Anyone entering the room with my very nearly favorite Ernst is surely welcome. And seeing as how it's from "A Week of Kindness", it carries a poignant relevance. As I guess it always has.

Greetings!

This is ida pingala. I owe my extended presence here to the benign neglect of Cricket broadband, now 11 days past shutoff, and am likely to disappear at any moment without a trace... which induces in me a sense of casual urgency; though I can't say why, as I have nothing of great moment to impart.

So, I have been backreading...

and what I am most impressed with is not the encyclopedic knowledge on display, but the great sympathy which inspires it. Whenever discord arises in discussion, it is inevitably accompanied on both (all?) sides by that sympathy, obviating the need, in my opinion, for any apologies.

I do have a few things to say, if time allows, to fill the space between. Thanks for the opportunity to do so.

Bonjour ida...

I noticed you. Mainly because of your name. I have a piece of 90% finished work hanging around that employs this concept and text with your name. Its been sitting around in its state for a while now, I just need to finish.
Your access and situation though reminds me of a Seinfeld episode:

Kramer test drives car on Seinfeld

Kramer takes a dealership car for a test drive and runs it on E

P.S. -enjoy your posts, for however long you continue.

Let's have a look at it, when you're comfortable with it.

Damn. Got the urge to delete this post. I didn't think of the repercussions of being the last post on a sticky.

This describes me too- even the shyness!
I am a huge fan of Jeff -think I 'found' RI around mid-2004?
The sheer vastness of knowledge on this forum and the great taste of so many here from music to movies and so on is like finding something sweet every time you open a door or something.
So hi to PufPuf and everyone else! :yay

Let me add my welcome here too...

Hello from the resident village idiot. Seriously, I'm way out of my league here.

Thanks for the welcomes guys-and Neon -I think you are great.
I am also way out of my league compared to most here-kind of like Sesame Street meets Sixty Minutes (perhaps 'back in the day' Sixty Minutes anway)-I am sure corporate America has fucked this up beyond belief now too just like 99 percent of everything else!

"60 Minutes" should be more appropriately called "46 Minutes of Propaganda Interspersed with 14 Minutes of Advertising".

Amen to this! I think the percentage of the population of the uSA that knows we are bombarded 24/7 with propaganda would be astonishingly low-especially given the fact that we have access to the most contextualizing/factifying bits of technology in history-discounting its addictive and silly properties here!
I suppose most of ancient Rome would have been looking at cute lion and tiger videos had they had the internet-sigh.
My father-definitely no conservative-and generally not reactionary-seems to already be buying into the libertarian myth that social security and medicare have been improperly funded/managed/ and 'the money is just not there' type thinking - never mind the fact that a tiny group of billionaires just shafted the nation out of trillions of dollars since 2008-and no one seems to be calling for the billionaire fascists to cut back on anything!
I told my father that we proles should just gift wrap all we own -the whole fucking thing and somehow give it to the Walton, Buffett, Gates. Coors, Koch etc families- somehow a quintillon bucks just doesnt go as far as it used to!
some days i just wanna die! :(
