Anyway's there's this:

UC Davis Professor Demands Chancellor Resign Over Pepper Spraying Of Students

Already posted that when it broke, 82-28(see page 135). But it bears repeating. So thanks.
Actually there are a few repeats, but thats how it is. We all don't catch/read everything posted, or remember all (so much going on), we all want to share what impresses us, so it just happens.

Thanks for posting your report Aurataur.

I will just say a few words on the various locations phenomena. This is all impromtu. Remember, they were hastily started as support for the attack on OWS. Not every place should do or CAN do what OWS can. Vice versa. Some places are natural satellite locations, some you wonder 'why bother there'? But we know why. As a show of support. I said maybe a hundred pages ago I did not see the ability to support the infrastructure of 1000's of various locations long term. The resources, logistics, etc. It was all a sympathy move to support the OWS though. I will not judge what is going on elsewhere and just see what happens, support what I like and absorb the beauty even in failure/learning. In New Orleans for example, a 'march' is really a Parade. We have so many here. Police escorts even, blocking traffic and intersections. We are professional 'marchers' here. It has much less impact, but it needs to be done as an act. I could go on, by why? Its all just a warm up act for what is to come. This wave will eventually recede, and the next wave will be much larger, until we actually DO flood the system. It will get worse. Its coming. The system isn't going to change until we make it. The systems' inertia will plow it forward. Us early adopters to OWS are awake and our job is to be there for when others do. Some out there are sacrificing a lot. By their example do we follow.
I'm not a smart man, and just throwing out a few thoughts. I am creative though, and can appreciate what this all is. I will stop now as I am far enough out on this ledge for my comfort. I will support OWS and what they do, everywhere. Edited to add more noise, just think how far this has come in 2 months. This is a baby. It was unimaginable by 99.9% just 3-4 months ago. With our input guidance, hopefully baby will learn and grow. We will learn from baby too.

And before I forget or it gets too far back in the pages, as an eye glass wearer, I thought this a very effective modification. It needs some tweaking, and structure reinforcement. I suggest leaving the bridge of the nose intact and doing two holes. Then using a plastic/rubber split tubing to line the edges (to prevent skin irritation). Not sure of the aesthetics of that though. I'd want to see how that would look and test it.

John Robb weighs in:
http://globalguerrillas.typepad.com/glo ... e-ows.html

OCCUPY NOTE 11/20/11: Boyd, Pepper Spray and Tools of Compliance #ows

This is what happens when authority is unaccountable and has lost any sense of human connection to a subject population James Fallows, the celebrated American author and columnist.

It appears that Occupy's extreme non-violence/passivity has finally generated a social system disruption. A series of videos and pictures showing policemen using violence against passive protesters have gone viral (UC Berkley, Gradma, and open mouth were the media elements that kicked it off, something we saw emerge with Momentum a couple of days ago). Stories are now sweeping the media (7,910 news stories over the last 24 hours). Is this going to have a strategic effect?

Let's look at this from the late, great American strategist John Boyd's perspective. The dynamic of Boyd's strategy is to isolate your enemy across three essential vectors (physical, mental, and moral), while at the same time improving your connectivity across those same vectors. It's very network centric for a pre-Internet theoretician. Here's more detail what disconnection looks like:

Physical isolation is accomplished by severing communications both to the outside world (ie. allies) and internal audiences (ie. between branches of command and between the command organization and its supporters).

Mental isolation is done through the introduction of ambiguous information, novel situations, and by operating at a tempo an enemy cannot keep up with. A lack of solid information impedes decision making.
Moral isolation is achieved when an enemy improves its well being at the expense of others (allies) or violates rules of behavior they profess to uphold (standards of conduct). Moral rules are a very important reference point in times of uncertainty. When these are violated, it is very hard to recover.
Was it effective?

Using John Boyd's framework as a guide, this media disruption did have an effect across all three vectors:

Physical. No isolation was achieved. The physical connections of police forces remained intact. However, these incidents provided confirmation to protesters that physical filming/imaging of the protests is valuable. Given how compelling this media is, it will radically increase the professional media's coverage of events AND increase the number of protesters recording incidents.

Mental. These incidents will cause confusion within police forces. If leaders (Mayors and college administrators) back down or vacillate over these tactics due to media pressure, it will confuse policemen in the field. In short, it will create uncertainty and doubt over what the rules of engagement actually are. IN contrast, these media events have clarified how to turn police violence into useful tools for Occupy protesters.

Moral. This is the area of connection that was damaged the most. Most people watching these videos feel that this violence is both a) illegitimate and b) excessive. Watch this video UC Davis Chancellor Katehi walking from her building after the incident. The silence is eerie.

This can be counted as a win for Occupy and a loss for totalitarianism. However, we've been sliding towards totalitarianism for decades (from caged protest zones, storm trooper attire, urban tanks, bans on pictures, a plethora of laws/regulations against assembly, Presidential assassination lists, closed courts, no warrant searches, CCTV coverage, attempts to ban private ownership of weapons, SWAT for even tiny cities, indefinite detention, rendition, etc.). So, in relative terms, this is a very small win.

Thanks for the personal story, Cedars. I know well that just because a person's politics are to the left and they publicly preach love doesn't mean they're a safe or healthy person.

Cedars of Overburden wrote:Even though I was bitchy -- telling him having leaders was a normal human condition, whether anyone has the grasp of reality to know it or not -- "tell me who's the alpha male here? who's the alpha female? Come on, it's standard primate biology and I can tell you're smart enough to know exactly what I mean ... "

Whatever your mood, I agree with you, it's written in our every movement. You can't wish it away anymore than you can wish away your skin color. We can attempt to create systems that mitigate these tendencies somewhat, in a productive ways, but not without a great deal of vigilance.

I am ashamed to say that I have not initiated what I view as the most obvious and essential of occupy actions, going around my neighborhood and finding empty spaces for the homeless to access. I do not want to get arrested, I am afraid I would be disappeared. I wish someone would do this however, even if for one night, take everyone lying in doorways and let them occupy one of the dozens of empty buildings.

Warning: Graphic.

Boots Riley:

Disturbing images from Tahrir Square in Cairo, Egypt today. Police beating and shooting protesters.

All over the world from Oakland, to Dallas, to NYC, to Cairo-
The 1% is cracking down on movements that threaten it's rule.

Often, one is left feeling like there is nothing one can do.

But you can do something, join the international movement that aims, eventually, to wrestle the wealth out of the hands of the 1%.

This is a worldwide historical moment.
Some of these folks being beaten could possibly have taken part in the march in solidarity with Occupy Oakland.

What we are doing here has already affected the world and inspired millions. It will continue to do so.

What are you gonna do?

Join Occupy Oakland or any of the nationwide outposts of the Occupy Wall Street movement, if you haven't already.

Being involved with change is being in the moment.

There are two very big things coming up for Occupy Oakland and OWS:

December 6: the National Home Re-Occupation day for foreclosed homes.
Help us move families, who have been evicted due to foreclosure, back into their homes.

December 12: Occupy Oakland, OccupyLA, and members of the ILWU have called for an entire West Coast Port Shut-Down as part of the battle to stop EGT in Longview, Washington from their union busting practices against the longshoremen.

These are two mass actions with clear cut goals.
Help make them happen.

Yes. That sustained silence is an amazing thing. You could call it a work of art, but it's the kind of thing that makes most contemporary artworks look vain or obsolete or superfluous or worse.

Congressman Joe Walsh held a Town Hall meeting in Gurnee on November 19th and fielded questions from the well attended audience regarding 'Occupy Wall Street" and gave his opinion. This is just a short segment of the entire meeting which will be available later. (we will post a link here at that time)

I was at the Gracie Mansion (Mayor's crib) protest today with about 200 other protesters.

The mayor didn't make an appearance, but one of his lackeys did.

That's one of my favourite placards from OWS, and not just because it's funny. It's precise in its impreciseness. It's a quiet and definite fuck off. It's a wise refusal of what is disingenuously called rational discussion.

You don't make demands of someone who has already bled your parents to death and who is now starting in on your children. You don't enter into negotiations. You do something else, or else you submit to it and beg for mercy, inevitably in vain.

What does this sound like? To me it sounds like war. I can't think of a better word for it. Surely that's what it is.

The big question is whether this war (uniquely) can be won by peaceful means alone, especially when you look at the opposition, and their previous murderous form, and what they have to lose.
