Who Runs the World ? – Network Analysis Reveals ‘Super Entity’ of Global Corporate Control

In the first such analysis ever conducted, Swiss economic researchers have conducted a global network analysis of the most powerful transnational corporations (TNCs). Their results have revealed a core of 787 firms with control of 80% of this network, and a “super entity” comprised of 147 corporations that have a controlling interest in 40% of the network’s TNCs.

It goes on. This is really really interesting. There's a list of the top 50 which for some reason I'm having trouble cutting and pasting. Will try to fix later, gotta run out for a few minutes.

Willow posted the list in another thread just the other day:

The network of global corporate control
Stefania Vitali, James B. Glattfelder, Stefano Battiston
(Submitted on 28 Jul 2011)
The structure of the control network of transnational corporations affects global market competition and financial stability. So far, only small national samples were studied and there was no appropriate methodology to assess control globally. We present the first investigation of the architecture of the international ownership network, along with the computation of the control held by each global player. We find that transnational corporations form a giant bow-tie structure and that a large portion of control flows to a small tightly-knit core of financial institutions. This core can be seen as an economic "super-entity" that raises new important issues both for researchers and policy makers.

A lot of companies I've never heard of. Good fodder for some late-night research sometime.

Thanks for posting that list. I had very limited time there and for some reason was having a hell of a time with that site.

Corporations are legal fictions, it's the people in charge of them who hold the power.
Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that all was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, and make it possible. -- Lawrence of Arabia

Well, of course, but the corporation is their address.

Well well well....
The central core of the financial system is mutual ownership.
This means that systemic risk will resonate throughout the system, rather than be dampened...
The response to shocks from the environment will be to consolidate and reduce complexity by increasing the pervasiveness of technology and rules / procedure proliferation.
IMHO, from a systemic point of view, I have not seen a larger sign pointing to the introduction of a global technofascist, Roman Law society, which ironically is very poorly equipped to deal with external change...
