McCain was called "Hamlet." Movie now...'Hamlet 2'

"To be or not to be, that is the question."

The single most famous line associated with Hamlet's role in Western literature.

Not the first time this has been done. It is but one example of linguistic social control.
I've noticed other keywords and catch-phrases pre-emptively hijacked so they wouldn't cause trouble.

Repeating my request:

MacCruiskeen wrote:So, here's the argument in a nutshell:

1. An obscure movie is released, entitled Hamlet 2.

2. This prevents or at least discourages anyone from calling John McCain 'Hamlet', or from focusing on McCain's alleged indecisiveness.

Explain precisely how this works, please, Hugh. Because I can't see any way that 1 implies 2.

Thank you.

No they aren't.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone consider themselves to be Libertarians, and they criticize both the left and the right. Their approach isn't so much pro-establishment or right wing as much as it's just a reflection of their cynical, misanthropic view of current affairs.

They brilliantly attacked psychiatry, the disease model of alcoholism, Scientology, and many other worthy targets. They're the types of guys who recognize and understand US imperialism, but they apply that bullshit "common sense" cop-out that if it wasn't the US doing it, it would be someone else, and despite all our problems we're still the greatest country in the world, blah blah blah. It's a predictable reaction from certain types of smart right-wing misanthropes.

This represents a huge flaw in their worldview, but I doubt that it means they ever deliberately tried to push establishment talking points via South Park.

The poster for this high visibility mainstream megaplex movie now at my local psyops-plex right next to the poster for the next Coen Brothers movie, ' Burn After Reading.'
Now showing - 'Tropic Thunder,' 'Mamma Mia, 'Bottle Shock,' and something I forgot.

2. This prevents or at least discourages anyone from calling John McCain 'Hamlet', or from focusing on McCain's alleged indecisiveness.

This creates high competition for anyone wanting to start an anti-McCain website called 'Hamlet 2' or write a column evoking this criticism or start the equivalent of the purple bandaid tag used against Kerry.

I really have to point this out to you?

Explain precisely how this works, please, Hugh. Because I can't see any way that 1 implies 2.

Shocking. This so simple. You just don't get how words work in culture, I guess.

You see, ALL advertising and any other attempt at messaging exploits mnemic hooks.
Catch phrases are a standard propaganda technique.

I'm not kidding. sigh.

"Sigh", my arse. For all this display of inordinate self-love, you don't even begin to answer the question. The shocking thing is that you clearly imagine you've done so.

No, it doesn't. Anyone -- absolutely anyone in the world -- is free to compare John McCain to Hamlet any time he likes, no less so now than before this movie was released. Look:

"John McCain is so indecisive he makes Hamlet look like Captain America."

There, you see? I just did it. No problem. No problem at all. - Shall I do it again, with variations? OK:

"John McCain is already Prince of Denmark, so why is he trying to become US President? Recent revelations from people who have known him since his youth reveal that, when push comes to shove, McCain is constitutionally incapable of making the tough decisions required of a national leader. 'We used to call him "Hamlet"', says ... [etc.]"

See? It's easy. Nothing easier.

In fact, this movie makes it much easier than it used to be. Your hypothetical columnists and pundits now have a topical reason for comparing McCain to Hamlet, for the existence of a brand-new, popular contemporary reworking ensures that the average newspaper reader will have at least a vague idea of the plot and therefore understand the reference.

Example:

"Hey, anybody seen that new teenage laughathon called 'Hamlet 2'? Well, the title RIGHTLY belongs to John McCain, for he swithers and dithers so crazily that ...[etc.]"

Easy, easy, easy.

And you think the CIA worked on this movie as a way of helping McCain? You think this expensive teenage concoction is there to prevent anyone comparing John McCain to Hamlet? You think this was a CIA priority back when the film was being scripted and made?

Yes, incredibly; you do. It's beyond satire, but you do indeed believe all that.

Hugh, it's lunacy. And if the CIA were really as stupid as you think they are, then we would have no reason to fear them at all.

Not to pick on Hugh or anything, but I couldn't help but notice that he never responded to this point when it arose recently on the KWH board. I would REALLY love to see him respond to this.

Personally, I always reevaluate my belief system if I ever find myself unable to answer a basic question about it.

I've posted about a thousand times the decades of psyops and advertising using subliminal neuroscience to exploit the value in the general population of
*inoculation theory and interference theory creating pre-conditioned mnemonic paths-of-least-resistance away from hostile information to SAFE versions of keywords.*

Every time some smartass internet conspiracy culture intelligentsia claims-
"Why bother? I can hold two thoughts in my head. Nawwww."

Then why the hell should Coke spend billions of dollars advertising if you can just go buy a Pepsi? Why bother?

That's why I repeat "sigh." This is memetics 101. At RI? ehhh....

The most RECENT mnemonic triggers are extremely effective.
And existing stereotypes are easy to reinforce.

The theater of US presidential elections is used to reinforce the myths and stereotypes that keep the civilian facade enabling the military government called the US Warfare State.

So this year we are refighting Vietnam 1 during Vietnam 2.

Dennis Hopper has been cast in 'evil hippy' roles since 'Easy Rider.' And now again in 'Hamlet 2.'
He's an idiot (or greedy) to stay the poster boy for this discrediting stereotype.
Nice job, Hopper. The CIA loves you. Keep it up.
Image

That 'Hamlet 2' movie ALONE reinforces the virtue branding tagged onto the name McCain as a survivor of the 1960s and Vietnam.
He's the Sacred Male Warrior that all post-WWII psyops is anchored on.

So anyone who sees the advertising for this crap movie called 'Hamlet 2' is very likely to have the image of the ridiculous evil hippy pop into their heads instead of Air Force Commander Buck McCain.

And guaranteeing that when there's a dangerous article indicting McCain as a hand-wringing Hamlet is basic psyops planning.

That's called turning liabilities into assets, basic spookcraft.

Done.

Know anything about US politics?
US stereotypes?
How the US general population knows only TV and movies?
How language and memory work?
The stakes of (s)Election 2008?

If not, just have a Pepsi. :P

How many references are there to McCain being Hamlet? Just that one? There are several for Obama: one, two, three, four (though only in the comments -- showing that the association is in the public mind). Those are from the first page of Google results, I'm sure there are more (such as the one justdrew found). But because one guy made one comment during an interview for a (much) larger article the CIA needs to pump out Hamlet 2 to prevent anyone from calling McCain Hamlet?

Many people don't look at candidates until they 'have to.'

This newspaper article citing McCain as "Hamlet" and keeping his Keating Five role archived for us is from 1999, almost 10 years of public exposure and is the most in-depth expose on McCain's political career. Because it is on the internet, it still has the potential value of recency when people start to search up info on McCain during his campaign AND the dangerous information has cumulative exposure value at the same time.

Any spooks putting the teflon around their next War Criminal in Chief (going on for ages now) would know this article's danger.

It is that basic.
