I found this particular statement interesting:<br><br><!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>"Blair has brought to you destruction in central London, and he will bring more of that, God willing," al-Zawahri said in the tape, which was excerpted by the pan-Arab satellite channel. </em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--><br><br>Did he mean this literally?<br><br>Further on in the article, it states that this is blaming Blair for continuing to keep troops in Iraq and supporting the U.S., but I have not been able to find a transcript of the tape to put that quote in context.<br><br>Is this more conditioning of the U.S. in the preparation for another MIHOP attack? <p></p><i></i>

This is a reference by John Leonard to Webster Tarpley's new book, "9/11 Synthetic Terror":<br><br>"Tarpley's book has a chapter named "Islamic Fundamentalism: Fostered by U. S. Foreign Policy." It's a policy going back to the 19th century British Arab Bureau, crown purveyors of divide and conquer tactics, who hit on xenophobic fundamentalism as the tool to make the Arabs impossible partners for alliances with any of Britain's rivals. <br><br>"Poster boy" Osama bin Laden is only the latest product of this policy. Alternative writers in the West are quick to point out the demagogic effect his image has on Western publics. Few of them realize the deeply cynical obverse of the covert strategy: feeding the Arabs on the poison pills of false hopes in a terrorist hero. <br><br>Yet Arab admiration for Osama has remained platonic. Anthropologists long ago noted the Arab tendency to vent feelings in words rather than actions. It seems that it is conveniently al-Qaeda when the 'War on Terror' spring needs ratcheting up, but when 'al-Qaeda' state that the London attacks are associated with the UK's & US's foreign policy, then the attacks & al-Qaeda may not be linked!!<br>It is getting more difficult for them to keep the story together!
