Personally I couldn't care less if RI is a listening post. Everything posted here is already freely available. If they are monitoring people here then they are wasting their time. Everything done in this regard is just to justify their free profits/contracts. Read/post away!

I know someone who tried to donate money to RI back in the early days. Couldn't get Jeff to put up a "Donate" button for years. Always wondered where the money came from & why a shoestring operation wouldn't be interested.

Holy shit!

backtoiam, please take note of the "donate" button at the top right-hand side of the page. I'm sure Jeff will appreciate your kind gesture.

I just re-read Jeff's last epic post from September 1, 2011, because I was looking for some of his best work to share with a new friend whose intelligence I respect and admire. It seems like Jeff tried to say a bit about everything in We Are The Monsters We've Been Waiting For , and the title suggests a feeling of conclusion. Like he knew he'd be stepping away for awhile.

I'd love to hear any suggestions for what you think make up the best sample of Jeff's blog for me to share with my friend. I'd like to give her a sense of what is so intriguing and unique about RI. It's a good excuse to do some re-reading.

If you reverse that and try and pick out the 'bad' posts....personally I don't think there were/are any. I think a random pick of a dozen or so spread over the years Jeff posted would be as good a way as any to introduce your friend. However it is a tad mean to do that and at the same time tell them that there isn;'t any more where that came from.

It is a bit of a mystery as to why we don't here a peep from our esteemed blogger - I know at the beginning he talked about concentrating on his book and burn out but it is weird that nary a sentence or two has he posted in what? 2-3 years. Do any posters know Jeff IRL?....the more I think about it the stranger it feels ... ironic really a blog/forum with a conspiracy meme flowing through it has it's self started a conspiracy on it and the instigator (well it has in my head any way - to a small degree at any rate :coolshades

Curses. Foiled again.

I donated money several years ago through the donate button, and received a warm reply from Jeff.

I think seemslikeadream knows him in real life too. And maybe Smiles.

I personally find it hilarious to be cultlike with a founder in absentia. That would be the best way to have it, wouldn't it?

I constantly extract data from this place for use in projects. On a lighthearted note, I'm doing a once-a-day data visualization challenge, mostly mined from this place.

As for a "greatest hits", Secrets, I suggest taking a subject in which your friend already has an interest and trying to find a corresponding post. I've found that's the real entree into rigorous intuition. Once this place (version 1) kept coming up over and over again in my unusual and esoteric queries back around '05-'06, I finally determined to take the dive.

It's true, once I accomplished my long-running personal goals of transgender bathrooms and mandatory health care here in the US, I lost my way.

You can watch the change, over the years here at RI, from early, eager support for Bill Clinton and Barack Obama -- not to mention my fierce partisanship to the work of Noam Chomsky -- to the degenerate Koch operative you see before you today. Post after post, you can see the good will and NPR donations just...melt away.

It was inevitable, really.

Too many to list, §ê¢rꆧ, but here's one that I found particularly haunting, and not only because I was raised catholic:

I had of course heard of Our Lady of Fatima as a kid, but until Jeff wrote that post I had no idea how very strange the story is.

Whether or not this is still a listening post i don't know. Be disappointed if it wasn't.
recall Jeff posted a roll of interesting govt. addresses once, who had all been 'visiting'.....
might be salutory to do that agin - would fully expect we have dropped down the charts somewhat.....

11th of the9th you say?
when the day comes we have neither liberty nor time......wonder how we will berate ourselves for the frittering away of luxuries we'll never see again?
suspect the remorse will kill whatever spirit we might have had left.
Still - hope springs eternal an that - recently received my new copy of Maclellan's 'Lost world of Agharti'.
- tucked away in there, inconspicuous like, is *********** ****** ***** - and its not the Potala palace!

Which is where i'll be headed, probably on my own.Hope the trail mix lasts.

Jeff's still in the ether.

Had a request yesterday from him to connect on facebook, of all things.

Anyway, I heard he had a health issue last year, which I believe has sorted out.
