URL's

I know its a real sensitive process, putting URLs into text, but for some reason, it works half of the time, and then the other half it craps out. Is this likely to be a problem with the address.

For example,

www. joeblogs.com/im-on-acid

Is the problem that this is technically speaking incorrectly written - and instead should be

http://www.joeblogs.com/im_on_acid ?

Or am I, in fact on acid?
