Interesting discussions

It can be a monologue or several people talking to each other. Either way, viewer be the judge.

I found this discussion fascinating, the attitudes, the postures, the positions. My favourite part: "animals can't have fun" just wait and see, this was before youtube, but not before human observation so even the brightest and best minds can be strangely seduced by the power of ideas which tickle a certain prejudice.

Among the participants:

Freeman Dyson, Stephen Jay Gould, Daniel Dennet, Oliver Sacks and Rupert Sheldrake.

An interesting discussion between a number of political insiders including British politicians, civil servants, intelligence agents and journalists. Interesting frictions emerge. 1 minute of filler at the beginning before the discussion begins.

Among the participants:

Tony Benn (Left wing Labour politician)
Eddie Chapman (Agent Zigzag)
Lord Dacre (Hugh Trevor-Roper)
Miles Copeland (Founder member CIA)
James Rusbridger (MI6, possibly suicided)

.

WOW to BOTH. I don't have six hours today! I can't believe either happened with these lineups. Especially the first is getting my attention over the days to come. (Missing there for the perfecto is Donna Haraway. Or, of course, any woman in either round. Who would be good for the second? Rigoberta Menchu? Naomi Klein would have been too young...)

THANK YOU.

You're welcome, that was my reaction too, and the motivation for this thread.

A meta discussion between the views of different scientists on separate subjects.

Palaeontologist and author Richard Fortey delivers a discussion of evolution in the context of a thoughtful critique of capitalism and establishes the moral and scientific case for pluralism.

Biologist Rupert Sheldrake on resonance patterns and the usefulness of analogue models of the world:

Paths to the Evolution of Consciousness by Peter Godfrey Smith, author of Other Minds.

Paul Stamets his lecture Psilocybin Mushrooms and the Mycology of Consciousness.

Compton Rom discussing Microbial intelligence:

Ed Yong, author of I Contain Multitudes.

:yay
Ha ha!

It blew my mind seeing that part of the discussion. It makes me sad that these distinguished men should at the same time have been so oddly sheltered as to profess that animals don't seem to enjoy themselves. Group think? If the best amongst us consider other life forms little more than empty automata, surely that points toward the root of our environmental problems.

This part is particularly interesting if you didn't get around to the whole thing. The part where Miles Copeland appears to admit that Pearl Harbour was a false flag: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... jwjWP1stgE

Or Dick Proenneke's wolverine...

(apologies for poor quality of the footage, it's all I could find - it doesn't show how many times the wolverine ran back up to do it again, tho the tracks on the snow give a hint... I think it's from 'Wilderness', which is about as far as you can get from the topic - sorry, Harvey!).
