Wow, viewing numbers seem to really be up, I'm guessing due to the Theresa Duncan thread.

Been wondering if there needs to be some sort of "label warning" about the material here and the consideration of suicide. Cripes, not sure how to warn against it, and to also support those who are in legitimate danger.

chig, please clarify. Are you suggesting a warning label on RI in general, or the TD threads in specific?

Just a suggestion-perhaps a sticky, directing people in crisis to helpful resources, or something like that. Even a thread/sticky in the lounge for folks who need to vent on a personal basis?(I realize these suggestions may not be a good idea, as we are not professionals. Plus, some types might use such a thread to play some sick games.)

I think that's a really good idea. Project Willow will have good ones for abuse survivors.

I was speaking about the site in general. I think Project Willow would be an excellent source for advice.

See, here are my concerns about how to word it and what resources should be posted. Some people here will be vulnerable to these deep and disturbing subjects due to their own unrelated issues with depression, etc., some are victims of SRA and/or DID, and a couple are probably really, seriously disturbed. Would those who are resources for individuals suffering from SRA, for instance, want to be flooded with the entire group in need by having their resource listed? And, of course, for the DID individuals, the usual hot lines are quite impotent. And then, there are those with devious designs who might like to get a hook into the SRA help resources.

I have to say that I continue to have concerns about Jeff's hosting the Dragon site, which is actually what is being done by means of MaryK's posts on the Activism board. The risk is that the exceptionally vulnerable ones will gravitate there in the absence of anything else. I realize that no one can protect these people from themselves and their vulnerabilities, but I guess I hate to see that kind of con offered up on a plate to them.

Has anyone contacted PW yet? We should wait until we have her input, she will know how to word such a message.

Just posted this with PW's links:

Please post here any suggestions for improving it. Also, any good links for other conditions/states.

Hey, great! You might want to include something for those who are simply sensitive to the material but not RA victims themselves , say something like if the the material here is having a negative impact on your quality of life, you might want to consider seeking help from you local mental health resources and take a break from the site.

Shouldn't we lock it? I don't think comments would be helpful there. Maybe add a line about pm'ing one of us if they need further info or clarification?

Locking might be good, but I'm not sure about having them pm us for clarification. That is fraught with difficulties, including the vagueness associated with anonynimity, misunderstanding, etc. Mental health issues can be very complicated, and I would have reservations about even clarifications.

No, I just meant people are bound to be curious and make comments, maybe with sarcasm or suspicion (which is why I thought it would be a good idea to lock it) about why we have such an announcement. If they have questions in that vein, they should ask us privately and not upset people who could actually use the info provided.

The sticky could be locked, and members could still start a new thread to discuss it, if they so wanted. I would hope that the goal of the board and the members is about open discussion of difficult subjects, even in disagreement, that empowers members with information, rather disempowers them by the restriction of information, without being toxic to some. Granted, such a thread would have to be more closely monitored than usual.

Thanks for the input you two. I've locked it, and will edit it further as time allows.
