I certainly can't explain it, Jack. But this all hinges upon the "unknowabliity" of surface and air. I watch birds all the time and I can't figure them out. Yet their main purpose appears to be a continual battle. Early bird gets the worm type shit.

I see robins just sit solitary with no friends around, while crows and seagulls battle it out in the skies. My point is that it is in the unknowable nature of the skies as typically ground based humans see no perspective of.

My brother maintains this is "impossible" for a state of the art jet to be lost at all. I believe him. It is impossible for a 777-200 to just get lost. Our hint is in the potential of unknowingness and what not knowing means as far as what we know. It is the spectacle that we should be focused on.
There is no me. There is no you. There is all. There is no you. There is no me. And that is all. A profound acceptance of an enormous pageantry. A haunting certainty that the unifying principle of this universe is love. -- Propagandhi

Anyone mentioned the 25 metre piece of 'some thing' floating on the sea that's been picked up by spotter planes now?

Live - MH370: two objects relating to missing Malaysia Airways plane may have been found

Australia’s maritime search agency are now focusing all of their resources on finding two objects picked up on satellite images that they believe could be related to the missing Malaysia Airlines plane. Here’s the latest summary of events:

A search is now underway for what Australian authorities believe is a “credible” sighting of two objects that may be from the missing plane. In a press conference on Thursday the general manager of Australia’s maritime safety agency, John Young, said An expert analysis of satellite imagery by Australia’s Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation believes that the images show “a possible indication of debris” that could be from the plane.

An Australian aircraft is now at the scene, and a United States Poseidon vessel is also attending the operation. Two other aircraft, including one from New Zealand, are flying to the location, and a navy vessel is also en-route. Australia has received a number of offers of assistance from other nations to assist in the search operation.

The possible sighting was believed to be “a promising lead,” according to Air Commodore John McGarry, who was also at the press conference on Thursday. He added that defence officials were working towards releasing some of the satellite images to the public.

The announcement comes shortly after Australia’s maritime authority said that the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight off the coast in Australia had halved in size and moved closer to Perth. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority general manager John Young provided a video update of the search operation on Wednesday, which showed that the initial search zone off Australia - an area of some 600,000 sq km - had been reduced to roughly 300,000 square kilometres and had been moved to 2300 kilometres off the coast of Perth.

"An expert analysis of satellite imagery by Australia’s Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation believes that the images show 'a possible indication of debris' that could be from the plane." Not too many weasel words there. :hamster:

Just a couple of points:

1) I love the "possible routes" from the NTSB here: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/australasia/malaysia-airlines-flight-mh370-australia-checking-two-objects-in-search-for-plane-9204132.html These are just straight lines drawn from the last known position to the supposed debris.

2) There is enough debris floating around in the oceans of the world to fill a dozen landfills. How many tidal waves have there been in that part of the world over the last 20 years? It's fortunate that the resolution of these satellites isn't better. We'd have folks seeing wreckage in floating islands of styrofoam cups.

3a) The last known satellite handshake was supposedly made from the ground. 3b) The last course of the plane was toward the northwest. 3c) The track from last position to supposed debris field would have taken the plane back over Malaysian territory. None of these details fit together very well. Dollars to donuts none of the "debris" will ever be associated with a part number, as with the 9/11 "wreckage." I am still amazed that folks can look at the photo of an FBI agent carrying a piece of airplane around at the Pentagon and not understand its significance (moving evidence and planting evidence were both crimes last time I looked).

4) The posters at The Independent have already decided that this must be the plane and are now trashing all of those terrible "conspiracy theorists," as if finding part of the plane in the ocean somehow negates a nefarious motive on the part of more than one person. One continues to wonder why simple logical deduction isn't taught in the schools. One would think that the recent interest in all things Sherlock would have had some effect by now. I guess that rational thought is still the province of fictional characters.

Whats weird is I was listening to the radio last night and they were reporting that planes were flying 1000 feet above the 'wreckage' and could see it clearly and more information would follow.....it didn't or I fell asleep , it was 12,30am. An yet in the report it says it was cloudy and nothing could be seen clearly.....

They have a word for this kind of photographic "evidence" over at Cryptomundo: Blobsquatch!

Seriously, though, if this thing didn't look relatively rectalinear it would be just another wave pattern. I would recommend the film Blowup with David Hemmings and Vanessa Redgrave for those interested in what the mind can do with random patterns in photos and artworks.

Hypnagogic hallucination?

Hypnagogic or hypnopompic hallucinations are visual, tactile, auditory, or other sensory events, usually brief but occasionally prolonged, that occur at the transition from wakefulness to sleep (hypnagogic) or from sleep to wakefulness (hypnopompic). The phenomenon is thought to have been first described by the Dutch physician Isbrand Van Diemerbroeck in 1664. The person may hear sounds that are not there and see visual hallucinations. These visual and auditory images are very vivid and may be bizarre or disturbing. --http://www.patient.co.uk

I have had many of these in my life, most of which involved memories of events that never happened, at least consciously remembered. The memories are so clear that I have, on occasion, wondered if they didn't constitute a window onto some alternate reality.

So that's where Pinky is. Tell her to come home, her mail's piling up and I need the March rent cheque. Ask her about the plane, she's good with mysteries. Thx.
