Wow, that is just a fine example of the hard-hitting, pound the bricks investigative journalism-at-it's-finest that we have come to expect form the boyish Mr. Cooper, et al.

For six years before reporting for duty at Fort Hood, in July, Hasan worked at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center pursuing his career in psychiatry, as an intern, a resident and, last year, a fellow in disaster and preventive psychiatry. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001.
At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades.
They had not confirmed Hasan is the author of the posting, and a formal investigation had not been opened before the shooting, said law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case.

I'd be willing to bet most of the casualties involved defensive fire from the other shooters who were subsequently released and/or the civilian police officer who eventually brought Hasan down. The story is being told as "gunman kills 13, wounds 30", but as of yet, we haven't heard ANY reports from inside the room where the incident occurred. There is a tremendous amount of damage control going on right now, either to maintain secrecy on the names of the cowboys who undoubtably contributed to the bloodbath (more likely), or to disguise the possibilty that there were other shooters on Hasan's team (less likely). Until we hear some plausible reports from first-hand witnesses, I don't think it makes any sense to assume Hasan fired all the shots that caused the injuries.

He's a military product all the way. 100%. Who does mind control? The military and the CIA, using soldiers as guinea pigs. I really wanted to see where he went to medical school, and there it is -- he went to the military's very own medical school. How did he get in there? How was he chosen? What did they see in him that made them pick him for what is presumably a scholarship? At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades.

So they were watching him. Why? Because they've BEEN watching him since he came under their control, when he was in medical school.
At the very least, this is sneaky propaganda right here -- he was being watched by "law enforcement officials". Big Brother. Big Brother = Good! is what the article is saying (and this is the AP, the official propagandist for the neo-cons, has been for years now).
I've said it before and I'll say it again -- to me this is the scariest part of this whole thing, that he was being monitored, watched, his BLOG POSTINGS were under the watchful eye of "law enforcement officials".
Then you've got your Sirhan Sirhan parallels with him being from Palestinian, and his mother having been greatly disturbed by the violence in her time there.
How much you want to bet this guy, if he recovers, will have no memory of this event?
And again, there's all the other stuff, the obvious stuff, how could this one cherubic psychiatrist have shot so many people, how did he stop and reload, etc. etc. etc. And of course the whole "men in black" who took the other "suspect" away in a Crown Victoria ......
Who were the men in the suits? On a MILITARY BASE? I grew up on military bases, guys in suits were almost always high-ranking government officials OR military contractors. And why did they have the jurisdiction to take away someone who was under the control of the MP's?
And the propaganda value of this is simply enormous. This is the perfect "terrorist attack" for the PTB. On an Army base, by a soldier who "cowardly" didn't want to go to war and fight "his own people" i.e. "The ENEMY" and "proves" that he's the enemy beyond the shadow of any doubt.
I mean .. WOW. Sure accidents happen, but again this is like the "winning the Trifecta" all over again.

When that 19 year old in Omaha 2 years ago when on a shooting rampage, it was understandable how he was able to shoot so many people...as well, it was a mall. But a military center, seems like everyone has guns and training.
From what I hear, he literally just snapped...almost like he was triggered. No fight, no anything
Also...I see "13 dead" and "33 dead" a lot in news reports of various events...
Probe: Did Fort Hood shooter act alone?
Published: Nov. 7, 2009 at 8:11 AM
FORT HOOD, Texas, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Investigators at Fort Hood, Texas, are looking into whether Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan acted alone in a shooting spree that killed 13 people, sources say.
Citing an unnamed law enforcement official in Washington, The New York Times reported Saturday that an early search of Hasan's computer didn't reveal any direct exchanges with known terrorists before he allegedly opened fire at the base, wounding at least 30 others in addition to the fatalities.
But the official also said investigators had yet to gain a complete record of Hasan's Internet use, noting he had multiple e-mail accounts and had used computers in several locations, the Times reported.
The newspaper said the FBI became aware of an Internet writer by the name of Nidal Hassan who had posted comments that seemed to view suicide bombings in a favorable light. But they are not sure if the postings were from the 39-year-old Army psychiatrist accused in the shooting spree.
Hassan -- shot four times -- remained on a ventilator Saturday.
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, said Friday it was still unclear if Hasan had acted alone, telling the Times, "That is not a question that has been resolved."

Army Col.: Hasan Appeared to Be a ‘Dedicated Professional’
By WSJ Staff
Col. Kimberly Kesling, deputy commander of clinical services at Darnall Army Medical Center, the hospital at Ft. Hood, said Friday morning Maj. Hasan had appeared to be a dedicated professional. She described him as quiet, respectful and appropriate in attire and demeanor since arriving on base in July.
“To date, he had been performing quite well,” Col. Kesling said.
His job as a psychiatrist was intense, she said; some Army mental-health professionals experience burnout from the burden of hearing so many horror stories from traumatized veterans. But she had seen no sign that Maj. Hasan was under that type of stress.
“It’s a shock,” she said. “You would hope you never know someone who would have such a demon.”
News that the suspected shooter was an Army psychiatrist alarmed Sgt. Howard Appleby, an Iraq veteran who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and had been seeing a military psychiatrist daily since returning from the war last summer.
On Thursday, he was turned away at the hospital door as he walked in for his regular appointment, told that it had been postponed due to an emergency. He drove to the scene and began helping triage victims and load them into ambulances.
Friday morning, Sgt. Appleby said he was not sure he wanted to return to his regular schedule of Army counseling.
“They need to evaluate all psychiatrists,” he said. “I’m thinking twice about going to a psychiatrist now.”

Details emerge about Fort Hood suspect's history
By BRETT J. BLACKLEDGE (AP) – 54 minutes ago
He served eight years as an enlisted soldier. Military records show he also served in the ROTC as an undergraduate at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and received a bachelor's degree in biochemistry there in 1997.
But college officials said Friday that Hasan graduated with honors in biochemistry in 1995 and there was no record of him serving in any ROTC program.
He previously had attended Barstow Community College in Barstow, Calif., and Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, Va., according to Virginia Tech records.
Associated Press writers Lara Jakes, Pam Hess, Lolita C. Baldor and Brett Zongker in Washington; Alicia Chang in Los Angeles; Sue Lindsey in Roanoke, Va.; April Castro in Killeen, Texas; and AP's News Research Center in New York contributed to this report.

I wonder what's up with the two year and ROTC discrepancies
Institute for Defense and Homeland Security
On February 7th, Governor Mark R. Warner announced the creation of the Virginia Institute for Defense and Homeland Security (IDHS), a consortium of Virginia universities partnering with industry to develop solutions to our nation's security challenges. The interdisciplinary consortium is intended to facilitate collaborative, cutting-edge basic and applied research that would be extremely difficult to accomplish at individual institutions, labs, or firms. Initially, it will emphasize research in the fields of Information Technology & Telecommunications, Bio-defense, Sensor Systems, and Risk Assessment and Management.....
Structure & Funding
Funding for the institute will come from the federal government, Virginia's universities, Virginia's Center for Innovative Technology, and private sector companies. Virginia's IDHS strategy is to identify and respond to agency solicitations in areas of university core competency across all agencies, including the newly formed Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency, and applications for university-based centers for homeland security. In parallel with these efforts, IDHS will work with Virginia's Congressional Delegation to obtain seed funds for specific projects of interest to federal agencies....
