NO DANCIN' IN ANSON: AN AMERICAN STORY OF RACE AND SOCIAL CHANGE
By RICARDO AINSLIEIn 1987, the small farming and ranching community of Anson, Texas,
was in turmoil over the issue of public dancing, which had been
outlawed in the town since the 1930s. The author, a psychologist,
views the Anson dance fight as a symptom of underlying conflicts
erupting in a community that had not come to terms with the dramatic
social and economic changes of the previous two decades. He gives an
insightful look into the lives of those at different edges of the
conflict.
