Funny you guys should mention this. Maybe this should be in a separate thread.

I am alarmed and dismayed to watch my stepdaughter buy into a lot of these cultural traps. For instance, you may or may not have heard of Rebecca Black, a high school rich girl in Orange County, whose parents shelled out a few thousand bucks so she could make her own music video.

It's so dreadful it's funny. However, the girls are fascinated by it because it's had over 100 million hits and they keep talking about how famous she is. Like that's a good thing. Like it's something they would like to have, even if it meant making a shitty, shallow, stupid music video on youtube.

If you haven't wanted to "eat the rich" before, after watching this you'll be salivating.

Probably. Rebecca Black has very little relationship to the OP.

Lifelong Californian, bro, born and raised. Seen it all. Miss Black is hardly the antichrist.

Fuck, that's spooky barracuda. And that's the kind of music I grew up loving, as in training myself to like evil seeming industrial punk. Now I hear their "prophecies".

Thing is, those motherfuckers were intelligent and unconventional in their talents. Miss Black, could actually really be a minion of the antichrist. No, I do not mean that in any more jest than anything else these days. She could fucking be.

If thirteen-year-old bubblegum pop singers are your idea of minions of the antichrist, you must have a rather disturbingly low threshold for the apocalyptic.

As for the Kardashians, I find the adage of "knowing thine enemy" to be actually beneficial.

For instance, a few weeks ago I was walking through Manhattan and passed a line filled with preteen girls waiting behind a velvet rope in the middle of the afternoon, with a huge bouncer talking to them. As I passed, I realized that it was Dash, the Kardashian sisters' store. So all of these 12- and 13-year old girls were waiting in line to see some women who were famous, and who even had a store, because one of them (the best-looking one) was in a sex tape with the brother of an R+B singer from the 90's.

How can you battle against the huge scourge that this causes without knowing that? Those details are largely representative of our slide towards idiocracy, but if you miss them, you're just kind of left making guesses.

Uh, yeah. You got that out of what I wrote? There was some tongue in cheek there dawg. It was even included in my comment. Nevertheless, yes, this is how I envision this "antichrist" would come to us, through avenues one would least suspect. The antichrist needn't even be a singular person either. You're the one who used the term anyhow. I don't even "believe" in the appearance of this "antichrist". Though I think such a thing is quite possible, because of, yes, "minions". And if there is an "antichrist", I believe this antichrist is amidst us today -- via such a low threshold of the recognition of evil.

And furthermore, I believe you're the one at the very beginning of this thread who belittled and guffawed at my position on porn in the first place and stated that you thought that anyone (a man) who would take my position was lying. That was months ago and no, I'm not going to go find it. I did try to stay on topic until it just felt my opinion was no longer wanted in this thread. All I did just now was dip in once again as I happen to agree with Nordic and see little value in someone's rebuttal to his point consisting of "So-Cal, born and raised bro".

Having recently experienced the early teenage culture firsthand as a parent, I don't feel ignorant of the above. Just a question of the grain of detail you really need to know. How you battle against it is you teach the basic critical thinking skills, push'em to watch some challenging stuff in addition to the crap they want, and devise activities to keep'em away and in nature. I succeeded partially with each of those. Now it's out of my hands, pretty much. They grow up and usually start making fun of the crap they used to like.

Anyway, I was kidding above about being proud and wonderful just because I managed to avoid knowing who KK actually is. It's still easy to avoid a lot of crap, we're still pretty much in control of how much and what we take in personally.

Whoa. What an incipient avalanche of utter humorlessness. No wonder you don't like porn - if you're doin' it right, it's supposed to be fun.

While I find nothing catchy about that "Rebecca Black", and I generally hate mainstream pop music(tho I do like that new Katy Perry "ET" song and video)
I do give her "props" for getting a zillion views with no big company pushing it. The power of youtube: You can be an overnight star with no money spent on advertising.

Oh man I LOVE Skinny Puppy, used to be one of my favorite bands. Got to see them a few times back in the day.

Though to me their creepiest/most awesome song was "Love In Vein"

But I love the parapolitical/anti neocon/anti war theme of Greater Wrong of the Right in 2004

My fave song from that
"Do you know who I am? I am the arm, and I sound like this..."-man from another place, twin peaks fire walk with me

Yeah but my question is: WHY IS THAT CONSIDERED A GOOD THING?

It's just a couple of steps below shooting the Pretzeldent in order to be famous. There is zero value to what this girl did. Other than get a million Youtube hits. Why is that considered valuable in our culture?

I think the fact that it's considered valuable is sick as all hell.
