:wallhead: I hate it when I'm right. This next paragraph is from a blogpost I wrote in 2008:

It ain't over, til the fat lady sings...
Gee Al, I don't really think that a political endorsement is proper on this blog at this time. There are other people who think that perhaps Barack is too good to be true. My own family remembers the time that swept Hitler into power. We remember that Hitler started out as a charismatic, and that he was elected with great fanfare and appeal by a people desperate for change at any cost. Now I'm not casting aspersions as to who or who is not Hitler. After all, we're still living through the Bush regime. I am simply saying that we live in such perilous times as that now.

They say you can judge a man by the company he keeps. I don't know all that much about Barak, other than that he is young, handsome, and a perfect 'hook' for the zeitgeist of the times. But because Barack has not yet shown me what he will do, I can only judge him by his associates, and Zbigniew Brzynski is a name that still haunts me from, was it the Nixon Administration? (Carter, corrects my historian mother!) Great hope, or Manchurian candidate? Time will tell.

snip

We need to remember this, and not get swept away by the zeitgeist. Fascism is clothed in the sweeping generalizations and golden oratory of the 'chosen one', the puppet in the brilliant limelight a perfect foil for darker distractions. We need heartfelt and conscious rational clarity right now, not another populistic Madison Avenue rush to the precipice .

Good for you, Alwyn. Some people saw this back in 2008, and spoke out about what they were seeing as you did. Others saw this, and told themselves that they really didn't see what they were seeing.

And many others still haven't got a clue, and hope is fading that they ever will.

Indefinite detention bill passes in Senate

Exactly 220 years to the date after the Bill of Rights was ratified, the US Senate today voted 86 to 13 in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012, allowing the indefinite detention and torture of Americans.

After a back-and-forth in recent days between both the Senate and House yielded intense criticism from Americans attempting to hold onto their Constitutional rights, NDAA FY2012 is now on its way to the White House, where yesterday the Obama administration revealed that the president would not veto the legislation, cancelling out a warning he offered less than a month earlier.

Obama has finally brought about change to America, but it’s nothing to be hopeful about.

Speaking before the Senate this afternoon, Sen. Lindsey Graham (Rep-SC) told his colleagues, “I hope you believe America is part of the battlefield.” The United States is at war, he insisted, and anyone alleged to be in opposition to the US government’s game will now be subjected to military-style detention indefinitely.

The GOP Nominee Is... Obama

Richard Greener
Posted: 12/19/11 12:22 PM ET

...

Hate him for all "that"? Sure they do. But, they love him for what he does. No Republican could be a better Republican. No joke. They really believe that. And so would you if you were one of "them." You need "proof" of this Republican, right-wing approval for a second Obama term? Ok...

Take a look at Bain Capital, the notorious financial institution founded and for decades headed by Mitt Romney. Obama has raised twice as much from Bain as Romney has. Go figure.

In 2008 Barack Obama, the young, inexperienced, Black community organizer from Chicago's inner city, raised more money in campaign contributions from Wall Street than the grizzled, old, business-friendly, known commodity -- Senator John McCain. Obama's biggest Wall Street contributor -- Goldman-Sachs. Go figure.

You may not like the rulers of Wall Street. But nobody ever accused them of being stupid, did they? They give new meaning to the timeworn phrase "put your money where mouth is." Maybe -- just maybe -- they know something about Barack Obama that liberals and progressives have missed. Dylan had more than weather on his mind when he wrote, "money doesn't talk, it swears." What's Wall Street's money saying? Cover the children's ears.

And what specifically is it that President Barack Obama does and has done in his 3 years as chief executive to send warm thrills through the cold hearts of Republicans? You know the answer, but how about this for 5 quick things:

...

So, what's to be done? First, forget about the sham playhouse called the Republican Party nomination. By summer the Designated Loser will be chosen. Obama will then sweep to victory next November. Liberals and progressives everywhere, from the Upper West Side to the mansions of Malibu, will dust off and revive their badly bruised 2008 dreams, now little more than brutal and cruel hallucinations, all in anticipation of another stirring yet meaningless Inaugural Address.

All this will surely be followed immediately by... more of the same. No wonder the weather man's become extraneous.

I'm pretty sure that Obama will be re-selected.

(After all, he's been a better Bu$h than any Bu$h could be!)

At least until Jeb in 2016. And that'll take us to 2024.

Frankly, sometimes i don't see how or why the US should be spared the karmic payback of grief, heartache, disaster, violence, misery, agony and horror that the US Inc. has lavishly gifted on scores of nations and their people just over the past 30 years even -- and which injury in a vast array of kinds have been committed under the banner of multiple scores of claimed worthy, honorable, noble, righteous and even presumed 'selfless' causes (from liberation to protection to humanitarian 'relief').

It seems only about one out of ten (or perhaps closer to 1 out of 20? Less?) Americans really see these wars & conflicts for the unspeakable crimes against humanity which they are -- and the absolute epitome of hypocritical dishonesty that is a betrayal of America's most core values & principles. The calculated duplicity of America's wars of aggression & territorial expansion, part of the Imperialist agenda that has imposed neoliberalism on an ever-larger near-majority of the world, has sabotaged peace, liberty, justice, equality, honesty, trust, dignity, honour, human rights and civil society on such a scale and to such a degree that arguably has never happened before -- quite possibly pushing the chances for a globalized, truly enlightened, just & democratically-ruled civil society another century beyond -- that is, IF we haven't totally squandered the last best chance we had as a self-willed and motivated species to avert mass-catastrophic die-off with resulting panic-and-desperation-induced predatory rioting and crisis of last-stand competative survival.

In this context, its hard to see Obama as NOT the product of a carefully-crafted Dear Leader frontman psyop that enables the well-entrenched ruling-elite Circus-Global Imperial to continue with Business AS Usual, consolidating while expanding political, military, economic and ideological control of the masses thru the institutionalization of a rigidly authoritarian & fascist ParaMilitary-Police State and corporate-feudal technocracy.

In the last several years, the spectre of what we are moving towards has become even more bleak and awful than the most perceptive among us might have imagined, while retaining some sense of inspired optimism and resolute courage has become harder.

I damn those sociopathic villians and traitors to the human species who like Obama and puppeteers and his legions of earnest sycophants and idealistic enablers, the Wall Street gang of robber-barons and self-styled Grand Masters of the Long Con Swindle & carry-trade fraudsters, war industry hucksters and Fortune 500 embezzlers, have brought us to this moment of violence, moral as well as economic and social bankruptcy, environmental degradation on the verge of crisis, political chicanery, endemic fraud and institutionalized corruption etc. at least as much for blighting the human spirit and its capacity to love and live in peace as for the great continuing damage they do to the individual men, women and children that their serial crimes victimize.

True courage and selfless devotion to the cause of liberating civil society while inspiring people to become self-actualized, responsible and autonomous members of empowered local communities & families, is one of many noble goals that the Occupy Movement and other Social Justice causes can do help manifest -- to the extent necessary which I DO believe will be equal to the task of overcoming the tremendous distraction, lack of confidence, disinfo, challenges and psyop obstacles the state will attempt to divert the public's struggle with.

Anyway (sorry to wander offtrack), I too wouldn't be surprised to find the Obama Phenom prevails (as planned) viz his re-selection as the best damn friend a diehard rightwinger or dedicated repub could hope for -- despite, or rather largely because when it comes to screwing the working-less & vanishing middle classes there isn't a lickspittle bit of difference (or empty tube of KY to help ease the schtupping) 'tween a New Party Dem or an old school Repubber.

My God!

Is there a finer orator on the board than the Star Man from the Sky?

I say there is not.

Your clarity of vision is a blessing to us all Star Man.

Funnily enough, just last night I was looking up at the clear night sky, watching Sirius winking at me in chromatic splendour. It was another beautiful clear night, and I love to stargaze. I thought of you then, Star Man Skye.

I wondered whether you and I are both from the same star.

Or perhaps it is just that we both make the same wish upon a star.

God bless you and all your kin, StarmanSkye. I agree with you that there is hope for a new future, if we can all agree on the obvious, and then act to make things better, just a little bit, each day.
