Minime, I've given some thought to your rebuke, "not who, but how." Or was it why. Anyway, I now think you're correct about that. I still think crooks should be investigated and prosecuted.

Sure it's trollin'. Minor, possibly unconscious. Quite tolerable really. One clue is that you insult everyone who bothered writing here while you were absent (as you say), but that's no biggie. A bigger clue is the repeated claim that everyone here knows little whereof they speak, they are distracted with extranea, while implying you have your sights on what really matters, what is truly BIG. You've been up to the surface and seen through it all, so much more clearly than all we losers still chasing shadows in the cave. Yet you never take one step to specify what it is that you know. You keep hyping an invisible elephant.

More what and how with the same emphasis on who... Remove the who without addressing the what and the how and others will arise to replace them even more hidden and more powerful.Elvis » Mon Jun 24, 2019 9:12 pm wrote:Minime, I've given some thought to your rebuke, "not who, but how." Besides not really being a question, it's the wrong question.

In this context, trolling seems to mean 'that which we at RI don't like'.JackRiddler » Mon Jun 24, 2019 9:51 pm wrote:Sure it's trollin'. Minor, possibly unconscious. Quite tolerable really. If you read carefully, you'll notice that I carefully avoided making blanket statements, using the terms 'almost', 'almost', 'pretty much', etc. in an effort, unsuccessful as it turns out, to avoid responses such as yours.
As for the rest, you have made inferences unimplied by me. While it is true that I clearly believe that most (see what I did there?) here know little whereof they speak (especially regarding the BIG event), I include myself in that group. My query in this thread is a reflection of that self-assessment. The nature of the BIG event necessarily includes misdirection and deception, and takes rigor and intuition of which, sadly, I am incapable--to even begin to pierce the veil.
Which makes it no less worthy of speculation.
What do I feel will happen this Spring that is BIG? This Summer? This year? Well, thanks for asking...

Harvey, we all have different reasons for the things we do and don't do. Most are largely unconscious.Harvey » Tue Jun 25, 2019 7:50 am wrote:A small thing, but important, I asked what are we waiting for.minime » Mon Jun 24, 2019 3:58 pm wrote:

I watched Century of the Self again before coming back. It ends just when it's getting interesting, in my opinion.

Nope. There is no "that" for "us" at RI to not like. Can't dislike what isn't there. You're not avoiding making blanket statements. You're not making statements at all, but suggesting deeper meanings without any present. Or so it seems, since you won't state it. Which, again, is partly a product of or an opening given by the vague start to the thread. It may be annoying as a style (and probably intentionally so), but is there a substance to this?minime » Tue Jun 25, 2019 8:08 am wrote:In this context, trolling seems to mean 'that which we at RI don't like'.

While in a doctor's office waiting for a client I happened onto an article in Time magazine, about Internet trolling and its harmful effects, in which the author identified a troll as someone who encouraged others on the forum to 'kill themselves'.
Using this definition, someone here deserves a cover for Troll of the Year.
This from someone who likes you Jack, and appreciates your many contributions to the forum, such as they are. It's a rare thing here.
Also, I am not unaware of the foolishness of engaging in what may seem like debate with someone wears a clitoris--or a cock--or anything else on his shoulder. And of course no other avatar so clearly expresses the loose narrative which informs the foundation of Rigorous Intuition back to its beginnings.
There is so much ground to cover I hardly know where to begin. In medias res, then? Just riffing...
As Bergson may be considered the nominal patron of RI (though not really) I wonder have you read Time and Free Will, especially the concept of duration with regards to magnitudes and intensities...
Using the elan of those terms, I suggest that BIG as a concept may actually be very, very small. At present. It is not necessarily its magnitude but its intensity which represents the substance of which you speak.
Anyone?

Anyone?
"Come, tell us your reason: what sayest thou to this?"
"Come, your reason, Jack, your reason."
Myself, I would not have defined it thus. From what I've seen it's more about deliberately? subverting expectation.
Jack: "Give you a reason on compulsion! If reasons were as plentiful as blackberries, I would give no man a reason upon compulsion, I."

Before this gets worse, let's not focus on our various personalities and shortcomings.

Now I'm curious about Bergson (as if I need more to read). Minime, can you fill me in a bit?
