What happened to Hugh Manatee?

“Hugh Manatee” was a cyber bully, browbeating nonbelievers with his belligerent bombast, flaming even the fans of his fixated fantasies, intruding uninvited into any intercourse interfering with his imagined exclusive omnipotence about any intel agency agenda. His farcical confabulations of facts to fit his theories became fanatical. His arrogance, sarcasm and belittling of all opposing argument was megalomaniacally unhinged. He lost sight of his surroundings, overshadowed by his own humongous hubris, and became lost in the maze of his own asinine word associations.

I have to admit this is how I feel. and it's why I disappeared from this forum for
years, and why I have lost interest is maintaining any presence here. I just can't
bring myself to engage here in any meaningful way. Seeing as how HMW has
some pretty serious followers here, and his presence at RI has left a strong anti-
paranormal/unexplained (derisively known as "woo") sentiment here at RI.
And that was one of the things that originally attracted me to these forums.

The poison pill has been dropped into the RI woo well and HMW is not the one responsible for that

and it is very hard to shed the contaminated 6 degree water without being left asphyxiated by association

My take on HMW's absence is that he just got bored with us.

This was a unique ecosystem for the guy. That and he was banned.

It's possible he's still here, just under a different screen name.

I don't think so, for a number of reasons. Not least of which is that I think he is incapable of disguising his thinking/writing style, nor would he be able to refrain from mentioning kwhijackings as he found them. He was obsessive/compulsive about it.

However, over the years, I've tried steering minds far more intelligent than mine here. I have to say a dose or two of Hugh was enough to have them dismiss this site out of hand. It's a pity because they had a lot of interesting knowledge on many topics that are discussed here.

Indeed, it's a pity they would judge the entire forum on the basis of a few posts from Hugh.

A lot of things are a pity but they're reality.

I never recommended this site to anyone either, because of HMW. He would completely derail thread after thread, ruining most of them. It was ridiculous. He colored this place through and through.

I'm a bit surprised and slightly dismayed by what pearteed and H_C_E have expressed - I hope that you will both take the risk of posting here more often - the - I would love to have more conversations with a RigInt slant on loads of paraculture and non-HMW versions of Psyops -I think it may have been WR who said the most annoying thing about HMW was his domination of the subject of Psyops here.
Because if 'Sunsteinian Nudge theory' and heavy-hitter Skeptics working with semi-provitised Government Psyops consultancies (source of... ) the ISP level filtering of esoteric content in the UK , and it happens on schedule by the end of 2013, UK access to RI may be measured in weeks - worth mentioning...

Yeah, and I think that's why he infuriated me so much, because to me, the most important thing out there is psyops, propaganda, and the domination of the media by the Bad Guys. Yet a discussion about this could never be had here as long as HMW was around to butt his boorish voice into the fray. I think the guy was seriously nuts. To me that was clear. And it was like if you had invited a bunch of highly intelligent and well informed people to a dinner party, but there was this utterly mad homeless person opining and interrupting and shouting everyone else down. It speaks to the extreme levels of tolerance here that he was endured as long as he was.

Hugh introduced me to the parafoveal view here at RI, informing a meditation on the nature of the veil which is still bearing fruit.

If he had been content to organize his thoughts and put them in an RI blog, he would have found the audience he was looking for. IMO.

years. And I recall clearly his butting into threads about John
Keel, UFO's, Skinwalker Ranch etc, etc, and that was the term he used,
and with troubling consistency. "Woo".

Now, if you don't mind showing me who you believe was responsible, and
how, I'm open to seeing it. And while memory is unreliable, I do recall my
experiences of anger and frustration with him for dumping himself on discussions
that didn't genuinely interest him, except other than to further his own agenda.

Yep, like the UK police informers thread which was where I pretty much gave up (uh huh Hugh, you're an expert) . But really why do that? And why go on and on about it on an obscure internet forum that nobody has ever heard of?

I consider HMW akin to the Church of the Subgenius: something of a performance piece, simultaneously mocking and educating their audience of paranoid conspiracy theorists.

I have enjoyed and appreciated the perspective gained from both, but don't take the information provided literally. Keyword hijacks like "chew tobacco, rookie" and HMW's well-known refusal to get systematic or engage on details, I think, make it pretty clear that he wasn't completely for real. I think his author grew tired of the schtick and moved on. Despite HMW's inexcusable abrasiveness, I'd still like to see more from his creator--whether serious or parody...

Maybe Elfis could track him down for his show...? The mods must have an email address. He'd have to call in from a payphone, of course.

It is in the nature of disinformation to spin things at a limiting level of information processing, that still contains a fair bit of plausibility, and so may stand in as some form of 'truth telling'.

Sure the CIA has influence in Hollywood, and so do others who's scripting intentions also deserve attention.

So for me, Hugh's agenda was more about disparaging the potential of consciousness while promoting a form of Pavlovian behaviorism.

It may be that 'Hugh' does not appear to have presence elsewhere on the web because he was a special custom made shill.

Troll and bully, sure. Crazy, maybe... If we're going bare knuckle, my gut feeling is that he was a friend/colleague of Jeff's from the Frank magazine days. Hugh is somehow bound up with RI, that much seems all but certain. He even identified as anti-fascist. He was the mascot for this bizarre place.

If he was a shill, he was the funnest shill ever.
