in both instances, these are symbiotic relationships.
Women are taught, SCHOOLED, BRAINWASHED into trading on their appearances. Being a trophy wife OR a gold-digger wouldn't be possible if both sexes hadn't bitten into this horse-shit hook, line & sinker.
Further, women do not earn as much as men and their jobs are usually less secure. For this reason, it makes perfect sense for women to search for men with stable incomes. Not to mention, as Crickett pointed out, that a lot of women are supporting their men right now, even if on a tighter budget than would be the case if the roles were reversed. (Sure, sure, there have been gains - but look around you - female employment ghettos exist everywhere.) Tell me honestly why a garbage collector gets more money than a day care worker?
the women's movement has been pushed back, as far as I can see, to the point where 'feminist' is a derogatory label. To the point where Lady Gag(a) is played on the effin' top 40 radio telling unnamed mento "Fuck Her face" .. (it's in there, ohhhh you just have to listen for it, it's definitely in there over and over and over)
There is no such thing as a 'toxic wife' there's only a shit relationship where each partner agreed to look the other way on a host of crap in order to get what they wanted.
Oh and yes.. consumerism. That's the real problem here, not marriages.
