Does anyone know whose voice this is claiming some crucial scenes where cut form Eyes Wide Shut? Has anyone seen the special on French tv supposedly showing some of these scenes?

I only know of small scenes that were cut, so this is news to me. Others were modified with CG to show less nudity.

I don't know who is being interviewed, maybe Adam Gorightly?

He says he wrote an article before the film came out and right after Kubrick died.

Hi, Pierre. I think I recognize the voice as that of Jay Weidner, claiming that critical scenes were cut from Eyes Wide Shut. He is quite knowledgeable about Stanley Kubrick and the connection between his films and the tradition of the Great Work of alchemy.

In fact, Jay Weidner has quite an interesting article on Stanley Kubrick, called "Alchemical Kubrick 2001: The Great Work On Film," which you might enjoy if you haven't read it already. Some of the same alchemical themes are common to both films, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Eyes Wide Shut.

His email address, as published openly on his site, is JayWeidner@SacredMysteries.com, in case you might want to ask him yourself. Jay is quite an interesting chap, and might be able to give you the additional information you're looking for, if you happen to catch him when he has some time.

Thank you for your help. Eldritch I think you're right, it's Jay Weidner. I read his article on Kubrick. It was a helpful link.

Pyramids

Postby Col. Quisp » Fri Aug 15, 2008 10:26 am

I watched EWS again yesterday (it never gets old) and noticed tons of triangle shapes. Can't believe I missed them before... The Christmas trees are pyramids, even some of the lighting forms pyramid shapes. The women's thongs are upside down pyramids....Szandor has a hankie peeking out of his jacket, in the shape of a pyramid...the hotel clerk forms his arms ito a pyramid shape while talking to Bill....the people in the diner are wearing hoodies, and their hoods are draped down their backs in the shape of a triangle. Domino's dress is shaped like a pyramid in the front top.

And then there's the framing. Bill is often seen framed between two tall objects or bars.

Another instance of my eyes being shut while watching this masterpiece.

whisper

Postby Col. Quisp » Sun Sep 07, 2008 10:19 pm

all of a sudden, the subtitles revealed what Leelee Sobieski whispers to Dr. Bill in the Under the Ranbow shop:

"You're going to need an ermine-lined cloak."

implying she's been to these rituals herself.

but why all of a sudden do my subtitles reveal this? They never did before.

Why didn't I ever think to turn on the subtitles?

Well, I had turned them on before and it never revealed what she was saying until just last night. that's the weird part.

This movie never ceases to amaze me.

Quick wikis:

In heraldry, ermine is one of the furs used in blazon, representing the skin of the stoat, known in medieval Latin as armenius (Armenian (mouse)).

In heraldry and heraldic vexillology, a blazon is a formal description of, most often, a coat of arms or flag, which enables a person to construct or reconstruct the appropriate image.

Vexillology is the scholarly study of flags.

Yes, it's always there now. I can't figure it out.

His cloak didn't have ermine lining, did it?

Claims "huge scenes" were missing after seeing a French TV special of EWS. AFAIK only small scenes were taken out, but I don't know what edit that would have been from.

I can't remember, hell I can't remember things I knew a week ago.
I take the ermine reference as what people commonly think of, which would be a symbol of wealth, a privilege, royalty, but with Kubrick you never know.

The ermine reference is in a transcript, but it is not clear here if it spoken by the little rainbow girl.

Video review of Eyes Wide Shut
3 Parts.
A rather tame review, but part one talks about ermine.

Thanks, SJ! These were interesting. I think the author needs to read our analysis though!

The ermine: you could say that Domino's fur looks like ermine, I suppose. Imitation ermine?
