Seeking advice re WTC "no plane" theories

Postby Jeff » Wed Jul 18, 2007 8:58 am

We haven't had much of that here - I think the only poster who suggested there might be something to it was dbd - so it hasn't really become an issue. But there's a new poster who's a fan of Judy Wood:

What do you think: should we allow the theory to stand or fall in the marketplace of ideas, or should we say that this is just too discrediting to be welcome here?

Myself, strangely enough, I was more inclined to ban it before it found an advocate. Now, I worry it might create an impression there's "something to it" because we're "afraid" of it. And I'm resistant to adding to a list of "forbidden" topics. Should we take a wait and see approach?

A lot of stuff gets posted here that the average, casual browser may find laughable. Truly ridiculous material is quickly revealed for what it is by our stable of highly informed posters. For a mod or admin to disallow subjects we might find to be beneath us (aside from such things as racism and advocating violence, which you have already properly banned) would smack of censorship, even to those who find the material not worth the bandwidth. Let it fall by it's own sword, as it's bound to do, and make your views known in the threads, as you do with CD.

Fwiw, I find this theory particularly pernicious within the scattershot "Truth" canon. It dismisses the entire population of NY, who saw and heard the planes. Are they all stupid, complicit, blind, deaf, and or gullible? It's just insulting.

I agree. That's too bizarre, even for the truthers.
