I didn't read the thread with Hugh that you are referring to, so what I'm about to say is not about that, but rather, about the board and life in general.

I'd like to make a friendly suggestion - I.e. that Jeff, the mods and anyone else who is interested, get a hold of copies of 2 books by Patrica Evans: "The Verbally Abusive Relationship" and "Controlling People" and read them.

There is a method to the madness of verbal and psychological abuse. In these books, Evans dissects, the blocking, diverting, silent treatment, etc, etc, etc, that is, the whole spectrum of components that make up verbally abusive relationships. The mechanics of verbal and psychological abuse are not widely known. If we learn to spot these behaviors and change them (or avoid people who are indulging in them), things will get better fast.

See? This is why we can't have nice things, such as a server and database that satisfactorily perform the functions of hurting our feelings from time to time. I've come to recognize that this is one of the negatives about this dump. As if a dump needed anymore negatives as it was.

I understand what you're saying Montag and appreciate your presence.

My my my, look at 82_28 (aka "Mr Empathy") call the kettle black, on an extra-funny joke no less.

Montag, I welcome your return.

I was snarkin' it up at the time with Wombaticus because I misunderstood a comment he made on another thread. I thought it had something to do with comparing me to Mr. Knife. It wasn't and I duly apologized in that thread and appreciated what his point was. Also, to Wombaticus, no need to think I was remotely coming down on you or that you have to even think I had anything to do with me thinking you're lame or some shit. I thought it was just a good place to insert a joke -- I half meant it. But it was only a joke in the end. I support both Wombaticus and Montag is what I was saying. But the those are the only two people I support here, besides my lame ass friend "Pickle Pizza" who I sent a link to of that Ev3nt thread and promptly signed up to make fun of me with that Palin pic. We'll see what he has up his sleeve in the future I suppose.

And no, I don't think that Wombat is black, crikket. He looks pretty pasty to me.

Oh, I know. But there's truth in all our jokes, elsewise they wouldn't be quite so funny. Just in a reflective mood today, no harm no foul.

I applaud u montag for what you said and think that some will benefit from the underlying message that lies within it.

I have to second with Rex but go further than words on a screen with "people on the net, people on the net, people on the net".

RI is a wealth of information and many rabbit holes to be fall down in. I'm sorry to say but some take it way too seriously while In this place and the only truth you need to see that is how certain folks reply to certain topics and the tone in which they write. I knew most of the shit I tend to believe in before I got here to RI and started lurking. The only truth that matters is your truth and what you believe in your own life.

There is no truth in RI. There is opinion, conjecture and hypothesis. Once you realize this it allows you to move past the childish and ignorant behaviour that goes on here. Take it for what it is worth, a resource to be used with questioning mind and a rigorous intuition.

There are things outside, there are things inside. Some are mere relics, others are more invasive. You try to put something out of the house, but somehow it comes back in. Oh, you must only have thought you took it out and it converted to memory without action.

It is like waking up one day, your face in pancakes, somewhere you have never been. You know if you ask the waitress, "where am I? How did I get here?" you will disturb whatever balance in effect that allowed you to be there for however long with your face in what you must presume are your pancakes. You stumble outside and look for the memory of what was your car and find it in a lot a block away. You have travelled 175 miles south without any memory of it, you realize, as you recognize the bridges.

Who knows what happened to you? Who knows what you did?

Message to RIers

This comment of mine is so far off topic, but I'll give the idea a quick run about.

I’m always trying to catch up, and that’s why I read RI: to find out what the heck it is I missed when my attention over the years would rather have been in worlds of ideas that only the 9/11 experience could have directed my attention; and it did. Hence, the phrase “double-bind ironic sarcasm” is a perfect example of another good self-assigned project an understanding of which for me to grok group think, still again.

So, you know, not knowing where to search first, I just ggld “double-bind ironic sarcasm” and the first hit was Google Books: Hybrid Fictions: American Literature and Generation X By Daniel Grassian. Page 70. That referenced page would indicate still another almost hidden psychological realm of an egregore as complex as it has become, I think.

It’s a crapshoot Montag because we all draw different lines.
I’m not much into CT, but how some folk get away with criminal activities is of interest, so I do like to hear about details and am seldom offended by the speculations and attempted tie-ins of others. I draw no lines, only circles.

I’m one of those older folks so clue me in, is Ahabsotherleg’s comment an example of that double-bind ironic sarcasm?

As Dennis from Oregon would say, shine on brave souls, I love you all. :thumbsup :praybow

listen, the really great thing about this site is its intelligence and the fact that it doesn't qualify as a "conspiracy theory" site a la prison planet and Wayne madsen. I for one would like to keep it that way. I'm not here to be entertained by conspiro porn , I'm here to get at truth, with some of the best minds I know. What bothered me about montag recently was his suggestion, and perhaps I misunderstood him, was his suggestion that he liked madsen because he was entertaining. Great. I've been seriously misled by madsen in the past, enough to realize that he simply can't be trusted. Just look up his 29 million dollar check story from 2004. I don't have any more time today but that might be enough to illustrate what I'm getting at

As a boy he swallowed his magic decoder ring. He did not tell anyone, preferring not to risk the inevitable opprobrium that would follow the how and why. And so it was that the daily inspection of his own feces began that led to his life saving discovery, a grand romantic episode, a deeply abiding love for Mozart and an iron clad conviction that had he never swallowed the ring, he would never have realized who was controlling him.

I'm glad you're still here Montag. You have brought some interesting things to the conversation. I might not always agree with your assesment, but one thing I like about this board is the fact that no-one here agrees 100% on anything, and yet everyone gets along and has fascinating conversation. It's all very much unlike the enforced dittohead culture on many other sites whether they be political, cultural, CT, etc.

It is hard to 'draw the line' especially when it comes to CT. Much of what entertained me twenty-odd years ago as some of the dumb-ass stuff my friends told me about has crossed that line some time ago to become something I must take seriously. On the other hand, some of it has been revealed to be conspiro-porn of the worst kind. (...and some of it was just stupid: Y2K, Planet X, Reptilians, really?) Before the internet, it was very hard to prove the veracity of a subject/writer,etc, topics would move around in books passed hand to hand and further research was nearly impossible. All you really had was the 'smell test' to guide you on. This site has been a big help in sorting it all out as well as being educated (and entertained) about other subjects as well.

...I'm glad you like my tits, 82-28. That actually cheered me up a bit, having made a crispy critter of myself about five days back. Please forgive the typos, it's the oxy talking... :eeyaa

Montag wrote:I see Ahab's had his nasty pills today. His kind of stuff, I'm glad we didn't see too much of in the thread... I think it's been a net positive. So I'm going to leave the thread and declare victory/mission accomplished. Though, I think I've kind of learned how naive it is to initiate this sort of thing.

Sorry Montag. To be honest, I have no clear idea of what I was getting at with that attack. Those nasty pills I took were in liquid form - and they were large ones - horse tranquilisers, you could say. I have read the OP again, and I am just about as baffled as everyone else about what I was trying to say, or why I was trying to say it - and why I chose to say it so nastily.

Sounder, it wasn't double-biond ironic sarcasm, sadly. It was me. Plus, obviously, drink.

The fault is purely mine. I'm sorry for ruining your thread, Montag, which was otherwise civillized - it can still be easily revived. I think what bothered me was that I misread it as being one of those times where a person is trying to distance themself from being seen as a "conspiracy theorist", and uses the term as a pejorative against others, like Lawson and Aaronovitch and the rest of the BBC debunkers do, even while they are continually advancing their own theories about conspiracies.

It's like a guy coming out of the mines, having a bath, and then telling everybody he's a middle class white collar worker. It just gets to me.

Since you never said anything even approaching that in your OP, though, the fault is purely mine. Sorry.
