Well, he had an ambulance ride too. But I know. $9000 is huge; ridiculous. That is bugging me too. I checked with my wife and she insists that's how much it was, and I believe her but she could be mistaken. I have not personally seen the bill. I asked her to round it up and she couldn't. Whatever. If I find it I'll tell you exactly how much it was.

I'm having trouble finding enforcement information or structures or like I said figures. This is going to turn into the SOX of the health ins. world. You read it here first.

In the meantime I found this:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/mar/24/obamacares-federal-police-force/

A report released last week by House Ways and Means Committee Republicans estimated that the dreaded agency's ranks would swell by 16,500. The newly sworn agents would be charged with ensuring the public's obedience to Mr. Obama's health care directives. The IRS also would enjoy the enhanced powers and budgetary authority required for monitoring the health care status of 300 million Americans on a month-to-month basis. The total cost of the effort is likely to exceed $10 billion.

The investigations will gradually ramp up until 2016, when the individual mandate tax kicks in fully. After that, if the O Force wins a second term, the unprecedented levy will fall upon citizens who fail to purchase health care coverage acceptable to Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. IRS agents would conduct the audits and impose a fine of either $2,085 or 2.5 percent of income - whichever is greater - on disobedient households. According to Congressional Budget Office figures, this tax will generate $17 billion by 2019.

David Frum:

we do know that the gap between this plan and traditional Republican ideas is not very big. The Obama plan has a broad family resemblance to Mitt Romney's Massachusetts plan. It builds on ideas developed at the conservative Heritage Foundation in the early 1990s that formed the basis for Republican counter-proposals to Clintoncare in 1993-1994.

it might be that the insurance company and the hospital have a deal arranged for a flat rate for ER visits.

it seems like a lot of people here want to give you a hard time about your views on the state of healthcare and congress.
i'd love to help you out, but:

i'm kind of busy these days dealing with the reality of getting my kid home from the hospital (who was born a full trimester premature) and helping my Wife recuperate because she got so stressed out after giving birth that she suffered two massive myocardial infarctions about a month and a half later.

so, very quickly, my advice to you is:

tell all the personas here at RI to go fuck themselves

turn off the computer

spend time with your family

.

Hey congratulations on having a kid. (I have a friend who was born after 22 weeks btw. Now he's an adult he's healthy strong and clever, but it was struggle for the first few months. Worth it tho, I'm sure... Good luck.)

Congrats and best wishes IanEye.

But If we all told ourselves here at the RI board or any Internet board to "fuck ourselves" there would no longer be a board on which to wish the sentiment of others to go fuck ourselves, themselves and one another. There is plenty of info and fodder here in this thread notwithstanding your beautiful and challenged baby, that is plenty worth consideration and debate. Many questions remain. I understand things are different for you, but probably about 100% of the rest of us don't have a premie laying upon our breast in a photo we can provide. This heinous health care bill still remains and I doubt the first thing you are going to teach your new life form, is to tell anybody to "fuck themselves".

But best of luck. Honestly.

I didn't quite understand the whole "fuck themselves" comment, but whatever.

I suppose if the gentlemen of RI actually did attempt to fuck themselves, they'd be glad of a bit of health insurance after the novelty wore off. A kink in your dick can really hurt, you know.

A little while ago, a RIer posited the question of why would they go for a bill like this one instead of simply providing an extension of Medicare coverage to younger folks.

I remember answering that extending Medicare coverage would provide an optional remedy and reinforce your ability to choose, whereas the current bill, now law, reinforces their control over us.

It seems that a Congressman recently slipped that motivation out:

I reiterate my earlier comment then: it's all about control, under the guise of the trojan horse of healthcare.

Yes, 23, a "kind face," while telling all of us to fuck ourselves (I hope you didn't let your daughter read that insult). Sounds like a gentle guy to me...

Kindness is a human attribute, SDBG... not a saintly one. And humans are imperfect.

I've known many a kind person who exhibited human emotions like anger and disappointment.

Saints don't impress me. Kind, all-be-it imperfect, human beings do, on the other hand.

I'll take kindness any day. Even if it comes in imperfect garb.
