Perelandra's Complaint.

Postby barracuda » Fri Nov 04, 2011 3:02 pm

I received this pm in conjunction with her alert in General Discussion:

Perelandra wrote:WTF is with this fruhmenschen troll? I've been feeling bad vibes from this character's trash for months.

Also, unrelatedly, why does American Dream get to have dual incoherent vanity threads to which he typically posts numerous times daily, causing my eyes to be offended? I mean, haven't member blogs arrived?

I wish there was a nuclear ignore or some way to never see specific threads or posters again.
:hrumph

Thoughts? I know I've raised this issue before, but the vanity threads continue to proliferate.

She makes a good point about the member blogs. The board would clean up nicely if they'd only use them.

And re an ignore function, maybe the board needs a refresher in the "foe" function:

Foes are users which will be ignored by default. Posts by these users will not be fully visible. Personal messages from foes are still permitted. Please note that you cannot ignore moderators or administrators.

Though I've never used it, so I can't speak for it from experience. Have any of you?

I'm assuming that Perelandra is referring to the Economic Aspects of Love thread. If it were entirely up to me, it would either be Data Dumped or moved to AD's blog.

As for Fru, he sort of has message-board-tourettes, and I've asked him several times to include more details in his OPs, and honestly, he's been a little better about it.

Lots of people have been annoyed by his "clever" thread titles, but as far as I can tell, he's never done anything to warrant any serioius moderation.

I've never used the Foe option, but it seems like the perfect solution for Perelandra and Fru.

Also, I finally shifted Economic Aspects of "Love" to the Data Dump. (Mac's comment as to how depressing it was to see "love" in inverted commas every day atop the forum was my own private tipping point.)

Does AD's Tantric thread also qualify? I hesitate because I received a message from slomo a couple of weeks ago, who came out of retirement in part because, he said, it made a big impression on him.

I don't personally use foe or ignore, but I would think that's the solution. After all, posters only put material out there. Readers actually have to click on it and read it in order to become offended. There are a few posters I routinely don't read.

If a particular thread is effectively a user's daily blog, I think it is fair to suggest that it be moved there.

This isn't based on a scientific study, but I think that AD's Tantric thread has a bit more member interaction than his Economic Aspects of Love thread. For now, I'd keep it in GD.

Just moved the Portland thread to the Data Dump.*

* Maybe I should have called it something other than a dump.

How about the Glorious Data Repository?

They'll be lining up to post there!

And I don't know how I managed to miss the Portland thread, but holy hell, what a strange mess.
