Homemade Kombucha

I'd like to try and make some homemade Kombucha. I love the Synergy Kombucha drinks you can get at places like Whole Foods, but at $4 a bottle they are beyond my budget these days.

I have heard Kombucha has tonic qualities, but I don't know how true that is. I know that I've always enjoyed drinking it, though, and that is reason enough to have a go at this.

I'd like to try to make a tea that tastes a bit like the Synergy drinks. I know that I most likely need a mother culture, and I think I can purchase one locally - but I wonder if anybody here has experience with this amazing bittersweet fermented live drink? Any tips for flavorings and/or process would be appreciated.

There was a post about making your own on boingboing this summer.

"O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
"You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
But answer came there none--
And this was scarcely odd, because
They'd eaten every one.

TY, annie. That looks like a good recipe, except, as someone pointed out in the comments, using a plastic container. Kombucha is very acidic.

I'll try and post some pictures and my experience when I get this going.
