee who happens to be decidedly Anti-W.O.O (Wonderment Occluding Objectivity). We are often berated by said Manatee for wasting our time discussing such things, especially Wooish concepts that might take away from his "thing" (Psy-ops, Keyword HiJacking, Disney is CIA for Kidz- you get the picture). Ultimately, most find his heart to be in the right place. However, in the opinion of many, his delivery and tact needs a bit of work. I'm not sure this place would be the same without him.

Nothing yet. That said, If you post it, he will come.

I think several of us would love to learn more about that project.

Living here in Austin, Texas I have been waiting and hoping for someone to emulate and escalate the scientific instrumented research effort of Ray Stanford's PSI (Project Starlight International) and Norway's Hessdalen research.

Your effort sounds like a fine start towards that.

BTW - always love your appearances on Greg's RADIO MISTERIOSO show.

Hi Chris, glad you're here. You provided the word, and I had a picture. I've not a clue of the origin of that shot and it might've been for an Internet ad. Who knows? But, after stumbling on it and obviously just for fun, I've kept the photo handy for weeks thinking there would come a time and place to put it. Like Cosmic Cowbell said, "it's an inside joke kinda thing." And I hope the joke hasn't been belabored too much by this addition.

Thanks for asking:
We have our first camera installed 140' up on a transmission tower at our main location at the center of the San Luis Valley. We recorded a 14 day test run and are working on a website that people can go to and see the live feed. The ISP has moved its network servers, so we are now forced to get our own DSL connection because they don't have enough bandwidth for us until they switch to a new provider in February. As soon as we get a dedicated connection we will put the live stream back up for viewing.
Also, in the meantime, we are gearing up for our second and third camera installations, and when they are up, we will conduct test runs and our tech-wiz is finishing up motion tracking and synchronization software development for the monitoring camera network. If I am able to post a video clip here at RI, I'll post a clip...
