Permission hasn’t been granted to embed these videos, but you see that hasn’t stopped me from posting them here for you. As usual, click on the video or its link either of which will take you to the selected video.

I’ve not ever seen a story as artfully created, showing an unsettling yet long over due end to brute, masculine dominations, as can be observed in stunning depictions in Becoming.

        Falling | 2006

Ms. Ayelen Liberona directed, choreographed and performed
while hanging from a tree. This is the first part in a tetralogy
about our relationship with nature and the return of the goddess.

        Becoming | 2009

This is the second part in the tetralogy, and an award winner.

More here, and the paragraph you see below has been originally noted here.

Becoming tells the story of Idolamantis, an ancient woman
who moves like a praying mantis as she blends gracefully
through changing landscapes. Despite her elegance, though,
Idolamantis is not called upon lightly for she is as deadly as
she appears innocent. But the wise fireflies that watch over
the forest have sensed a dancer. Man’s uniformity has
spread through infinite fields that are swallowing up the last
remnants of those old forests we once inhabited. Idolamantis
crosses the last portal that separates our worlds and leaps
through a cornfield to lure Man into one final battle.

Thank YOU, CImage. Yours :lovehearts:and other RIers' work, writings and accomplishments, and memories of familiarly and notably gifted RI individuals, still fascinate and motivate me! For all of whom I am grateful.

Bones Like Ghosts

The animator Richard Swarbrick has drawn a tribute to Gareth Bale’s two games against Inter in the Champions League. If there were a channel that showed live matches in this style, I might forget what living people looked like.

this is just plain beautiful.

You don’t need to understand Russian to enjoy this Russian rendition of Dr. Seuss’ classic, "The Cat in the Hat". This animated gem from 1984, one moment before the arrival of Glasnost and Perestroika, is both psychedelic as well as highly surrealistic.

The Russian cat in the hat appears in the house with a mushroom in his hand like feline Ken Kesey, and takes the two bored Russian kids on a wild trip between heaven and earth on a kind of childlike acid test, which at times brings to mind western psychedelic animations from the 1970s, especially the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine.

Aleksandr Petrov art directed this animated adaption of a Dr. Seuss poem for the Yekaterinburg-based Sverdlovsk Film Studio. Petrov later won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film for The Old Man and the Sea (1999).

Plan of the City
Joshua Frankel, director

<— SEE THE CREDITS. A new film combing animation with live action conceived and directed by Joshua Frankel, about the architecture of New York City blasting off into outer space and resettling on Mars. The film’s visuals are an animated collage combining live action footage, animated elements, illustrations and treated photographs, including photos taken by the Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity made available to the public domain by the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Plan of the City was created in collaboration with composer Judd Greenstein and NOW Ensemble, an acclaimed “indie classical” chamber ensemble; the ensemble, including Greenstein, feature prominently in the film as live actors set inside the animated framework.

The audio of the film consists solely of Greenstein’s Change, performed by NOW Ensemble; Change and Plan of the City were created in parallel, each expressing its own artistic intention while simultaneously serving its “sibling”.

The film was presented with the music performed live, timed to the film, at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City in May, 2011. It also exists as its own stand-alone entity, utilizing NOW Ensemble’s recent studio recording of Change (out on New Amsterdam Records).

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore
    Moonbot Studios

→ [EXCERPT FROM VIMEO NOTES.] Inspired, in equal measures, by Hurricane Katrina, Buster Keaton, The Wizard of Oz, and a love for books, “Morris Lessmore” is a story of people who devote their lives to books and books who return the favor. Morris Lessmore is a poignant, humorous allegory about the curative powers of story. Using a variety of techniques (miniatures, computer animation, 2D animation) award winning author/ illustrator William Joyce and Co-director Brandon Oldenburg present a new narrative experience that harkens back to silent films and M-G-M Technicolor musicals. “Morris Lessmore” is old fashioned and cutting edge at the same time.

“The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore” is one of five animated short films that will be considered for outstanding film achievements of 2011 in the 84th Academy Awards ®.
