FWIW. My stepdaughter, who is 16 now, and seemingly all of her peers are really into black guys. Many of them are already dating black guys. And its not because mommy and daddy disapproves, or because its rebellious or anything like that, but because (as far as I can tell) because black guys tend to be bigger and stronger and have better bodies than the scrawny white boys they go to school with. These girls are really into the physical appearances of the boys, their bodies, almost in ways that we associate with how boys look at young women. They're really into muscles and especially "abs" and the "sixpack". Also many of them actually watch those godawful Kardashian sisters, and that's had a big influence. Also the status of the black sports stars such as Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom is a big part of this new acceptance.

Its very different from when I was their age. Very different. Granted this might be in part due to my location, on the white westside of los angeles, I don't know.

Right. But that's exactly why we don't want to pretend that this isn't what it is:

Fox News Commenters Respond to Whitney Houston’s Death With Deluge of Hatred and Racism
What right wing racism?

Charles Johnson

I don’t even know what to say about this any more. There’s a real sickness running rampant in the right wing; the Fox News comment thread on Whitney Houston’s death is yet another disgusting deluge of outright racism: Singer Whitney Houston Dies at 48 | Fox News.

There are almost 5000 comments posted in the thread — these are from the first few pages. Notice that the racist bastards deliberately misspell their slurs or insert random spaces, so they aren’t caught by word filters. And many of the worst comments have numerous “likes” from other commenters.

A tragedy is when someones passes away from a terminal disease or something else that no one saw coming.Whitney is just an inferior lo w life ni gg er that needed to go,no tragedy,no loss.

Here is the link to the Fox News article:

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/20 ... ies-at-48/

It looks like comments have been disabled.

My guess is that the article was probably linked by Drudge. Click on almost any Drudge headline and you will find these idiots posting the most fucked up comments you can imagine.

I take it for granted that people are paid to "influence" public opinion by controlling the comments on articles based off of Drudge links. It's probably a group of 5 losers controlling 10 or 20 personas each. I know that is not the whole story, but I'd bet the mortgage it plays a role.

Just got on my big computer (as opposed to my blackberry) and found out it was originally from Little Green Footballs.

You would expect those kind of comments at LGF, not a column bemoaning them.

But that's Fox News' "base". It needs to be exposed as much as possible.

It's quite amazing the amount of progress, as it were, that Charles Johnson has made since he realized he was surrounded by crazzeee azz wingnuts.

He is kinda why, I see more eye to eye with conservatives than liberals anymore. Oh, have no doubt about it, me be liberal, but we're all noticing everything, little by little being whittled away. There are smart people, people who intend on understanding and those who are completely batshit insane who do anything they are told.

So it occurred to me after reading most of LGF's comments and from just life in general, the people who really give a fuck are beginning to coalesce.

We're sick of douchebags.

We're sick of racism.

We're sick of corporate greed.

We're sick of people telling us cons and libs that gay people are fucking evil.

We're sick of the "wars".

We're aware of our history.

And we're wired.

You can't fucking re-stupid a population of people who already know under an antiquated rubric.

I, for instance hated soldiers -- anyone in the military -- in like 2002. Now I know many and it just isn't an issue anymore -- war. They are humans and boy do most seem emotionally beaten and/or reserved.

This country has been psychologically fucked with and we all see this in each and every one of our's sadness we all carry.

There is something arising. Humanity wins. . .

As long as we stick together, through thick and thin.

But we don't want to "win". We want it to change to something more natural. Much like when a bird or squirrel is born, it simply lives and sings free from the constraints of the bullshit of time. . .
There is no me. There is no you. There is all. There is no you. There is no me. And that is all. A profound acceptance of an enormous pageantry. A haunting certainty that the unifying principle of this universe is love. -- Propagandhi

Sorry not to have responded more promptly, I was offline....I had the link embedded in the text, at the beginning. (In the word "this.") And I do that pretty often. But I don't think I'm going to do it anymore!

So. Live and learn. My apologies for the delay.

Sim, has your friend ever visited when you had other friends over, or invited you to a gathering of his friends? Just wondering. I wonder how he would act if you approached him at church, when he's with his peers? Perhaps he's really locked firmly in the closet? Many possibilities, and no need to doubt you or to doubt your friendship with the fellow.
Perhaps you'd be so bold as to ask him how he feels about voting for someone who would wish harm to befall you, you know, just because you're you?

Sorry, but I had to skip over the blog comments, though I did catch a few.

I need to preserve my illusion of being able to reach out and sway the opinions of such folk. You know, to convince them that it's in their best interest to love my gay brothers and lesbian sisters, my daughter and her black husband and my darker skinned than mine grandchildren, my Jewish and Spanish speaking inlaws, my atheist anti-nuke pacifist Quaker friends, and my Muslim friends and their supporters opposing their preemptive prosecutions.

It's not an aberration though. In accordance with my new LINKING policy, please allow me to reiterate:

It's not limited to stories about Whitney Houston. Try browsing around a little here:

Oh, I agree. I didn't at all post those comments as a way of saying: "Look at these awful people, don't you just HATE them?" That's not how I think or feel about it at all. On the contrary, I think and feel that they're my brothers-and-sisters-in-humankind. Some of them are probably very much like people whom I've known to be lovely individuals within the very limited sphere of our shared interactions. Because I have known some people who thought and spoke that way. Although not at length in my presence, since my standard response to first usage of hate-speech in my hearing (under circumstance in which I believe -- for whatever reason -- that argument would be futile or harmful) is a polite but very clear and unambivalent request not to use those words when speaking to me.

But still. I have encountered it. I mean, there are just some parts of the country (and the world) where you can't really entirely avoid it, in my experience. And besides that -- for reasons that I wish I knew, so that I could do something about them -- I've always been the kind of person that random strangers suddenly decide to tell their innermost thoughts and comprehensive life stories to without being asked.

Anyway. What I think and feel is that they're just fucked-up people, for the most part. IOW: Same as me, but different.

I don't know. Maybe that's just my way of preserving the illusion that I can reach out and make a difference of some kind for the better. But fwiw, it wasn't at all my intention to be divisive, or to stir the shit, or anything along those lines. I'm actually rooting for the solution, not the problem. Believe it or not.

And here's a song for you:

It's a personal favorite.
