I am not posting on this thread because it is totally dominated at this point by just one view point and I can't make any point about logic, law or the facts without a huge smear campaign that is really really meaningless. How this case goes in court will be fascinating with many pros and cons. So I am only hear to mention that this obvious typo is corrected.

Kate Dixon

I regret that, and apologize if you felt smeared by me. I don't agree with your hypothesis regarding Hughes's immunity and I don't understand why you frame your critiques of what you perceive as various past and future flaws in the investigation and/or the case by highlighting Rachel's part in them, especially when she wasn't and/or won't be the person responsible for them. And I obviously have some problems wrt your conduct and judgment in those areas. But I'm really, sincerely not acting out of personal animosity. And I really, sincerely would rather be engaged in an amiable exchange of views than a bitch-slapping contest. So I wanted to tell you that. FWIW.

Apart from which....Since it does get pretty rough on this board sometimes, and since I've definitely felt genuinely injured by it on occasion, I'm certainly not going to minimize or dismiss your feelings or try to tell you they're unreasonable or anything like that. They're your feelings, and you should post or not post as the mood take you, obviously. But either way, I wanted to say that I was sorry that it was a painful experience for you. And either way, I also wanted to wish you well.

Best,

Well, I apologize for anything I did to 'bore' you. As I said before, I won't have a private conversation with them, so some of my replies to them were because of that. I also replied to others which may have sounded like s-throwing, when it was only to try and explain things (such as the emails).
Ok then, I will do as you said chiggerbit, and go find that other forum to post my project in (probably later today), I guess you could say it's become like my hobby, I'm excited about it, and it makes me happy. I appreciate you taking the time to point out the other forum for my project as well :) Thanks again Chiggerbit.

Hmm- not sure what I want to say in response, other than that this is not much of an "apology", really...

My sincere apologies. I do have feelings about all this, and it would probably have been better if I had said nothing at all...

Hey, perhaps all the s-throwers would like to see my other thread.
I'm curious who here is the most creative? What about you AD? Or Doogie, or even Chiggerbit?
How about we take a break from the excrement tossing and see who's ideas are creative?

I second that motion. All Dr. Doogie did was give his opinion on the veracity, or lack of, about a person's behavior and motives. Watching these AD poster child for board rules shows becomes creepier and creepier...AD ol buddy, you're nutwhackin out in the middle of your own thread, and you are not doing it any good ol chap...

Admit, that you must now keep this issue of immunity a secret. Then we all will know that the Octopus is no longer being "exposed" but is being "covered up" at least to the extent that the issue of Hughes' immunity is being covered up.

To me, this seems like a glaring contradiction. I had to read that three times to make sure it actually said what I thought it did. For a lawyer, and a person that professes to be attempting to "help" desertfae, I find this to be a very bizarre statement. No offense meant Ms. Dixon, but its very strange. Considering your stated desire to help Ms. Begley, I find some of the other things you have written here negatively provocative as well.

I'm with Barracuda on that one, quality decision. Good luck in your quest.

He has to be in California before they can set a hearing date, and I'm sure his atty(s) will stall as long as possible for that.

Suspect in 1981 tribal murders will be extradited

The Associated Press

Updated: 12/03/2009 06:57:20 AM PST

MIAMI—A Florida judge has ordered the extradition of a former tribal security official-turned-preacher accused of killing a Cabazon tribal leader and two friends in Southern California in 1981.

James "Jimmy" Hughes was arrested in September in Miami as he sat on a Honduras-bound plane. He appeared at his extradition hearing Thursday via closed circuit television from a Miami-Dade County jail.

Hughes did not speak during the hearing. His attorney said he was not fighting the extradition.

Assistant State Attorney Barbara Pineiro says Hughes will be sent back to California within 30 days.

Hughes faces three counts of murder and a count of conspiracy for allegedly killing Fred Alvarez to prevent him from exposing illegal reservation activities.

'Octopus Murders' suspect to return to Calif.

Monica Torline • The Desert Sun • December 3, 2009

James “Jimmy” Hughes, the only suspect arrested in a 1981 triple homicide known as the “Octopus Murders,” will return to California to face charges of conspiracy and murder.

Hughes, 52, appeared at his extradition hearing Thursday via closed circuit television from a Miami-Dade County jail. He did not speak during the proceedings. His attorney said he was not fighting the extradition.

Assistant State Attorney Barbara Pineiro says Hughes will be sent back to California within 30 days. Local authorities are not releasing information about when he will return to Riverside County.

“We’re going to keep it completely under wraps for officer safety,” said Riverside County Sheriff’s Det. John Powers.

Hughes faces one count of conspiracy and three counts of murder in connection with the killings of Cabazon Band of Mission Indians tribal leader Fred Alvarez, housemate Patricia Castro and friend Ralph Boger. They were all shot behind the home in Rancho Mirage where Alvarez was living.

The 28-year-old case is referred to as the "Octopus Murders" because of complex connections between the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, government agencies and a list of people rumored to be involved around the time of the killings.

Hughes was arrested on Sept. 26 at Miami International Airport. He was on his way to Honduras, where he runs a mission.

Rachel Begley — who was 13 when her father, Boger, was killed — has partnered with police to investigate the case. She found the evidence police needed for that arrest.

Begley, who now lives in the Louisville, Ky., area, was cautious Thursday, saying that police have built a solid case against Hughes but that she expects the case to be long delayed.

“I’ve been working really hard to try to get the ball rolling the whole time he’s been in Florida, so it’s nice that it’s finally moving, but I don’t expect this will be the end of the stalling,” she said.

The California Attorney General's Office will handle prosecution because of a conflict of interest with the Riverside County District Attorney's Office.

Hughes is related to District Attorney Rod Pacheco.

Powers, who will personally pick up Hughes from Florida, said the attorney general’s office asked that he not release details about their trip.

Hughes likely will be booked in a jail in Riverside and later be transported to Indio, where his case will be heard.

An extradition hearing is scheduled for Jan. 5 in Florida, according to the Miami-Dade County Clerk of Courts.

Terry Chavez, spokeswoman for Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, said the hearing is a formality to make sure that a defendant has been picked up following a judge’s order for extradition.

“We don’t like to just let the ball drop,” she said.

Desert Sun reporter Kate McGinty and the Associated Press contributed to this report.
