Such a weird and disturbing story.

I haven't watched the video, not sure I want to. I have read descriptions of what it shows. I have an aversion to videos or pics of someone's "final moments." Just to think they are alive in the image and now they are not...

So apologies if I come across as uninformed but......couldn't someone have been holding the door? I thought I read that it looked as though she was talking to someone or someone was talking to her, who couldn't be seen because of the camera angle. And whom she may have then followed.

well, if the elevator has a stop function, it kinda looked to me like she was holding the elevator for someone else, who didn't show. Alternately, it was not working right, she gave up on it, and took the stairs, at the top of which she discovered the roof door unlocked.

I doubt the elevator has a central stop/start control, but it's possible.

and my goodness, $65 a night is a 'flop house' now?

She's goofing on someone she knows. She pushes all the buttons as a joke, then hides in the corner to surprise the other person, but they don't show up. So she jumps out the door trying to catch them or scare them, but they aren't there or aren't coming. She thinks she hears them or sees them so she pushes the buttons again, hoping again to pull off her little joke. But they never show up, so she steps outside. There's no one in the hallway as she waits for the other person just outside of the door, so she is comfortable enough to stretch her hands and talk to herself. Eventually she gives up on the whole thing and walks back in the same direction she entered the elevator from.

She seems to be under the influence. That's my take, anyway.

i got a similar impression.
to me the brief shots of her face don't seem to show a person in terror.
she looked like she was playing hide and seek.
it made me wonder if she was perhaps tripping, or under the influence of something else.

does anyone know what her major was at UBC, and does it seem right that she'd be traveling during this part of the semester?
spring break perhaps?

Whoops it was in the second link:

A LinkedIn profile that appears to belong to Lam says she is expected to graduate in 2016, and a profile on the research-sharing website academia.edu that looks like Lam’s says she is interested in psychology research.

$65 a night is really cheap for LA, but no, it's not flop house rates. That used to be $11 in a building near there that I shot in a few years back. Actually it might have been like ten years ago.

I hate working dowm there. It's like a big open toilet, literally, in the worst parts. And now with the gentrification and the loft fad, all those trust funder hipsters who have moved in are making it even worse with their plethora of designer dogs who pee everywhere, with the per having nowhere to go except run down the alleys and sidewalks on little rivers. It seems a condition of acquiring a loft down there is to have at least 2 designer dogs for whom you hire a dogwalker because you're too busy with your hipster life to walk them yourself.

My take on first look of video is that she is really high, or drugged. Pity the poor girl and the people who drank the water.

Out of context, I agree with those here who find the video goofy, not terrifying.

By the way, THIS is why I don't drink tap water. Actually, when I was at university, after weeks of people complaining about the taste of city water, a DEAD MOOSE was found to have clogged the intake at the reservoir. Ever since then, the farthest I'll go with tap water is to wash my dishes and brush my teeth.

Spit, never swallow.

Cheers!

What could account for that behaviour? I'm thinking drugs. LSD, mushrooms, mescaline, or some such. She seems to be smiling at times, a bit wierded out and paranoid at times, and downright fascinated at moving her hands around at times. I wonder what the time lapse between this video and her ending up in the water tank is. It's not entirely out of the question that she did a bit of urban exploring and accidentally fell into the tank. Not out of the question at all of she's on psychedelics as it appears in the elevator video.

LAM-ELISA is a test for tuberculosis. Coincidence?
California: Tuberculosis Outbreak Among Homeless

By REUTERS

Published: February 22, 2013
Los Angeles County officials have asked for federal assistance in analyzing and containing an outbreak of tuberculosis among the city’s homeless population. Mabel Aragon, a spokeswoman for the county health department, said on Friday that the agency was still trying to confirm the number and type of cases. The Los Angeles Times reported that health workers had identified about 4,650 people who were probably exposed to the contagious disease on skid row in downtown Los Angeles. The United States had about 10,528 cases of tuberculosis in 2011, and there were 529 deaths from the disease in 2009, according to the latest full year for which statistics were available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
