Eyeno.

Postby barracuda » Sun Sep 11, 2011 2:25 am

Okay, it's the second time eyeno has brought the Zen Gardner material to the forum. The writer's work is objectionable and anti-semitic.

Why am I getting shit from another mod about addressing it? Wombaticus, if you have an issue with me, message me, or bring it up down here. I don't need to debate you and him at the same time. Let's try and wear the same colors.

Also, could it be any more obvious that .......eyeno...... is our friend vigilant/eyepen/HowlingRainbows/etc in a new outfit? Jussayin.

Sorry if it comes off as giving you shit, but my reaction was pretty straightforward. I don't get what you were trying to do in that thread. If the material is a problem, remove it. If the member is a problem, ban them. Adding more antisemetic material to the thread still makes no sense to me.

If the consensus is that twice is enough, I have no problem with that ruling.

I don't have a problem discusssing the Judeo-Masonic conspiracy trope in the right context. I just don't want that discussion to happen in a sympathetic light. So I was trying - okay, poorly - to point to the historical roots of the theory, because the wiki article had a decent breakdownof it.

On the other hand, I was interested in getting eyeno to reveal himself a little, because I think he's a bad apple. But you're right, there must be a better way, because his reaction made the thread a mess. Perhaps I could have taken the Gardner post to a new thread and talked about it there.

Sorry I didn't check in here until now, and I'm heading out for the evening in a few moments. I have little doubt Eyeno=vigilant. I'd be open to trying to draw him out further to eliminate the remaining doubt, a suspension for the material he posted or even a ban.

But eyeno does uncloak in the post you point to, and further down in the thread as well. He has carefully built up a naive persona. Even his avatar is classic naive art. But sometimes he can't keep the sophisticated writer with an agenda out of his posts. He's disciplined enough not to do anything obviously bannable. But as you see from the responses in the thread (and from the trajectory of previous such threads), Riginters generally don't fall for his line. This is self-regulating, and your interventions ensure that it is.

Sorry, but I've been incommunicado all w/e until a little while ago.

What's the final outcome of this?

Has eyeno been banned?

No action has been taken yet, Bruce.

What bothers me about letting this stuff ride is the way in which it moves a sort of Overton window here on the forum toward mild acceptance of "reasonable" pseudo-innocent discussion involving sources and viewpoints that conflict with the mission statement, whatever that might be, but presumably anti-fascism. But you're right, the crowd mostly here isn't falling for it.

My opinion is that we should probably suspend or ban next time eyeno presents a problem.

I think it's a good thing to be a lil' public in our disagreements because 1) it makes us look honesterer, and 2) it deludes the enemies (and verily I am onboard with the secret of their existence) into thinking we're a house divided. Kayfabe in the future, sound good?

But, to clarify, my bafflement was not on behalf of free speech or some hippie bullshit like that. I was advocating, like always, for less tolerance. RI is a post-conspiracy theory community and that's why adult swim is scheduled separately from the water wings crowd.

I'm all for moderation kayfabulation. Gimme a heads-up so I can brace myself for the folding chair.

As for less tolerance, throw up alerts when you think it's called for, and come down here and let's discuss w/ Teh Local Genius.

I suspended Hugh and eyeno for this exchange. I'm thinking a few days would be nice.

I hope that doesn't seem too harsh. If it does, though, feel free to adjust accordingly.

You might want to check out the clitoris thread of Willow's. He's stirred the pot there & he does have that "vigilant" feel, if you ask me.

I'm being overcome with that urge to punch the computer again. Does this guy just get drunk & go off on a tangent for attention?
